Do you think Caleb will be back?

I think a large part of Love's problem was lack of outside threat from our forwards. Makes it a heck of a lot easier to play him tight knowing your help can lay off their player due to poor shooting. I also think the heavy minutes got to them due to either lack of or not playing the bench depending on how you look at it

Caleb didn't help himself with his shot selections at times or some of the head scratching turnovers.

Some of it was within his control and some wasn't. I hope he comes back. He seemed to have an improved idea of what was a good shot. If he can clean up some of the unforced turnovers, I think you are looking at an all ACC guard.

But please, let's find a way to get these guys a few minutes rest by using the bench a little more next year.
Preach on, you over the target now!

Cool stats, now lets address the real problem that forced Caleb to deliver under constant double teaming, think we can do that now that we have got those stat thingys out of the way? LOL
I'm gonna be honest and say I don't really remember Caleb getting double teamed at all last season. Bacot was a lot and RJ was against UVA. But, I don't remember Love being doubled.

Caleb's problem is two fold.

1. He takes a lot of bad shots. He can hit them at times, but when he isn't they are glaring.

2. We didn't have enough threats and/or Bacots game in the middle clogs the lane which let's defenders sag into the lane off the perimeter or its already clogged up which limits his ability to drive the ball. He misses a lot of inside shots because of the clutter.

Caleb also for much of the season was such a dreadful defender and the defensive efficiency with him on the floor was like a +23 or something at one point. We know he can defend good though like he did the previous year towards the end. So, why he dropped off so badly idk. He was routinely beat a lot one on one or on cuts. Whereas RJ was abused on screens because our defensive philosophy was junk.

He was doubled constantly on drives. Any guard who penetrated was. When you have two non-shooting threats (Leaky and Nance) standing on the perimeter these things happen.

Attached: one of the many Caleb triple team tags on a drive as Leaky/Nance go unguarded.

Oh I thought you meant something else. I brought that up in my post right above. He wasn't double teamed really but the defense collapsed/was already there due to sagging off.

I thought you meant double teamed as two defenders were hounding him on the perimeter. UVA did that to RJ a couple of times in the acc tourney.

Yeah they hedged RJ's screens hard because he's a good shooter. They might've dropped on Caleb's, but he definitely get doubled a lot if he started penetrating.

What UVa did to RJ (and they did it really well) was they hard hedged him off the high screen, they diverted him at times nearly 3 steps and rather than release the big continued on with the chaser and ended up with a really nice set up for a trap.

They played a lot of ball denial on him, had a guy stuck to him every where he went, anytime he drove the ball it was constantly thru double teams coming off of either leaky or nance. The problem there was Caleb was a guy that needed to see the bal go thru the net in order to settle in to a game and as has been said a few thousand times now, he needed to get his scoring started by getting in the paint with either a floater or finishing at the rim but defenses were taking that away from him by clogging up the lane, which you get with a back to the basket big with little mid range and weak jump shooters with Nance and Leaky.

the notion that Caleb was double teams is comical. Teams are able to sag off Leaky and clog the driving lanes for everybody, but that's not double teaming one player. Caleb also dribbled the air out of the ball in our new 4 out set, and elected to hoist up contest 3's more times than not. That's on him. Stop the narrative that defenses had to key in on him because truly all they had to do was give him some space about 10 feet behind the arc and he would bite on it every time and hike up a shot. Really not hard to defend because he showed unwillingness to put the ball on the floor north to south.
