Death threats to a ref – the lunatics are threatening to overtake Kentucky's fan base

I think this is a majority of their fan base... Not all.... but a majority. They are so invested, have their self images so tied into whether KY wins or loses, that they become completely unhinged when something happens that threatens their birthright to win games.
We have a passionate fan base, and like myself at times, get too invested win or lose with our Heels.
But these folks are so off the deep end, so far out of touch with reality, that they wind up doing this kind of crap.
Thank God I, along with my fellow Tar Heels fans, do not belong to that fan base

Their announcers help feed this stupidity with their overly biased nonsense. Glad when we lost to Villanova that we just took it like champs. Nice to have class compared to others.

After the Villanova shot, I had a couple of beers; slept my tears away, woke up the next morning and life continued... not really a big deal in reality. I felt more sorry for the young men that invest so much into the game - while balancing it with Real-Life.

Against ky with the ky play by play audio. It was INCREDIBLE how the announcers were calling the game. "Fox gets hammered and no call!" "Guess who called that foul...higgins!"
"And another whistle are u kidding me!"
"Thats a terrible terrible call!"
And on and on and on. Any ky fan listening would be ready to gather pitch forks and torches after that.
Cal taking a shot at the officials in his press conference didn't help either.
I wonder if the idiot has said anything to get the fan base to chill out....I'm guessing not! Prolly to busy meeting with investors and telling them that he needs more money to purchase more OAD's so he can win it all next year!!
I thought it was bush league of Cal to whine about the officiating. He indirectly started the whole fan base to go bat ish crazy IMO. BUT bottom line .....NO One, no official, forced him to keep those players on the sidelines in the first half.... HE and HE alone made that decision
I thought the same thing after watching his post game...."My whole team nearly fouled out in the first half"....Truly classless comment from a Coach IMO!....The fans can say what they want, but a Coach should not be blaming the Refs in his post game comments, but that's who Calipari is, and that's why Kentucky fans love him because they are like that themselves....Classless!
I think Cal is feeling some pressure. He has the best recruiting class every year and has 1 title to show for it. I don't mean pressure on losing his job , but pressure as the guy who just can't win it all when he has the best talent.
And he can thank the cretin thugs for ensuring he got that "one"....
The problem is most of these morons are inbred in that state and just not very bright. They don't have the ability to understand this is just a game in their pathetic life UK basketball is the only bright spot.
Cal has quietly built a zero accountability camp in Lexington. He's easily had the most talent of anybody for quite a long stretch yet won when it mattered far less than every other elite program. This was no different. Have the most talent, fail to reach final four, bitch about the refs for calling fouls on your team. He's a clown.
I know a lot of UK fans because of where I live. I have talked to a few of them since the game and none of them act like these idiots. They talk about what a great game it was and how it sucked to lose but that's it. I've known a few that are nuts over the years but most of them are just like everyone else. Their crazies are on another level though.

Ignorant post. The majority would be hundreds of thousands. Out of the probably million plus U.K. Fans (larger than any other college basketball fan base) you're going to have a few extra wackos in the group. It's embarrassing, but when people say that's how the majority of our fans are (making death threats, etc.) it blows my mind.

On the ESPN story about Higgins literally getting death threats, they showed actual tweets from Cal saying "I respect and am proud that our fan base is the classiest in all of basketball. Let's keep it that way even after a tough loss."
Just read that and let it sink in how delusional and fraudulent he is. After literal death threats to a referee. Yep, over-the-top classy. How could any fan base ever meet or exceed the level of class exhibited by threatening to end some guy's life over how he did his job FOR A GAME, supposed to be entertainment only for fans. 100% class. Something for all other fan bases to aspire to, I guess Cal would say.
I haven't seen it... maybe Cal has reprimanded the fans for the death threats somewhere? Roy or any other coach with 5% integrity and character would have taken the fan base to the woodshed in public immediately- and rightly so. Heck, Roy chastised our fan base for saying a PG word heard every single game, to Pitino, by one fan.
Good post, smoke. I could post a lot about this, but I'll just say the key word they miss is "perspective". Whether the Cats or Heels win every game or lose every game for the rest of all time.... really what does it matter in the scope of WHO YOU ARE as a person? I am a huge, diehard Heels fan, but at least I can separate, compartmentalize, and realize that if the Heels win or lose, it doesn't make ME any better or worse of a person.... has no impact on my health, raising my family, my job, etc. Its entertainment. Nothing that happens betters or worsens my lot in life.
But I don't think the over the top crazies without perspective, get this. There are possibly some like this in every fan base, who think winning somehow improves / defines who they are: "wow, you have a messed up personal / family life, poor health, poor character, but did you say you're a Cats fan? Since the only reason the Cats lost that last game is bad officiating.......I've changed my mind and I now deem you a role model citizen." It just seems like there are more Cats fans like this than in other fan bases.

It's sad that people choose to act that way. It's a mob mentality. Fans always look for the calls that go against their team and not for their team. They also side with their team on 50/50 calls. That being said, UNC got most of the 50/50 calls in the first have and did have a favorable whistle. I'm not saying calls were wrong or blatant....but there were some that went more UNC's way.
The flip side happened in the second half. I would prefer refs be fair consistent all game, no doubt.
