Elliot Cadeau

I was told that the entire family just fell in love with Hubert, the players, the campus, and Chapel Hill in general during the OV, and the father said it was going to take a minor miracle for Elliot to play for anyone else...., and true to his words, Elliot never wavered in his desire to play at UNC.
Elliot’s family had stated that in the whole recruiting process that no one compared or came close to what UNC had to offer. They literally saw all of the UNC generations involved and that the Family atmosphere was not just words. They saw for themselves that it really is a lifelong commitment. Just like in Wilcher’s recruitment they did not see any reason to drag it out. What a tandem that could possibly be in the back court. I also hear that Boogie is still a possibility.

He's staying in 2024
Watch what they do, and not what they say. The 2 deciding factors that will influence a re-classification Pro or Con:

1. He wants to play EYBL this year with his teammates, so that may preclude a re-class.

2. Depending on what RJ & Caleb decide about playing another year. As I said before, the plan is for Caleb to move on. Will he? Once he gets his status information from the staff about his most likely draft position, he will make a decision. The same will be true for RJ to a lesser degree, as he knows that his future playing probabilities are somewhat limited and will make his career and money overseas. Regardless, it will be an interesting development to follow. Cadeau has indicated several times that if a spot opened up at RJ's or Caleb's positions, then a serious look at a reclass would be in order.

Personally, I would like to see him here next year, but expect him to stay in 2024.

I’m psyched to have a true point guard coming to Carolina. Congrats to Hubert and staff. Keep
on with the process; we know what rewards can come with great players in Blue Heaven.
GDTBATH, tough football loss to Oregon not withstanding.

I’d rather Cadeau stay in 2024. If he comes early, we have a crowded backcourt and someone will end up being unhappy and leaving. If Cadeau stays in 24, that situation is less likely as Davis and Love are probably both gone by then.

Is Cadeau old enough that if he stays in 2024 he could opt straight for the NBA draft?
The current NBA CBA goes thru the 2024 season BUT if either side wants to op out they could have done so before 12/15/22. That op out decision date has now been pushed to 2/8/23. Why mention this, well because the ability for kids to go straight from high school to the league is a hot topic and one many experts believe changes before 2024 season ends. It would directly effect the 2024 class (if as is expected the current CBA is op outed by 2/8/23), very likely to be at least 10 top recruits look extra hard at entering that draft and by passing college. For a lot of these 5 star kids their draftability is greater BEFORE they play college ball because their flaws do not have chance to be seen against grown college players.

I doubt we will see many top 10 2024 recruits that would be able to directly enter the draft not take that and run with it, those that are considered clear 1&D guys. Does not mean they all will but when you look at the very last class that allowed kids to enter the draft directly out of HS, I think there were 10 that did (it was the Marvin Williams class I believe) and the numbers were growing year over year. I would think that number (10) would be a low estimate of how many that would take this path. That will be a really crowed draft with 2023 1&Ds that enter, 2024 none & dones, and upper classmen that jump now rather than enter an extra crowed draft. That could well effect Caleb, RJ, and Bacot's decisions after this season.

I'll take Cadeau in 2023 personally. 2024 is way too far away and a lot could change.

However, we are running into a super stacked guard position -- potentially Love, Davis, Trimble, Wilcher, Dunn, Cadeau on the same roster? That's 6 guys, so even if two aren't on the team in 2023 you'd still have a tough time giving everyone playing time.

Who are our forwards / centers in 2023? We may have Bacot another year... After that you have question marks in all of Puff, Styles, Nickel, Washington, High. Seems like we could really use help there but we keep going after more guards. Clearly if Bacot leaves we need a transfer, but even still are we content with just this group? Washington has looked like a 5 to me in his (very) limited minutes so far; not a ton of lateral ability. Puff has injury question marks and a bit limited offensive ability. Not even sure Nickel / Styles / High can excel at the ACC level yet.

You have the makings of a special 2023 team with some combo of the guards and Bacot / transfer, but we need top forwards too. While guys like Leaky and Nance are solid, the team is a Justin Jackson-esque forward away from being a #1 type team again.

I think if he comes in 2023, we would at least have a chance to have him for two years. If he is 2024, then I believe he would surely be one and done.
Hate to lose out on Boogie Fland, but a Bird in ✋
