Carolina at Notre Dame game thread—Saturday 4 January 2025

We were very fortunate TV Teddy was not a ref in this game, 100 times out of 100 TV Teddy would have nailed Cadeau on that last drive by Burton.
Yeah, except that this time he would have been correct.

Don't get me wrong, I'll definitely take the win. But this should have been a loss or gone to OT.

I live about 20 minutes from Notre Dame's campus and went to the game.

Observations:

Ian Jackson and Burton were the best two players on the floor.

UNC looks no better than a bubble or NIT team (a healthy Tremble maybe changes things).

Burton got to the rim at will against Cadeau (and anyone else). 10 free throws in 23 minutes.

Just got back from the game. We stole that one. Last defense was horrible, everyone knew Burton would get it and he had been punking EC straight to the basket, yet gave him exactly that. Very, very fortunate, but hugely needed win.

The donors pick and choose who they support. They starved Mack's NIL to help him fail. They are doing the same to Hubert.
I don't blame them, they don't like the hire and/or the product produced by said coach they can choose not to spend their money. Thats a Hubert/Roy/who ever wouldn't man up and hire the best guy for the job problem.

If they were letting them play, they wouldn't have given EC a trip to the line for flopping after his trey.
It really didn't look like a flop. A player needs adequate non-contact space to properly balance oneself after landing on any jump. I think it would've been a good no call, but the defender jumped into EC's landing space and as such was at the mercy of the ref. Nor did EC intentionally jump forward to try to draw the foul.

That was an easy call, clearly into the landing zone. Horrible play by ND defense. They had a foul to give as well, eschewed that, then close out out of control on the shot. Mind boggling!

Technically a foul, true, so legit to call it. But EC obviously did flop. We used to point that out when Duke did it. So anyway, if you are calling that then you have to call EC's obvious foul on the final play, too. That's what I'm saying. Call neither or call both.

RJ in single digits for the first time this season.

As a freshman, RJ scored in single digits in 14 of 29 games.
As a sophomore, RJ scored in single digits in 10 of 39 games.
As a junior, RJ scored in single digits in 4 of 33 games.
As a senior, RJ scored in single digits in 2 of 37 games.

Cadeau won the game for us.

I was waiting for the refs to put ND at the line.
No you are wrong again…Ian Jackson won this game…
No offense, and I understand your point, but both observations are correct depending on the scope being discussed. The scope DC focused on encompassed the final offensive and defensive possession, in which EC hit a very clutch 3ptr, a clutch tie-breaking FT, and then was aggressive defensively (again) and got a clutch defensive stop (any foul argument aside, one wasn't called).

Which he could have but chose not to…you have no clue
The man is a terrible coach and an even worse at talent advisor the day he is fired will be a monumental day in Carolina basketball history, and down the road the hire will be looked at as the biggest fumble in our history.

I disagree on the "flop" as you call it. It is knowing the game and showing he is in my space to land, call it. Smart. They should of called the foul on the last play, maybe if Burton showed the affect of the contact he gets the call.

I don't think he was aggressive at all on dee, back peddled all the way to the rim and really fouled, glad no call. No way he should of been on the guy who physically punked him to the rim all game in the first place though. That was a clear Drake assignment with the time left, maybe Elliot stay at home with Shrewberry for the trailer look. Awful final 4.5 dee strategy.

I admit I didn’t watch the game yesterday I had to watch paint dry (joke for those who are sarcastically challenged). But up until Elliott hit the prayer of a four point play we had one double figure scorer just wow!! Will go back and watch later.

What coach would want to come to a program with a crappy NIL that can't buy a starting frontcourt, and a fan base that wants to fire you after you win the ACC and ACC coach of the year?

Unless the NIL drastically changes, this is what UNC basketball will look like for the rest of your life.
We are Nebraska football like.
