My gut call when Coach Shelton retired was that it would be Erin Matson if she wanted it. I don't have any insider information that made me think that, but it was obvious that there was a good chance she would be asked.

It's no doubt they have some intelligent player on the team. Have to agree with you that Matson was the first choice to succeed Shelton, just wishing her success on becoming the new coach. Most will have to be patience, it may take her some time to achieve a lofty status.

some blow back on matson who apparently retired from international play and as a consequence the USA may not qualify for the Olympics

This year's Field Hockey team could be one of the best ever. They are scary good and we are barely a month into the season.

Watched the game, Matson is doing a great job considering her youth and inexperience as a coach. The future appears to be in good hands with her.

They are playing exceptionally well, still undefeated. That says a lot, plus they beat BC earlier during the season. Going to be an interesting game for sure. Will be rooting for them.

Congrats to the team and Matson, she's doing a fantastic coaching job thus far. UNC goes into the NCAA tournament undefeated, let's hope they bring home another NCAA Championship to UNC.
