Do you think Caleb will be back?

Punishment? It sucks that people savage him. No place for that and they should be ashamed of themselves. Garbage people.
But I think few fans see AVOIDING going through another year of how Caleb played and the shots he took, the turnovers, the lack of defense - as punishment. More likely relief, mercy. Time for Caleb and the team to part ways and move on.
I’m confused by your post . We’re you disagreeing with me? It was meant somewhat as a joke. But you just basically agreed with what I said. Or am I misreading something? Thank you Caleb for making some big shots in some big games. But I would rather have 50 other shooting guards in the country to give his 18 shots a game to.
Politically correct statement would be I would not like to see the same Caleb Love we saw this year next season ..fwiw.
The thing is, there are millions of UNC fans out there. And maybe a couple hundred (at most) who spend their time tweeting awful things at players after bad games.
Correct. I should have said fan that tweeted at him. I’ve never tweeted anything at a player or coach negative or positive. Not for me.
I think we are on the same page - no big deal. If you’re saying “it would be good punishment to the fans who hack on him and savage him on social media” - yep, I’m with you but for sure he’s not coming back to prove some small deranged garbage people wrong.
Like was nicely stated above - I don’t think anyone wants this year’s version of Caleb back next year.
I’ll add that I don’t see what would happen in off-season to change Caleb or hold him accountable. If that were Hubs or some other coach’s role it could have happened during / after any of the several games Caleb played us out of winning this past year. Was never close to the accountability talk and actions happening by Hubs
Yeah that’s what I was meaning. Like I said was meant as a joke. Think it’s time to move on for both parties.
I hope he doesn't come back and I don't blame him altogether although I do think he's old enough to have some blame thrown his way. He simply didn't do the things necessary to be a consistently productive player for us on the court and find ways to impact the game outside of shooting 12823 times a game. I also fault Hubert because Caleb is in a lose lose situation. Reality is, it's best for him and us to move on. He's shown that with him on our roster taking his volume of shots, we aren't very good. We have seen no reason for that to change. Problem for Caleb is where does he go? He's not an NBA player, and there's certainly some program out there that will take him but it will be as a project, and wouldn't be a premier program so he'd be taking a major step backwards. Tough spot for him to be in but he controlled a big part of that. I wish him well.
I will say, if the rumors are true in that if Caleb is allowed back, Mando and RJ won't return. It should be Hubert's last season based on his inability and unwillingness to reel Caleb in. Just my opinion.
Holy smokes! If this all comes to fruition, I'm fine with taking the lead on getting a "HD must go!" petition going. Caleb stays and Mando and RJ go? If this happens it makes me actually wonder if Caleb has dirt on Hubs.

I won't say that should surprise anyone and may have had something to do with some unexpected players entering the portal. Be interesting to see if his exit causes some to pull out of the portal and return.

Who is in the portal that was unexpected? Nickel could have stayed for sure but it’s not surprising that he didn’t.
Unless it was on another team ... takes me a while to complete my thoughts sometimes

and if you are a scoring guard in the portal, id damn sure want to make sure caleb love is gone before committing to unc. lord knows there’s not enough shots for anybody with caleb on the floor. kid is a black hole.
Caleb COULD be really good for UNC. But Caleb has spent three years at UNC. Now he can go white hot two, or three, times a year and basically win a game. No way we beat UCLA last year unless those wild shots he takes didn’t fall. But in many other games they don’t. And it has hurt the team. Caleb has spent three years often seemingly trying to audition for the NBA. Roy couldn’t control him. I was hoping that would change under Hubert. But it actually got worse. Can Caleb change at this point? I doubt it. If he leaves it may be a parting of the ways that benefits both parties.
If Caleb is allowed back? It is Caleb's decision, do you in any way think that it is up to Hubert to allow Caleb back, do you really think Hubert does not want Caleb back, that the door is wide open for him to return if that is what he wants to do? Have you EVER seen a kid have a more free rein than Caleb has had over the last 2 season under Hubert? If Caleb plays for UNC next season it will be 100% his decision because Hubert will leave that door open for him and he should. I don't look for Caleb back but I don't blame this past season on Caleb either.
Lots of the issues this season should not be placed only on Love, there was a lot of other factors that contributed to this lackluster season. Dissention could have been an issue as well, not going into depth on this, it will come out sooner or later.
Sad to say this but we may need Caleb next year with the way Hubert has players and recruits dropping like flies...
Why would he want to come back to this current situation. Only took HD a couple of years to sink this ship.
Tyler is transferring BECAUSE HIS GIRLFRIEND IS PREGNANT, Stylez barely played, McCoy never cut it and we could easily do better this portal and Puff... say all you want about his effort... kid had the ugliest outside shot on the team.

