Carolina vs Duke game thread on Friday 14 March 2025

serious post, carolina being down by 20 is an absolute embarrassment, down flagg/insert player or not…this is not 2002 or whatever year that was, but even then, ffs.

to have a shot to a win a game because of that and to close out in that manner, where are we?…im embarrassed.

It is embarrassing.. I just tell myself Dook has I think 10 burger boys & Unc has 4.. recruiting has been a struggle for years now & Talent & size win

Are the Tar Heels a football school now? Read an article saying that the money will be spent on football and no more basketball banners will be hung from the rafters. I have faith in Jim Tanner, to hit the portal hard and bring glory back to UNC basketball.

Football schools create basketball schools in this day and age. Sucks but if the football team becomes a powerhouse we will be swimming in money. See Auburn, Bama, Florida, etc

Everything is in the hands of our new front office. If we have sufficient NIL funds and they get good portal players, we can be back on top next season. The key is to build a balanced team.

Last night we saw how good Cadeau could be. He was attacking the basket, hitting 3s, and he spoon fed Lubin about 20 points. Keeping him should be the priority (especially since all signs point to Caleb Wilson decommitting if Cadeau transfers.)

Good players want to play with a pass first point guard. It will be much easier to build next year's team if Cadeau is in the fold. And if he can create that many points for an undersized center with bad hands (Lubin,) imagine what he could do with a legitimate tall starting center from the portal.

I admit I’m more a pessimist about this team and where the program is out.

If this were a typical UNC team and Duke was missing its best player who happened to be the best or second best player in the country, we here would all expect a win and some would expect a convincing one.

I think if this becomes a moral victory season, then it tells you all you need to know about this season’s expectations.

Again, I’m a bit more pessimistic about this group but I was more disappointed that they got clowned for 20 minutes than I was happy about the comeback. Good for them for giving themselves a chance to win. But that’s how I see it.

RJ was almost the hero.

With 4+ seconds left, Lubin was fouled (and missed both shots). RJ tipped in Lubin's miss. If the refs hadn't called that foul, RJ's tip counts, and we would have been up by 1 with 4 seconds left.

If your aunt had balls she’d be your uncle. Almost counts in horseshoes

If we dont make the tourney, Withers singlehandedly ended both of his years with the dumbest moves he could make. Last year, a stupid 3 point shot for zero reason when we were up by 1 then fouls a bama player on a layup. Low basketball IQ.

If Powell and Ian try to go pro hope they like learning a new eastern European language every year as they aren't even close to even G League level.
You may be right, but I think a year in the G League would ready them for NBA play. If not, they'll still be making good money playing a game.

I just posted this in another thread, but I don't think the G-League money is as good as people think, especially with NIL running rampant. Harrison Ingram could have easily made $1 to $2 million at Carolina last year as the face of our program. Instead, he is making $578,577 a year in the g League.

I would recommend staying in school and soaking in that NIL money while you work on your game.

I doubt we'd be worrying about making the NCAAT if Ingram had returned.

It would be interesting to know if we wouldn't pony up more money . . . or if Harrison was so eager to go that money wasn't the issue.

It's also possible that he looked at our roster and figured he wouldn't improve his NBA odds by delaying.

I'm not sure if I understand this argument about the G-League. If a player gets drafted and plays in the G-League, he's still making the money he signed for when drafted. Reed Sheppard was the #3 pick in the draft and spent time in the G-League, but he was making millions while playing there.

I'm not saying Ingram is making millions but to say that playing in the G-League as a draft pick making millions is going to get kids to stay in college, that is going to fall on deaf ears. Guys like Ian will get draft in the first round, I don't think he's staying in college for one year of NIL when a first round draft pick will get a multi year contract.

I notice what HI was being paid ($578k) and assumed it was in the standard range for a 2nd round pick (which is where I assume Ian would go). Looking further i saw the dude draft immediately before Harrison sign for North of $4M! Not sure why such a discrepancy?

My only point was that if you are going to make a Harrison Ingram kind of money in the g League, you might as well stay in college and make more. It looks like he might be an anomaly.
