Are you suggesting that the Chinese government's obfuscation and delayed response DIDN'T worsen this crisis?
So I won't jump on you like others for this metaphor cuz I get what you're trying to say.
That said, the fact remains that this virus originated from Chinese people doing some barbaric shit and speculation that their government tried to cover up its seriousness isn't exactly out of character for them.
Comparing our mistrust of the Chinese government to the outright lies by antisemitic dictators and their propaganda machines just isn't accurate.
I thought Florida was closing them starting Monday, but obviously not soon enough for those idiots.
The mayor of Miami-Dade County issued an order yesterday at 5 pm. Unfortunately, it wasn't until after those dipshits had probably already infected half of south Florida.
ETA: Beg your pardon. The statement was yesterday but it looks like it doesn't go into effect until today.

I look into the future - and weep / grieve for the next generation (including my 15, 18, 20 year olds) ...the normal, average or above average intelligence kids - who have to deal with (support) these morons. I hope and assume this is a small slice of kids - the dumbest among us - and not representative of an entire generation...
and maybe natural selection can put in overtime within this group stupid enough to proceed with irresponsible "get my drunk on" during a pandemic

My daughter said her and some friends were planning a virtual wine party on Skype. Sounds like at least some 20- somethings are being reasonable.
Yeah, I don't think this is a generational thing. We all did stupid stuff when we were younger. I probably wouldn't have been as thoughtless as those kids, but I certainly knew people like that who were my age.
I read an interesting article today. It talked about how, during World War I, American soldiers were under strict quarantine to avoid getting the flu. People being people, they got lax and got sick anyway. The point was this. If we can't expect soldiers in wartime to exercise the discipline needed to avoid spreading a virus, we sure as heck can't expect regular Americans to do so in a time of peace.
What we have to count on is that there are enough sensible people out there taking the proper measures to avoid spreading the virus too quickly. It's the whole "flatten the curve" mantra. People are going to get sick but hopefully not all at the same time.

There is plenty of factual information from basically every reputable news source in US, and many Chinese citizens - the the coverup of the virus and the harsh punishment of people speaking out - is not speculation at all but is absolute fact. The Chinese govt and corporations (one and the same) are the criminals here.... none of the Chinese citizens at all...I don't know of anyone blaming any Chinese citizen in US or in China or any other country
Yes, our contempt should be directed at the Chinese government. The problem is that there are those among us who can't make this distinction. I read an unfortunate incident about a Chinese-American woman who went to take out her trash yesterday and was confronted and berated by a stranger simply for being Chinese.

Can’t help but note the irony of how Fox News fans who’ve been calling out the “media hype” of other networks and saying its no worse than the flu and it’s a dem conspiracy to go after trump and yadda yadda, just like Fox News talking heads were claiming, are suddenly on board with the seriousness of the situation now that Fox News has changed its tune. Yea we see who’s manipulated by the media.
I would have absolutely been as thoughtless as those kids. At 21 years old, I cared about nothing except myself, partying and the next girl I was trying to get with. People complain about getting older. I thank God. I did. The 45 year old me would want to punch the 21 year old me in the face.
Yeah, same. I'm not going to sit here and act like I was some profound, socially conscious, selfless person at 21 years old. I was just as you described you were.
So while I cringe at videos like that, I'm more just happy that I'm old enough that videos of my thoughts at 21 years old are not on the internet.
Of course, I was the same way at that age, but I had a couple of close friends that were as straight, and dependable as they come. I just need to know the parenting secret to get kids that always make the right decisions.

I have a close friend who is convinced this is a govt/elite conspiracy operation to "take away more of our liberties." I love the guy to death, but he sends me You Tube videos of these rustics who are asking "Does anyone really know someone who HAS this thing? I can't find one anywhere!" And, some code name for the conspiracy operation, I can't remember. Bill Gates is part of it.

21 yr old me was an idiot.
Two days ago, if i was king, current me would've shutdown flights leaving florida so that 21 yr old me couldn't take whatever i disease i just 'earned' and fly it back to home. Sux for florida, but there are certain areas that are going to be hit harder.
That 21 yr old will probably feel fine, and go "silently" infect one of us because we touch the same gas pump.
China is lucky that the entire country locked down, so they really only have one "hotspot". Even Italy's major problems are in two or three regions. We have at least NY, Seattle and others... but by the day hotspots are going to spawn if people don't start staying home and avoiding anyone regardless of symptoms.

life is gorgeous here at Topsail beach ... looks like some of the folks who got run off OBX came here, but nothing near a crowd. we're drinking some beer, grilling oysters and catching fish. what better social distancing than one side of your residence being the ocean!!

Likewise, I feel sorry for people with birthdays in March and April, especially kids. Gonna be a sucky party if they’re living right.

He's not running for reelection so he's probably untouchable. On the other hand, it'll be interesting to see if anyone pursues charges against him for insider trading.
To be fair, people who have been plugged in have seen this coming for a while. I actually had to put my own nephew on mute on Twitter because he's been re-tweeting coronavirus stuff nonstop since December. His concern was based largely on what was happening in Asia because he spent a year studying abroad in Japan and made many friends there. But if Burr was privy to inside information, who knows. Certainly bad for appearances.
