Carolina at Virginia game thread——Tuesday 10 January 2023

This is absolutely ridiculous. There is no way on gods green earth that we should ever lose to Virginia eight times in a row I don’t care where we play them.

Just completely ridiculous how ineffective this team is at crunch time. I am sick of wasting time watching this train wreck. Can’t wait to hear what Hubert has to say about this one.

Gonna be interesting to see if this team even makes the tourney. Love is just bad. Team clearly trash without Armando. If he’s out awhile . Hello NIT

These guys will always have that run in March, but our backcourt isn’t going to let us get back there. No games where they both play well and too many games where neither of them do.

He’s the highest percentage shooter on the team, so no a three with no one within 10 feet to make it a 1-point game is not what they wanted

if you don’t think teams are willing to give Leaky open looks because of their willingness to take away a lane or a strength of other players on our roster then you clearly have no clue

BECAUSE HES WIDE OPEN EVERY TIME HE SHOOTS IT. RJ would be shooting 60% from 3 if he always had that much space lmao its basically a free throw. Why is this so hard to understand?

Without Nance or Mando rough. I know people get on Caleb needing to sit more, the game got away when Hubert took him out. Maybe just a coincidence, but that's what happened.

Do we get less points when it goes in? It was the best look from 3 of the entire game. Great shots don’t go in sometimes.

Hopefully we can win the ACC tournament to get into tournament. Otherwise not looking good. Maybe Hubert will actually recruit guys who can score and not just labeled as scorers. And maybe actual play defensive when labeled as defensive stoppers. Seems like we have been getting fooled by high school highlight reels and get owned by non 5 star players who actually play sound basketball

i have full confidence Hubert will
right the ship because of his head coaching experience, how nice he is, and how much the kids enjoy getting to wear black shoes and unlimited green lights inside half court.

Got schooled by non 5* players tonight because I’m sure they aren’t loaded with 5* talent just fundamentally sound guys with determination

We are well on the right side of the bubble right now. Lose a couple more games like to pitt and we might be in trouble.

Lots of overreaction on this board, understandable after road losses in the ACC, but sheesh we have some fair weather fans. It’s the same with every fanbase. We lost at UVA, a game most of us were expecting we’d lose anyway, but we were down 2 starters & still hung in until the end. We’re developing a bench, Washington had a little coming out party, & the schedule is much more manageable moving forward. I think we’re fine, & the NiT talk is stupid. We’ll see I guess.

No offence but Once again I never expect to lose even after bacot went down. Next man up. If you play at UNC then you should be worth the scholarship and have the talent to be ready when it’s your time.

Developing a bench 6 games into the conference schedule, do you not see any issues with that? That's what you do with the first games against directional schools!

He should have been developing this for weeks before now, it's a shame we have to have our best post player go down to see that there is a guy on the bench that can play.

I don't see panic of missing the tournament but there are certainly lots of red flags, for a team that his this much talent.

We make nothing easy, mater of fact we make it as hard as possible by having line ups that make no sense. I'm no coach and have never claimed to be one but it pretty obvious!

We also aren't loaded with 5 star talent. We have two 5 stars, Love and Bacot. One of them was hurt and one hasn't played like a 5 star this year so far. We were also out our only other capable big.... I'm not sure what people expected. I was pretty encouraged to see Washington's offense.

The team needs more talented (or better) players to be consistently championship caliber. Our forwards have been pretty sub-par. Nance hasn't been all that impactful at either end. Leaky's a fan favorite but he doesn't bring enough offense to be a super positive player. Puff hasn't shown much and the other guys don't even play, which tells you they probably look even worse in practice.

At guard, we'll hopefully get some reinforcements next year. I don't have a ton of confidence in anyone other than RJ at the moment. Dunn looks pretty overwhelmed on defense, while Seth doesn't have much to offer in halfcourt offense.

Assuming Bacot is back next year, I still think we're a forward away from being a really good team. Hopefully we can get someone in the portal, because I don't see that impact guy on the roster or in recruiting.

We were a couple of bad minutes against Kansas from being National champions last year and we have all but one player back and much more depth (if he would use it) all be it that the one player we are missing was a huge piece we are much better this year than we have shown! Not as good as last year but not play anywhere close to our abilities!

I didn't expect UNC to win this game even if Armando HAD played! lol

Losing to UVA in VA is hardly a shock

Tony Bennett doesn't need 5* players to win. Bennett has developed a system and he knows how to find the right players for it. He's going to be a formidable presence in the ACC for a long time. He's been formidable almost since he got there. He's won a national title and his teams have been in the top of the ACC since he became their coach.

Thanks for the sanity but maybe won't translate with this crowd.

The one criticism I'd go along with has to deal with Love. Good player but not so much a great player, and everyone needs to know their limitations and what they can pull off and what they perhaps cannot.

Manek was a gigantic part of that team's success in March. The whole chemistry of those 5 was unique.

RJ and Armando are the only consistent offensive players on the team, now. Love is spotty at best. When he's really on, the team has a huge advantage, but you never know when he'll be on. He's not reliable. Manek was ALWAYS reliable. This team has no really deadly shooter... none. So, without Armando, the likelihood of a W is almost zero.

I was frankly amazed that UNC maintained a lead for the time they did have one. When Mando went out, I was like "This is over." It ultimately came true. But, they played better than I ever expected them to play after his exit.
