Coaching changes

It appears that Fuente will not take the Baylor job. Hiring a new coach this late is a killer. Baylor may even feel compelled to promote that great TX HS coach that Rhule hired as soon as he took the job.

Anybody else surprised that Fuente would turn down the Baylor gig? It just seems to be a better place to coach football, coaching in the Big 12, which only has 10 teams BTW.

It's an easier path to a championship in the coastal. Plus he wouldn't have to play second fiddle to Texas.

Looks like Baylor will hire the LSU DC.
Aranda is an excellent DC. His weakness as HC, other than inexperience, will be that he is uncomfortable being the center of attention. He is the opposite of Orgeron in that category which is extremely important in college coaching. So he needs assistants, especially coordinators, who are naturals with the fans and with other coaches. If he puts together the right staff, he can win at Baylor - just like Rhule and Briles.

LSU losing their DC and whatever Brady did (qb coach I think not sure if more)
I think Brady's title was passing game coordinator. But losing those two and Burrow will definitely have an impact. It's hard enough to repeat as champs, but everyone is plucking away at their coaches after a successful season like they just had.

Though Fuente decided to stay at VT, whatever problems have reared up the past year there are not likely to go away. Michael Vick, well-known VT canine handler, tweeted that if Fuente were to leave, the next VT HC should be Shane Beamer.

When the program's most celebrated player (and that says a lot of bad about both VT fans and media, because Bruce Smith ought to hold that honor) asserts publicly that the son of the program's legendary coach should have his father's old job, a growing number of boosters will listen.

Fuente may regret not taking the Baylor job if the fire that Vick tried to light is not extinguished before the 2020 season.

Baylor is saying they didn't offer him the job. They are saying he came to them, but they didn't offer.

The Nebraska offense has been erratic, at times seeming on the cusp of a breakout, only to revert to high mediocrity while showing signs of being a dud. Frost has sent OC Troy Walters packing and hired Matt Lubick, the son of Sonny Lubick, who was Miami DC under Erickson and then the best HC in Colorado St history. Matt was WR coach at Dook (and won some kind of award for Dook having a bunch of overachieving WRs), and most recently has been co-OC at Oregon and then Washington.

Mel Tucker is the new Spartans HC.

Tucker has spent most of his coaching career in the NFL. But he was a grad assistant at Mich St and DB coach at Ohio St. He has just 1 year as HC: a 5-7 record at Colorado. He had a 2-3 record as Interim HC of the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Does he anybody think he has any shot at putting a scare into Michigan and Penn St?

Bama OC Steve Sarkisian has pulled his name out of the Colorado search. Whether that is due to Colorado not wanting him or him wanting the raise at Bama and a shot next year at a better job, only the actors and their agents know for sure.

UGA hired Strength coach Maurice Sims from us last month. He'd been w Hess for three yrs...
