For the drinkers, what's your current drink ''de jour''?

Though bourbon & coke (zero) is my favorite drink and my go-to drink, I find that I go on spurts or phases where I crave a particular type of drink for a week or a couple weeks. Y'all ever go on a kick with certain drinks, whether it's a certain cocktail or a certain beer?

Currently -- and @JuleZ '02 HEEL might appreciate this -- I'm on a Dark & Stormy kick. MMMmmm, those things are tasty.

What about y'all?

Beer guy here too(Nattie Lite and Bud Lite). The wife and I go to Kansas every week to a Mexican restaurant and I really like their margaritas.

To add to my above post, 3 large or 4 medium ice cubes with the rum to about 1/4" above the break line on a full size Turvis tumbler and them add a regular Coke Zero is a very good mix ratio. This ratio with that cup leaves enough room for the fizz to rise and fall and using a Turvis (especially when outdoors) provides excellent temperature stability and a top to prevent bugs/spills (sweet drinks like this can attract bugs)..

That's a good call on the Turvis. I have a camo UNC turvis that I only use to drink water out of, and had never used it for alcohol. But last weekend we were at a beach that didn't technically allow alcohol on the beach, so I used a Turvis. Works very well, very practical.

As for filling portions, not to pat myself on the back, but I've got it down to a pretty good science. I have a collection of standard pint glasses. If you put 4-5 ice cubes in there, and fill the glass halfway with bourbon or whatever your liquor of choice, that comes in at about 1.75 to 2 shots. Then just fill the rest with coke. The only time I get in trouble is if I'm distracted by what I'm watching or what I'm doing, and I take awhile to drink most of it. Usually, instead of adding more coke, I'll add more bourbon

I keep two Turvises. One for alcohol and one for water. The best thing to me about the Turvis besides the great job that it does in keeping a drink cool is the slide top. When I am fishing it keeps me from drinking bugs that seem to like my drink enough to give their lives and drown themselves in it. In my experience the Turvis can keep the mixed drink that I describe above cold in full beach heat/sunlight for around two hours. Keeps the sand out too.

When I am on the boat I do not have to worry about the drink getting bounced out of the cup or sloshed out either. I recommend everyone give one a shot. It has been a game changer for me.

Right now I'm trying to empty my fridge of all the Coronas, Corona Lights, and Dos Equis left over from our Cinco de Mayo party. I'm pretty sure I could drink Coronas all day and never get drunk. Also been rocking some homemade margaritas since the machine is out and there's fresh squeezed lime juice left over.

My favorite beer at the moment (mentioned in another thread) is Hop, Drop, & Roll. It's an IPA made by NoDa Brewing here in Charlotte. NoDa = North Davidson Street, which runs through an arts and entertainment district/neighborhood in Charlotte. Part hipster, part bohemian, part come-as-you-are, all ages area with some good restaurants and music venues.

My go-to drink for the last year plus has been Woodford Reserve bourbon, neat or with a single ice cube. Once it hits your lips, it's so good. It's so smooth I can drink the stuff like a beer, which is why I have to be careful with my pours. Haven't even tried to mix it with anything because it would seem like a shame. The ABC store has had it on sale every other month. I'm not sure what they have against my liver.

The ABC store....
LOL I had almost forgotten about those pesky devils. By far my least favorite part of living in N.C. was government-run liquor stores. Close down at 9...ARE YOU KIDDING ME?? 9 p.m. is usually when I start drinking for the night. Georgia does alcohol sales right (on days excluding Sunday).

Hmmm. Think I may give that Woodford Reserve a shot this afternoon. Any particular version?

It does require some planning in advance if you live in NC. Also encourages people to stock a liquor cabinet.

Just the standard stuff (see below). Right now you can get a fifth for $31 and change (normally $38 I think). Not sure if it's the same at all stores across the state, but that's some good value.

You like cider over ice and you're calling other posters women? LOL.

Take the effeminate part of it out of the equation and it's still ridiculous to ruin good bourbon with cola.

I also think margaritas are girly too. I bet you like yours frozen - which is even more girly than on the rocks.

"Pretty sure Raising wins"...a gift certificate to get his nails done. I'd tell you not to be jealous but I know that's just how chicks are.
You are certainly an enigma, sir. You harp on and on about enjoying your role as an 'elitist' Southerner who likes to look down on people for not being fancy. But you're also a grown man with a wife and kids who still buys Natty Light. I'm not sure how to reconcile this dichotomy.

As I said in a thread related to being from the South a couple months ago, that's what being Southern is all about - "putting on" as my mom would call it. Yes, indeed, I'm an elitist Southerner by day that wears seersucker suits from Brooks Brothers and I admonish peasants that are not up to my standards. But I also go four-wheelin' when no one is looking and keep a spittoon in my car. I am the epitome of The South.

Bourbon on the rocks is generally my go-to liquor drink. I've been enjoying a bottle of that Woodford Reserve that I got for Christmas, and I like a nice Scotch from time to time as well, but when it's on my own dime I'm perfectly happy with Jack or Jim.

For mixed drinks you can't go wrong with a dark 'n stormy as mentioned above - but it's not always easy to find a good ginger beer to make it with (ginger ale is NOT the same thing). On a boat or on a hot day at the beach I do like a nice refreshing gin and tonic, not sure I've ever had one indoors.

Or just about any decent beer or wine.

gin and tonic,

I am forbidden from drinking gin and tonic. My wife has outlawed it ever since I went berserker at the Greater Greensboro Chrysler Classic back in '98. I made an ass of myself and totally offended Fred Funk's wife among others. But truth be told, I had stopped drinking gin and tonic before that. Because I was in to Bombay Sapphire gimlets by this time.

Certainly not the same thing. IMO, Gosling ginger beer and Gosling black rum is the ticket. Amazing taste. It is hard to come by, sometimes, in N.C. though (again, ABC stores suck), but I think you can get your local ABC store to purchase it for you or something. I'm fortunate that there's a good liquor store near my parents that both Gosling products, so I pick some up whenever I'm visiting them.

Distilled in Kings Mountain, NC and one of my clients.
th

Hook, I didn't know any legal liquor was distilled in Gaston County ;)

Haha, they're in Cleveland County THN11 so it's legal. But you're right, my little town of Bessemer City was once referred to as "Little Chicago" because of all the bootleggers in the area. Al Capone had nothing on us. We had a Pontiac dealership here in town that, back in the 1950s and 1960, all the "liquor runners" from miles around would come to order their souped up vehicles. They would drive up into the mountains where the moonshiner stills were located and transport it down for distribution. The local police just couldn't catch them. If you've seen the movie "Thunder Road" starring Robert Mitchum, you'll know what I'm talking about. Here's a bit from the movie...
