Emory students need counseling because of Trump

This is almost too unbelievable to be a real thing. It seems like something a The Onion would go with. It apparently is legit though. I know some of you aren't big Clay Travis fans but I think he is great, especially when it comes to this sort of thing. Definitely worth reading, though it will make you sad.

"I'm in New York City with my family now for the rest of the week, but I'm seriously thinking about driving to Atlanta next week -- which is our biggest market in the country -- and having an Outkick campus rally at Emory -- carried live on Periscope and Facebook -- where all we do is insult every student who walks past us. Words hurt, we need to use them liberally."

Hahaha.

Hahahahahahahahaha.

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.

Better put Emory on suicide watch when Trump gets elected. Watching the election results on TV could offend those students enough to end it all right then and there.

"Hold the **** up, "Trump 2016" is a bigoted statement now? I swear to god I may end up voting for Donald Trump just because I hate the PC bros who hate Donald Trump infinitely more than I hate Donald Trump."

Nailed it.

In typical liberal groupthink, everyone says that Trump is a racist........but if you press them on it, they can't tell you why he is or offer any specific proof.

Emory is a microcosm of everything that's wrong with Atlanta:

- transient yankees
- rich folks who for some reason vote Democrat
- transient yankees

Jeez, I guess this board's lucky I don't get butthurt over a playful jab like an oversensitive liberal would. Been a decent amount of yankee bashing lately. I'd be petitioning the mods for a board-wide apology session. And pushing for yankees to get reparations for years... Everyone has to automatically "like" my posts whether or not they're deserving of "likes" because people called me mean names in the past.

I was specifically waiting to see if you commented ;)

I like pushing buttons sometimes. If it makes you feel better, you're cool as far as yanks go

It just annoys me when folks from up North move down here and then all they do is complain about traffic, complain about Southern food, and complain about everything. If you move somewhere, you gotta kinda accept how things work in your new area.

He said Mexicans were rapists. Do you mean something other than that?
Illegal immigrants commit crimes. That's basically what he's saying. Yes, he lumped all Latinos together as "Mexicans" which a lot of folks do. Is his rhetoric over the top to win favor? Yes, yes it is in this case.

People want to make the battle against illegal immigration a racial issue. Race is only ONE part of it. Illegal immigration has huge ramifications in many aspects of society: education, socioeconomic, tax base, crime, etc. It's a multi-faceted issue that the Left conveniently just bundles into racism to make it seem bad to fight immigration.

Typical yankee response.

Well, I appreciate the backhanded compliment ;)

Definitely. I can fully acknowledge that Northerners in general are a bunch of complaining @$$holes that think they own the place ("the place" being wherever it is they may be). And as I said, I have no problem getting lumped into that generalization, because unlike an oversensitive liberal I can admit that odds are that a yankee will douchey like that. It becomes much more apparent though when you take one out of its natural habitat of complaining d-bags and move it into an area of relatively easy going people - then they stick out like a sore thumb. I'd like to think I did a good job of assimilating during my time in Chapel Hill though

Nobody disagrees that some illegal immigrants commit crimes. That's not basically what he said, though. He characterized all Mexican immigrants in negative terms, which is precisely what makes it racist:

“When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending the best. They’re sending people that have lots of problems and they’re bringing those problems. They’re bringing drugs, they’re bringing crime. They’re rapists....”

I think he was only referring to the immigrants who are not the "best." Since he says that the "best" are not coming over, that would mean he was talking about the worst. The problem is the way he phrased it. He's someone who likes to shot from the hip. That can be good or bad.

You've hit the nail on the head. Their accents and 'rudeness' stick out down here for sure. When I went to New Jersey one time (Hoboken), everyone acted the same way (loud, demanding, don't beat around the bush) and it freaked me out!! Lol.

It's just a difference in culture. Southerners ask for things in a very roundabout, softened way while Northerners are much more to the point.

E.G.:

Southerner: "Hey, would you mind handing me that salt over there?"
Northerner: "Pass me the [expletive] salt."

The problem is the way he phrased it.
Agreed. He started talking about Mexico and then launched into that verbal diarrhea. Fair or not, all people hear is that he just referred to Mexicans as criminals and rapists. Shooting from the hip means that's going to happen a lot. After enough of these instances he gets the Grayson Allen treatment where everyone just assumes he means the worst. Again, I'm not saying that's fair, but it's not hard to understand why people think he's a racist.

I just assumed he was racist because he is a white male republican. All of those are racists, or at least that's what I've been told.

All I can ask is that you please don't take Jersey as a proper representative sample of yankees or the north. Those are the douchiest of the douches. I even get freaked out when I'm in that cesspool of a state. Think about it as if someone took Northern Florida to be a representative sample of the south. I mean sure, they're technically Southerners, but they're pretty much the prime example of everything negative about southerners you can find.

Southerner: "Hey, would you mind handing me that salt over there?"
Northerner: "Pass me the [expletive] salt."

This was a legitimate "lol" for me.

