Donald Williams is now a woofie

That's the way I read it, but as you know it's not always as simple as the score. There are all sorts of other things that are taken into account. I'm a little disappointed that he would make that public though. No need to ridicule the school publicly and then say go moo at the end of it.
I lost respect for Donald.

Do some of y’all not have children? I don’t see Donald being salty or anything of that nature. I’m sure his post is a direct result of folks asking him why his child isn’t attending UNC so I’d guess he felt the need to address it and move on. That being said, I don’t know about you guys but my kids take priority over my school affiliation all day, every day and twice on a Sunday. Take the shades off. This is real life.

I didn't really lose respect for him, because I can understand where he is coming from as a parent. He just made a dumb decision to post it in the heat of the moment. That's a pitfall of social media.
No kidding. People should keep their personal lives off of social media.

Well i was giving Donald the benefit of the doubt and I figured he would come to his senses and delete his Facebook post but just the opposite, he’s doubling down on bitterness and resentment towards the university as he responds to comments. I will spare you the posts. This day sucks enough. Just suffice to say he is one angry dad and has burned some bridgess.

Grew up a Heels fan. Got my grad degree from UNC in 1992. My daughter grew up a Heels fan, but recently graduated from State. She now pulls for State. I continue to pull for UNC. We enjoy giving each other a hard time, depending on the outcome of the games. It's not complicated.

He's a papa bear is what it is how many of us have done the same thing in defense of our kids

Not getting into a school is usually something people prefer to keep to themselves.
ESPECIALLY state students who didn't get into UNC.

There is no shame in not getting admitted to UNC out of high school. He’s being an ass. I have lost most of the immense respect I had for the Donald.

He is actually setting a very bad example for his children by acting like a child himself. The next time she doesn’t get what she wants, she’ll blame others instead of taking responsibility herself, an all too prevalent message in today’s society.

I have a friend who’s son got denied about the same. All he ever wanted to be was a Tar Heel. He bleeds Carolina Blue. His son had a 4.6 gpa, a 1460 on sat and he was in state and he volunteered at the hospital 28 hours a week. He got denied. He is now at State. That crushed him and his family. How could the MOP of the 1993 National Champions daughter with her credentials not get in Chapel Hill? Family First! History, heritage, alumni should be first to carry on the Family tradition. I loved seeing Donald at the ring ceremony. History, heritage, alumni and Family that is what makes us Tar Heels. So what the hell admissions??!!

I'm going to have to disagree with that. You should get in based on your own merit, not just because someone in your family is an alumni.

So if i’m reading that correctly shes on the lower end of the middle 50 percentile? That tells me nearly half of admitted have worse scores?
No, lower end of the middle 50 means she is closer to the 25th percentile than the 50th. It looks like for 2017, the 25th percentile was around 1270 (640+630). This means that approximately 75% of accepted students had a better score.
(BTW, UNC's standards are, as you know, very tough. Her 1300 SAT score would be in around the 80-90th percentile nationally.)

I know it's social media and not a term paper. But the use of "have" incorrectly multiple times?

Are we sure this is legit?

Also a 1300 SAT on a 2400 point scale is probably a lot of the problem with admissions.
I thought I read that the SATs were going back to 2 parts rather than 3 parts. If her score is based on 2 parts, that's not bad.

thought the sat went back to older format with a 1600 point scale...i’m also surprised unc still looks at sat scores...schools are trending away, at least that’s what my son’s academic counselors are relaying to him.

maybe he’s bullshitting us, though.

Are you suggesting all alumni kids & grand kids be given preferential admission? That's a lot of kids to give a free pass to. They certainly couldn't extend that privilege to former athlete's families without doing the same for all alumni.

Coach William's should get involved and give Donald a call. This is complete and utter BS.
There is absolutely nothing Roy can do about this. If Donald had gone to him, before throwing a temper tantrum on social media, he could have possibly tried to help. Now that word is out there, it would look extremely unethical for her to all of a sudden be admitted.

Donald should have behaved like a man instead of crying on FB, because he didn't get his way. I'm really disappointed in his behavior. I guess I expected more from him. There's nothing wrong with him supporting her as a State fan & also supporting the team that gave him the opportunity to succeed in life.

PS: Yes, I'm a parent. It breaks my heart, when my child gets disappointed. That doesn't mean it's wise to go on social media to whine, because we feel he's entitled to get his way.

Dang that's cold if you get a 1400 and still can't get in I was accepted with a measly 1290 way back in 2000 went military before college but still dang.

Side note how bad is it that saying way back in 2000 makes me feel old now lol

Uh I didn’t suggest that at all. I said if they are qualified and they have alumni that should count at the end. It should hold some water. Donald Williams daughter sounds like she should be a Tar Heel. My friends son didn’t apply anywhere else and he was very qualified.

I understand, but there were probably 100s, if not 1,000s of people who had qualifications similar to Donald's daughter. They can't show preferential treatment to his DD, if they don't for all alumni families. Even that is a slippery slope for a state funded school. You presented a more qualified applicant that didn't get accepted. We don't know what the qualifications for applicants to be accepted this fall were. If your friend's child wasn't accepted, how can we argue that Donald's DD should have been?

True. With just the basic information she sounds like we would love for her to be a Tar Heel. But it sure sounds like she should have gotten in.

This . .

I'm sure there was some heavy disappointment for all in Donald's family . . however, she still has the same option that others have though, improve your academic status and reapply. Take this emotional setback as a motivating moment and grow with it.

Another thing we don't know about is the non academic stuff. Schools give a lot of weight to kids who join clubs and volunteer. She might not have done any of that. Assuming they still have an essay section on the application, she might have done poorly on that as well. There are several reasons she might not have been admitted. It's not strictly grades that they look at.

Donald Williams is Family!

I'm not always happy with my natural family so I don't expect to love everything my UNC Family does. I hate the fact that he put this out on social media (I hate social media in general) but it has nothing to do with his connection to the Family! When he needs something, he has only to ask Roy (or any Family) and it will be done. I hope that DW will eventually remember his love for UNC; but even if he doesn't, I'll be forever grateful he was a Tar Heel!

Ok I am.not arguing with that. But so you have kids? How about a little girl? If you do than I know you have gone papa bear mode more than once even if you look idiotic in doing so. I know I have and I venture some others have as well

Many state universities have lost their way when it comes to freshman admissions. They are accepting the highest SAT scores out there so they can show up on the report in some publication. But by doing this they are doing an injustice to some students that the particular state university was created to serve and to educate. Too many foreigners, and of course they love the northerners. Love that out of state money above the normal state tuition. One would think that with the same exact grades, and scores, that the kid from NC will get the nod. But that just isn’t so. Something wrong with that in my point of view

I asked him if he thought this is how coach smith would want him to deal with this. He never answered (although some of his friends came at me hard). Then all the posts were deleted. Not saying it was cause of me, the thread had deteriorated into a bunch of race baitin, af am, state crap. But at least its gone.

Donald Williams is not now and will never be "a woofie".

It wasn't a whine, it was an explanation (one he didn't owe any of you who would still criticize him for his daughter attending NCSU). Next, it does not say she or Donald have given up on her ever attending UNC. It does not address that at all. Some of you are too quick to assume. Finally, depending on what you want to major in NCSU may be a better choice for this young lady. Things have a way of working out as they are supposed to. My daughter graduating from NCSU doesn't diminish my love for UNC and she now works in animal research at Duke (not rat testing K yet, but I have hopes).

Some of you (and likely ones who never attended UNC except for a ball game) need to have children (or at least sex) and learn some perspective.
