Cards must vacate 2013 championship

look, I'll say this. I think Pitino is an absolute scum bag POS, bottom line and I think under his watch, they did some really shady stuff and should have been punished for it. But again, the NCAA picks and chooses when to turn a blind eye (see Lance Thomas at Duke, see never ending SEC football scandal year over year, etc).

You can't give it to Michigan because if you eliminate Louisville then every team they beat can say "we would have beat (the next team)." They beat Oregon in the Sweet 16, Duke in the Elite Eight and Wichita State in the Final Four. Wichita State's coach has said half-jokingly that the Shockers should play Michigan for the national title now.

Wichita State had Louisville beat that year. Louisville got two threes from some guy off the end of the bench or they would have choked that game away.

1. It's pretty dumb to say it should go to Michigan by default. It shouldn't.

2. We are probably not Louisville's favorite school today. A lot of their fans are pretty pissed that their title is now vacated while we get to keep ours (you can't blame them for being pissed at how both our situations turned out, to be honest).

No clue what you're on about. I've also never read a Dan Kane article in my life. True story.

My poast isn't hard to understand. The Louisville and UNC situations were different, and were ultimately adjudicated accordingly. But if someone can't understand why Louisville fans would be hard-done by, then that person lacks basic empathy.

Someone touched in a previous post but I didn't see an answer...

If UL beat UNC (or any other school), then later had that win vacated, does the "L" come off our record? Does that "L" become a "W" or is the entire game just wiped off the slate?

Does anyone know?

Nothing happens for the other teams. All our losses to Louisville during the affected period still count as losses.

So every team that ever got punished by ncaa gets to be upset because others schools didn't. Great logic there!

To me the difference between our situation and that of Louisville is totally different and it is in that total difference that they were addressed differently. Simply put the NCAA had no, zero, nip, nada authority over our situation because it was clear to anyone willing to find the facts as well as in the end to the NCAA that what happened with us just was not within the NCAA scope of authority. But the Louisville issue, well that was directly target bulls eye within what the NCAA's prime directive of proper recruiting and programs only being able to use eligible players. Improper inducements to attract recruits, exactly what Louisville was caught doing is the very reason for the NCAA's existence and deserves the most harsh punishment, especially considering that directly following being found guilty of providing UNDER AGE recruits prostitutes, the FBI investigation nails them even before their appeal of the original punishment was able to be handed down or appealed?

So no, it takes neither empathy or sympathy or the lack of to understand this, it takes just understanding the facts and the reasons behind them.

The Cards n Pitino are still Champs in my eyes.

Trivia question for $1000. Who won the 2013 Men’s Basketball National Championship?

The University of Louisville.

The proper answer to that question is NO ONE, there is no national champion for that season...

Vacating wins and forcing people to haul down banners of some of the stupidest stuff I've ever heard. It's such a hollow, token gesture that is meaningless . We all know who won. If I were Louisville I would tell him to shove it and keep the banners hanging.

I watched Louisville beat Michigan. Hookers be damned. Louisville is the 2013 National Champs. Period.

Not according to the official RECORD BOOKS. hey man, not trying to be an arse, just really, is what it is. Now personally, I do think they should have harsh punished but not sure stripping titles was best but hard to argue because they used ineligible players.

Now I do think ALL coaches on that staff should be hit with a show cause and not allowed to coach for an extended period, similar to kelvin Sampson. EVERY coach on that staff knew what was going on, that kind of stuff is not a thing that any member of that coaching staff could not have known about.

U of L 2013 National Champs. I’m sorry that bothers you. Hookers didn’t make their shots go in or their defense play harder. If anything it helped them relax and that, of course, can’t ever be proved. What can be proved? Louisville beat Michigan in April of 2013.

I cannot explain it any clearer than I did. Sorry.

Exactly! Just like Reggie Bush's mom having a nice house didn't help Reggie Bush dominate on the field and win the Heisman. I still SMH that they took it away from him.

AS it turns out it was no more than a glorified exhibition game that did NOT determine a winner, sorry that bothers ya but it is fact at this point, it is fact, 20yrs from now, someone reading the official record book will not see Louisville as the champs.

So Pitino has a title taken away and Calipari has a couple of FF vacated. Both coached at kaintuck.

Of course they did.

Serious question! Was Calipari cleared for both of those by the NCAA or no? I ask because I see UK fans on other boards saying he was cleared but I never saw anything saying he had been.

So y'all are okay with a team cheating to get recruits to sign and then winning a NC with those players that maybe would have gone elsewhere if not for the team cheating to get them? We shouldn't hear anything else about Magette, Lance Thomas, Capel, or WWW from a lot of posters on here.

Eh, I don't think getting a blow job from an ugly hooker is the same as the others you mentioned. That being said no one is saying that they are ok with what they did, just that the punishment doesn't fit the crime.

So there are different degrees of cheating, some are okay and others are not?? Okay...whatever.
