Elliot Cadeau

Well he grew up a Texas Tech fan and called Texas Tech his dream school. We've recruited him hard and made our case for him to be a Tar Heel. We may however have a bunch of guards when he gets to college. Then of course none of us know what NIL shenanigans are happening behind the scenes. Texas Tech recently had rumors that one of their big transfers was going to leave midseason because the NIL money he was promised had not been paid.

The good news is this recruitment will be decided soon. So if he picks Texas Tech, we can focus on other recruits. If he picks UNC, we can build around him.

"If" he commits and reclass with UNC, your prediction and scoop you received from your UNC assistant coach connection will be wrong. You said a reclass would never happen.

For all those that have voiced concens about needing that lead guard (i.e. Felton, Marshall, Berry) well this is him. HD needs to lock him down because he’s most likely going to reclass to 2023 and would allow for Davis to be moved off the ball.
Bingo. It's not often that a coach gets a second chance within a year to lock down the most important recruit of his early career, so welp... here 'tis...

Steat, I dunno about any of that with you two, but some of us got info a while back that (happily) the staff resolved up front to NOT let any potentional reclass scenarios get in the way of this one.

Bottom line is, it's long past time for PGU to arise from purgatory.

Now, this may or may not still be accurate (we'll see Weds), but it was also my understanding that Cadeau will wait and see as to moving up to 23. Personally, the sooner he's here running the show, the better.

I was expressing my own opinion. I do not believe we'll be adding a reclassified guard to a roster that includes Davis, Dunn, Trimble, and Wilcher.

I don't bug my friend about recruiting junk. I talk to him about the team and how his job is going, how his life is going, how his kids are doing.

That's okay, we all express our own opinions. I don't have a problem with this.

The difference is that you supported your comments by saying something on the lines of "one of the assistant coaches is a good friend of mine and I can tell you that that will never happen".

Actually, I was taken back by the comments to the point that I didn't respond to you. That was the first time you and ever had any exchanges on the board and you initiated that comment. Let's see what happens Wednesday.

As I posted above, I have heard that the reclassification decision is up to Cadeau, and given that none of the Guards mentioned is a PG (and that it's long past time we had one), I can see why.

As for sheer numbers, I suspect the decision would more come down to what Love decides to do. If he leaves (as is still expected), then a reclass would not surprise me --- nor would staying in 24.

All I know for sure is that I WOULD TAKE CADEAU in whatever class he wants to be part of.

Correct.
He wants to wait and see what RJ or Caleb decide about next year. If either or both leave, he will re-class to 23. All the intel that I have is that Caleb will move on, but RJ will come back next year. Of course, all of this is moot if he decides on another program. Again, all the intel I have received to date points to the good guys on Wed.

Guys, he is 1 month younger than Trimble...., a reclass is a definite possibility.

We have been the leader in this recruitment ever since his OV and I haven't heard that there's been any changes.

Looks to have decent handles and passing ability (which RJ will never grasp at this point)...

With that said...I have seen pitiful defense on AAU/ Travel Team circuits over the years but this highlight video was an awful display of defense by his opposition. There was no pressuring the ball..pushing him away from the lane or his spot..no rotation or help period...no effort!

If Cadeau declares for us, the only drawback that presents itself, is the effect it may have on Boogie Fland. Although he can play the PG role, he can also play off the ball as a 2G. I suspect that Hubert has broached this possibility with Fland and has this potential crowding within the guard ranks worked out. I very much would like to see them both on the court in UNC uniforms. Ticklish situation, I would think and will be interesting to see how the staff navigates the situation.

It's my understanding that Cadeau is killing it with high school NIL. Several months ago, there where only 7 states that allowed NIL for high school athletes. Now there are 20 states.

UNC is one of the top schools for "college basketball" NIL. This may factor in Cadeau's decision to ink with the Heels.

Wait... "decent"?...

I might also suggest watching him play for his actual team.

Yes, but in all honesty, I would take Cadeau in a heart-beat, whether or not it affects Fland.

In other words, I'm really glad the former is announcing now.

Oh yeah, and it's typical of AAU/Travel Ball. Way too much emphasis is placed on the offenses and not near enough on defenses. It certainly makes one wonder as to the coaching staffs for these teams can, or know how, to teach defense.

As to what you have referred to about opposing defenses in Cadeau's play, if you have been able to watch any of his games, they are playing a very heavy schedule of good to great teams, and they are very highly ranked, so trying to defend him has not turned out well for opposing teams. The kid can play...., on both sides of the ball.

I don't think that was a knock on him except specifically regarding defense during the summer leagues. I am definitely going to check out more film but I like the game of basketball and the lack of effort by some of these in the video was alarming.

Well ok, in general you're right that AAU is not the best forum for judging, which is why I always gravitate to their actual team play (unless it's something organized like the NBPA Top 100 Camp).

Watch the FIBA highlights

Cadeau announcing now is a good sign by all accounts, UNC or Texas Tech, and most think strong UNC. There is a lot of time left before he goes wherever though, as a reclassification or not. As we saw with GG things can change. A verbal to UNC would be great. Seems like a great fit.

Agree it would be a great fit, but there are still some intangible hurdles involved. Waiting to see how it all plays out over the course of time, remaining optimistic.

I don't even think he has visited Syracuse..
He hasn't. But he could at any point in time.

As we learned with GG Jackson, high profile recruits will still be recruited even after they have committed.

I think it's safe to say there are no guarantees with the way NIL has transformed the landscape. If we land Cadeau, our staff will have to keep recruiting him, and hope he will not be swayed by whatever NIL offers he continues to get.

Good points

Believe the admiration between Fland and Carolina is mutual, do not expect any commitment from him until his senior year. Most have said that he will remain in the 2024 recruiting cycle, lots of things can change between 2023 and 2024.