Hard for me to phantom for some to keep saying Davis did not play his bench, watch these kids that transferred out, let's come back in a year or two and see how they fared with their new destination.
Caleb's decision is very interesting, at this point I think it is 50/50, and will determine a lot about how they fill in the roster for next year..
They reload the year after with that incoming class. A Mando/RJ/Caleb mega vet run for the year preceding that with some targeted portal adds seems very possible.
Trimble and Wilcher may not be so thrilled with that scenario though.

What will it really matter in the grand scheme of things? It's a game that has zero true impact on us personally.
I think we need Caleb and it makes me cringe to say that considering he was the main reason we were as bad as we were this past season. His shot selection was terrible. However, I think he would be better than any portal guard out there. I think he knows if he comes back, he HAS to improve or else he will be benched. Hubert HAS to make that his main point. Love/Davis/Bacot as Seniors could be interesting.
Granted, but it's the success of the school and players that we all come to appreciate.
I'm not saying it is the way to go, but it may be the path, with the big recruiting class not entering until the following year.
Sorry WV but Caleb doesn’t have to improve for HD to play him. It just happened for a full year. Common sense would tell us that HD would bench him but that flew out the door several months ago.
Hard to believe that if Caleb came back he wouldn't come back a better player. I believe after looking back at the season he and others have come to grips with there part in what went wrong and would not want to repeat it. I would bet a bottle of good bourbon that if Caleb returns it would be a better version of Caleb Love. However I doubt it would be a good situation for the development of some of the younger players to have to play behind him another season.
It's obvious to identify the folks on this board that have never played competitive basketball or coached. Caleb was not the reason last season was underwhelming. It was a team effort that also includes coaching. Armando had his issues once teams started doubling him every possession and he single handedly through away the Iowa State game at the beginning of the season with turnovers at the end. RJ had a hand injury for many games, and Leaky and Nance were not real threats so they weren't guarded. Hubert made no adjustments offensively and he at least should've given Nickel more time on the floor, because his shot was dependable. Hubert did Caleb a disservice by not sitting him for a while when his shot was not falling. Instead, he encouraged all of them to keep shooting because he didn't want to ruin their confidence. I think he's been told that he has to change, and that's why he's looking for portal guys that can knock down shots. Brady Manek made the game easy for all of the players because he was a threat from 3 and he was constantly moving instead of standing around watching folks pass the ball. Bottom line is that if Roy was the coach last year, they definitely would've made the tournament and he wouldn't have been playing the starters 35 plus minutes a game. They were all exhausted at the end of games and that's why they lost so many close ones. If Hubert doesn't develop a bench this year, then he deserves whatever comes his way. I do think that if Caleb does come back it will be because Armando and RJ asked him to and he wanted to come back and end his UNC career on a better note. It would then be on Hubert to develop players that can be put in and give effective minutes so that none of the guys have to play 30 minutes or more.

Why do people keep saying this? I don't think I've seen a single poster that has said he was the only reason, just that he was the biggest reason. If you don't think he was part of the problem, then you are nuts. It's subjective as to if he was the biggest problem in a list of problems, but no one is saying all of our problems would have been solved if Love wasn't on the team.
That’s what I don’t get either. Some place all the blame on Hubert, some on the players. In reality, it’s some of both. There’s plenty of blame to go around.