Ouch! Did he say that? I hadn't heard that one before.

I like how he phrases the first part. "When Mexico sends its people..." As if, somehow, the "Country Of Mexico" is picking groups of its citizens and saying "Okay, now... you go. You go. You can't go. You, you can go! You DEFINITELY gotta go! And, you too! Okay, all of you... get de hail of hyeer!"

P.S. It's the George Carlin in me.

It's almost impossible to get a generalization of an entire type of people (in this case, illegal Mexican immigrants) that fits the bill for 100% of the people in that demographic. However, if it fits the bill for enough of them, I think it begins to become fair game to mention it as a problem that effects that demographic. And is there really any doubt that there's some truth in his statement? I mean ya, the rapists part is over the top and likely thrown in there for effect - but do you think no illegal Mexican immigrant has ever raped someone? Do you really think that well-to-do Mexicans will throw everything they have away in order to illegally enter the USA? Or is it more likely that they would try the legal route if they really wanted to move to the USA? I think its clear that the immigrants who come here illegally are the ones that aren't in the best situation in Mexico, and need to try something else. For your average illegal immigrant, crime and drugs are the easiest things to get involved in because getting a legitimate job, while not being legally allowed in the country, is quite difficult (or at least it should be if proper vetting/paperwork is done).

Could this have been said in a more PC, less abrasive way? Absolutely, but then it wouldn't be the persona that is Donald Trump.

Hang on. Let me be clear about something. I have absolutely no interest in whether what he has to say is PC or abrasive. All I care about is whether there's any factual basis in what he's saying, or whether he's just making up shit on the spot because he feels like it. To that point:

Great. I completely agree. Now, are you or Donald Trump going to produce some information showing that "enough of" these immigrants (however many that might be) are engaged in drug trafficking, rape, and other crimes that we can start making that generalization about all of them? That's obviously a rhetorical question, but that's my point. He doesn't know. You don't know. I don't know, either, so I'm not going to a) make the most negative assumption possible and then b) run my mouth about it.

That's my entire problem with Trump. He's nothing but misinformation and bluster. He's basically what it would look like if an Internet comments section ran for office.

No he didn't. He said that the Mexicans that are crossing the border illegally are murderers and rapists. He's mostly wrong there too. But who gives a shit if we're offending people that are knowingly breaking the law?

Again, why should he have to pussyfoot around the feelings of those knowingly breaking the law? That seems so...unbelievably backwards. All Mexicans that cross the border illegally are indeed criminals based on the fact that they're crossing the border illegally. WTF?

I think it's delusional to think that people who aren't doing so hot in Mexico that they need to illegally cross into the USA are all of a sudden becoming model citizens (haha... get it, cuz they're not citizens). Are they all drug traffickers, rapists, and things of that nature? No. But absolutely every single one of them are criminals by definition - they are illegally in the country (with the point to the passer, @gunslingerdick )

Some, maybe even most of them, may be decent upstanding people that are just looking to better their situation in the USA. There's so much inherently wrong with being illegal that makes it necessary to prevent them from being in the country. They don't pay taxes but they still use services paid for by taxes. They can't get driver's licenses - how do we know they are properly trained on how to operate a car? Along that same vein they can't get vehicle insurance, so if they t-bone you - you're paying for that. They can't get Health Insurance. They can't get proper jobs because you're not allowed to hire illegal immigrants. Therefore, the two options are that they're partaking in crime/drug related stuff that can get them money, or they're taking very low paying under the table jobs. Either way - they can't set up bank accounts or ever be linked to any money whatsoever. They can break/steal all your stuff and you have no recourse to get anything back.

Listen, I'm not worshiping at the feet of The Donald, and I readily admit that he's a blowhard that makes stuff up all the time, and frequently goes way over the top for effect and is a walking punchline. However a lot of the underlying problems that he addresses are HUGE problems that have been compounding for years/decades now - that this country as gotten to the point of being too afraid or naive to mention (let alone combat). Its a damn shame that the person who has finally had the nuts to bring these issues to the forefront happens to be a bozo that half the country doesn't take seriously, so they therefore don't take the issues seriously. Maybe someone who is a little less "off the cuff" or insulting than Trump will run in the future and give these issues the proper light without all the extra garbage that comes along with Trump.

The TL;DR version of the above is:

Being an illegal sounds awesome - never have to pay taxes or be liable for anything, and everyone is too afraid of hurting your feelings to do anything - can I renounce my citizenship and re-enter illegally?

Of course they are. They're the same problems that EVERYBODY would LOVE to have a solution to. But he's not "addressing" them. He hasn't proposed a single viable solution to any of them. All he's doing is getting people in a tizzy by ranting about them.

We can agree on that - but I think it's at least a start that he's mentioning the problems. As opposed to the rest of the Republican party who are too afraid to mention those problems, or the Democratic party, who refuse to acknowledge that those problems even exist.

That beats the shit out of ignoring them or worse, endorsing them and then attacking those that have the audacity to mention how big of a problem they are.
