They don't have the horses right now, which isn't shocking as it's just year 2 under the new regime. Scheme is also important if you don't have the horses, gotta be creative. Having Gemmel matching up with WR's is....not good.

I get it and want to be patient w them. Run d has been pretty bad too and that is probably more disappointing. That and the bar being so low with our potent offense. The other thing is the magical improvements after halftime - if we can come up with that today it is probably enough to win

Jesse Palmer said of that Wake TD pass that Hollings was kind of out of position.

That's an understatement. And it says a great deal about the DBs the entire game: they are out of position over and over and over. On top of which they keep taking bad angles, which means they miss tackles or pass break ups they could have made.

DBs do not work on fundamentals with position players, and that is the great problem on D. These guys lacks fundamentals. A new DC cannot change that. Mack can by getting new position coaches who can teach fundamentally sound play.

Run defense is hampered by LBs expected to do do too much to stop passing games.

Surratt looks nothing like he did last year. Part of that is due to a DL that has seen only 1 player progress since last year (Vohasek - and his ceiling is not as a dominator). Another part is OCs scheme to block Surratt. Another is that the LBs are doing a lot to try to stop pass completions.
