Hear me out...I know his desire to go pro...but what if the feedback from the scouts is..still needs another year, could use more experience etc....move him to PG. Why you ask??..I submit the following comparison to EC this year.
Size difference is obvious..he attacks the hoop with a ferocity that no one else did...and finishes really strong.
He had a better ft % 73 to 67 for EC...he had the best 3 pt % for the back court...shooting 41%from 3 compared to31% for EC. His ballhandling was NYC tough..has a wicked crossover juke and stepback that's lethal.
The one obvious stat that EC led was assists...but Jack was never asked to do it nor was he in a position as a wing to do it.

Look I knowing this is a Longshot..but frankly I feel he could be a very good pg with the right mindset and change of position...coupled with good coaching from Marcus...I know many disagree with that last sentence..but Marcus did know how to play the position

One other thing...he would be much better on defense. Ec was frankly a nightmare as teams posted him up and when we switched the mismatches with bigger opponents was glaring

He would have the ball in his hands every play..to attack ,draw many more fouls than EC ever did and dish it off without nearly as many blocked shots EC had. Disagree completely on the d issue watch the tapes and tell me who you would rather have playing d on say that pg from dook... Jack would be my choice every time

I lost count of how many times EC picked up 2 fouls In the first 10 minutes of a game and sat on the. Bench while RJ ran the team.

I really just watch the games as I have done since 1972. For those who claim EC is 10x the defender or Ian is a very poor defender...let's look at the season ending numbers for. BOTH shall we....

IJ played a total of 805 minutes this year....he had 19 steals 7 blocks and got 77 defensive rebounds...he committed 51 personal fouls

EC played a total of 919 minutes(a total of almost 3 full games more than Ian) he had 32 steal ..a difference of 13 steals in almost 3 full games played...he had 1 more. BLOCK...8....and had 83 defensive rebounds ..6 more than Ian in almost 3 full games played...oh yeah EC led the entire team with 91 fouls...the next closest was JWash who had 71 fouls

He was a real liability on defense ....his size hurts him badly on that side of the ball...he was posted up all the time got into the most foul trouble on the team and sat on the bench for huge stretches of games.

The. Numbers tell the story

Neither of the two are winning any awards for their defensive efforts but your comparisons of ECs and IJs numbers in an attempt to paint some glaring dichotomy or to make some profound revelation are (from a strictly academic statistical perspective) not doing you any favors.

To further my admittedly tongue in cheek point, If you were called as witness to testify on your participant's behalf (In this case IJ) and brought this evidence into the courtroom as your sole platform you'd be held in contempt, fired, disbarred then brought up on charges yourself.

This was hardly an attempt to do anything other than refute the notion made by several posters that Ian was far inferior the defender compared to EC... the numbers I stated reflected that both were about equal in most categories...with EC as pointed out leading the team in fouls committed..by a large margin. Please don't condescend to me.you really have no idea who you are trying to put down. I have been involved in financial transactions at a very high level and was brought to arbitration in one instance over 35 years of practice. A CASE btw that I won unanimously .But if I need your help I'll give you a call

.a difference of 13 steals in almost 3 full games played
At Ian's rate for steals of 1.0 per 40 minutes it would take him 13 games just to catch up with EC's 27.5 minute games. Using blocks by a point guard to compare defensive skills may be the most useless stat ever. 100% irrelevant. # of fouls is also questionable. One could argue, and I would be one of them, that you can't foul when you're so far from your assignment that you can't reach him. Defensive rebounds...at Ian's rate of 4.5 rebound every 40 minutes of playing time, he would actually exceed EC's total by .3 rebounds per 40 minutes. And don't forget, EC is the point guard, typically the shortest player on the team, and the only player that should not be responsible for going after rebounds and blocked shots. You did a fine job of using numbers to prove that EC was a much better defensive player than Ian.

Look I am weary of this ridiculous kerfuffle...You want EC as a pg at Carolina..think he is special.... great. Here is the reality...he is a pass first pg with a wildly inconsistent outside shot, who led the team in total fouls..most on reaching after he got beaten by a player gliding by him...who is an average ft shooter at best and who lacks size and strength to compete against bigger stronger pgs. I look forward to our next pg whomever that may be...to bring back the true pg role of being a distributor , reliable and consistent outside scorer, tough as nails defender and leader.

EC fell far short of those roles except for his assist prowess.

Is this the same Captain Jack who will get you high tonight and take you to your special island?

I would love to have Cap stay and would even like it if he decides he wants to play point. He is an exemplary natural 2G and I think his handle is a little too loose for point while his instincts would need a complete overhaul. If he wanted to dedicate himself this Summer to learning the position and increasing his Defensive IQ-I'm totally down! I think he is gone and I think he will be a pretty good Pro at 2-BUT I also think he could be a + defender who could do short stints at point with work!

Cadeau is a better individual defender at his position than Jackson is. The problem is if Cadeau gets caught in a switch, then he'll be at a disadvantage because of his height.

Cadeau's overall size limits him in a lot of areas. And his offensive footwork isn't good enough to counter for being a small player. That's why when Cadeau drives, he basically has to go all the way to the basket so we saw him play out of control or overdrive quite a bit. RJ for instance is about the same height, but he has enough footwork where we can stop maybe 7 feet away from the basket, but his foot in the ground and have good enough footwork to do a half spin turnaround jumper.

Cadeau doesn't have that footwork right now. He will have to develop it in order to score over bigger players.

But purely in terms of defense.... It depends on what you value as a defender. It leads me to think Hubert will want to switch more next season. So having a PG that's more 6'3" ish, or bulkier and harder to move may fit that more. Cadeau is individually an above average defender IMO. The issue is you can very easily gameplan against players like him to get into a matchup advantage on the court.

I really think Ian Jackson is a very poor defensive player right now. I don't really care about takeaway stats. A lot of those might be someone else deflecting a pass and it just landing in your area. Defense is harder to quantify on the stat sheet. But I'm pretty sure the lineup data was not favorable defensively when Jackson was on the floor.

I thought Seth and Cadeau were the 2 most consistent defenders on the team. But that's also a reason why UNC was a very poor defensive team throughout the season.
