Build Your Own USA

I get the sentimental thing. But I urge you to try some different vacation spots in SC. Once you do, you'll not go back to Myrtle.
I've tried other spots, they just aren't as fun to me. There's much more that I like to do at Myrtle Beach compared to the other spots. The House of Blues alone makes it hard to beat.

That would be my guess. Although now that I have kids and as I get older I'm sure my ideas of a vacation will evolve.

I agree. Back in the hookers and blow days, Myrtle Beach was ok. But what I want for vacation now is to go to a beach where when I put my shit down on the sand, I have 100 yards between me and the next person.

OUT (in alphabetical order):

1. Connecticut - @Hark_The_Sound_2010 already nailed this one. It's the worst of the northeast all jammed into one unsightly package.
2. Mississippi - Dragging down the rest of the nation in education, healthcare, poverty, etc.
3. Missouri - Famous for absolutely nothing, unless you're really into meth.
4. Nevada - The only notable thing about Nevada is Las Vegas, and I hate Las Vegas.
5. Oklahoma - Possibly the ugliest, most worthless state in the union and hundreds of miles from anything worth a damn.

IN (in alphabetical order):

1. California - Arguably the most geographically diverse state in the nation with tons of awesome cities big and small.
2. Colorado - One of my favorite states. Tons to do outdoors and in, plus residents that range from cowboys to damn dirty hippies.
3. Hawaii - Unsurpassed natural beauty on a tropical island, duh.
4. North Carolina - From the mountains to the beaches, it offers a little bit of everything. So does Virginia, but I gotta go with my home state here.
5. Wisconsin - My sleeper pick. Wisconsinites are very laid back and come-as-you-are. The state has its own special beauty including lots of forest and wildlife areas plus two Great Lakes. Also, surprisingly good eats especially if you love meats and cheeses.

Excuse me I called Conn first.

Yeah, in my teens/early 20's, MB was aight. But we made the mistake of taking vacation there one year when our kids were young, and every damn beach photo we took has about 3 other families in the shot. You can hardly even crop those fat sons-a-bitches out of the photos. That beach is too small and too damn crowded.

My wife said San Antonio is overrated. She said the whole Alamo thing is a massive disappointment
It is definitely not what I expected; just right in the middle of downtown. Turn around behind you and there's a burger king, etc. across the street. (at least there was when I was there about 15 years ago).

I love the morons who bitch about states like California when it provides more tax revenue than it receives from the federal government.

And the conservative southern states are more reliant on federal aid than the liberal ones by far. States like California are propping up states like Mississippi, Louisiana, Georgia, and even Texas. Good thing we have California to help pick up the tab for those mooching conservatives.

Oh...

In: California, Colorado, Oregon, Hawaii, North Carolina

Out: Ohio, West Virginia, Mississippi, Alabama, Arkansas

It is at this point that I'd like to remind everyone New Hampshire has roadside signs advertising the opportunity to buy lottery tickets and liquor (open Sundays).

Please explain.
Vermont = Any state that elects Bernie Sanders and supports child molestors needs to go
New Jersey = Same reasons others have posted
Minnesota = I lived there for 2 years. Cold as shit. Most of my neighbors were Canadians They elected nutbag Jessie Ventura.
Nevada = It is a desert dust bowl. If not for Las Vegas, not much there.
Washington = It too is full of Canadians. Rains all the time.

Give the others later

I only asked about Vermont and Washington. Nothing you said about Washington is accurate, btw.

They also have roadside signs to buy fireworks there. NH doesn't have sales tax (they compensate for it with relatively high property taxes), so MA loses a lot of tax revenue when people go across the border to buy things, most notably alcohol.

I knew a guy that ran a small town MA bowling alley, which had a bar in it. He would make runs to NH to fill up his pickup truck with cheaper booze from NH, then sell it in his bowling alley bar in MA (definitely not legal to do that, but this was the least of his law-bending practices), which saved him probably between $5-$10 per bottle that he bought.

I had forgotten there were states that didn't allow selling alcohol on Sundays. What a stupid rule that is.

Our property taxes here are ridiculously high but we have no food tax. I wish they would put a small tax(2-3%) on food and lower the property tax so everyone had skin in the game. I will never be able to buy a new vehicle here. When you buy you go to courthouse and pay 6.5% tax on the purchase plus road use fees. Then you are taxed thru the nose every year on that vehicle. Just paid $322 for tags on the wife's 2013 van! Was $400 last year.

Ya, Taxachussetts hits you pretty good on those taxes as well. I think I'd save a good amount of money if I lived in NH instead, but my salary would be adjusted accordingly at a job in NH, so it'd end up being a net even I imagine.

The real key is to work remotely for a company in a major market. That way you get the big city salary, but can live somewhere with a lower cost of living.

Oregon is the other state that doesn't have sales tax, so bordering states have the same issue with residents heading there to buy stuff. When I lived in Oregon years ago, I remember going to Target in Portland -- right across the border from Washington -- and being asked for ID by the cashier. She needed to know whether to charge me sales tax. What a pain.

Years later, after I moved to Tacoma, Washington, I would still make the drive to Oregon for large ticket purchases. I bought a kayak in Eugene that saved me a lot of moolah. It was far enough "inland" that they never questioned my residency.

My family health insurance is free here compared to $750/month in NC 9 years ago. We still own a small lot in NC, I'm trying to figure out if I can buy a truck in NC and register it there to by-pass the tax enima Nebraska hands out.

Gotta be honest. I'm LOLing at everyone using politics as a criteria for inclusion/exclusion. Y'all do you, though.

You took D.C. out of the running in the OP, or that would have been on my "out" list. I feel like mine were politically even. I ousted some redneck and some snowflake states, and kept some redneck and snowflake states.

I wasn't even trying to get political. Went to California this summer and hated it, same with Utah. Too many people in NY for me.

OUT:
Kentucky - Gentlemen, we can eradicate widespread inbreeding once and for all.
Texas - Just a big, hot, stinkhole.
Mississippi - We can finally end their suffering and they don't even need to thank us.
Nebraska - Blow the cornhuskers to smithereens and please take out nctransplant in the process.
Kentucky - Again, for good measure.

REMAIN:
North Carolina - Greatest state in the union.
Oregon - One of the most beautiful states and it isn't properly recognized as such.
California - So much to hate but so, so, so much to love.
Virginia - North Carolina's fraternal twin.
Hawaii - North Shore
