George Floyd death

It was a joke.

Drew Brees is what he's always been, a very very conservative rich white guy. He just had zero awareness yesterday with his comments when you think about his locker room and the climate of America this week.

He's a really good dude, I like Brees a ton. He should have just shut up yesterday. His apology, as far as apologies go, was spot on. Just wonder if he lost that locker room.
He was asked a question. It's not like he came out and made a statement. He also said the same equality stuff in a previous post and in the same interview. People just ignored it, because he was honest and consistent about his opinion. He's a perfect example of what have you done for me lately though. The guy just donated $5 million about a month ago, which will help a significant number of black people. Now he's a shit person though.

As for the locker room, it will be fine as long as they are winning and Brees throws them the ball. Not too many holier than thou athletes in this world.

I lost all respect for Brees with his cowardice apology. Piss on him.
He didn't really apologize for his opinion if you were paying attention. He didn't say anything he hasn't said before and he didn't say he feels different about kneeling. He just said he was sorry and hurt people didn't understand what he was saying and it was a bad time to say it.

I actually haven't heard many, if any, people (especially fellow athletes/teammates) call him a shit person. Because, as we both said, he's not.

As for the locker room, yeah, winning definitely cures all and some of his teammates have already said he's shown leadership for apologizing
As with anything, the better you are at something, the more leeway you have if you do something dumb.

He was just utterly tone deaf with his comment yesterday and I'm sure made his life a living hell last night with all the phone calls/texts he had to deal with.

But he wasn’t wrong. It’s an opinion. It can’t be wrong.

Where in my post did I say he was "wrong."

I have an opinion that he was tone deaf to what's happening in this country right now, which is a pretty consistent opinion from both white/black people who have commented publicly about it.

I haven't seen those exact words, but there's been many people who have come close to that. Even the always (unless it hurts his wallet) woke LeBron had an opinion about it.

Certainly bad timing, but he was asked a question and answered it. It was obviously a gotcha question from the reporter and he should have recognized it, but he didn't. Definitely funny to see people forgive him even though he never actually changed his stance on the issue.

You didn’t. The Saints linebacker said it.

I have opinions too. But mine aren’t ruled by the masses. I form my opinions independent of others and not even a bunch of people irrationally getting mad and breaking the law changes mine.

Btw, you still haven’t answered my response to your stupid comment about me “shouting on” Candace Owens. You ever going to revisit that or no?

Mine aren't controlled either. I just happen to have an opinion that a lot of rational people also share. Weird that you think something is wrong with that.

re: Candace Owens, I honestly forget but I'm guessing I thought you were being sarcastic and you weren't. If so, my bad.

yeah, i didn’t get anymore or less, yet people are freaking out about him clarifying a statement as if it’s an apology for a belief, on yahoo finance btw.

Ya. When I heard his first comment I thought "Odd timing, but he seemed to eloquently explain why he thinks the kneeling during the anthem isn't the right approach". Then he got dragged for it.

When he issued is apology I thought - oh no, what are you doing Drew, doubling down on it? You're gonna get double dragged now. Then everyone came out and lauded his apology comments. So I clearly have no clue what's going on.

how does this sit with errbody?

aaron rodgers on the socials:

“A few years ago we were criticized for locking arms in solidarity before the game. It has NEVER been about an anthem or a flag. Not then. Not now. Listen with an open heart, let’s educate ourselves, and then turn word and thought into action.”

I thought Rodgers was a douche before he said that. My opinion of him hasn't changed.

Wow, You made a complete sentence and never said a damn thing
"not understanding anything but feeling everything is the main trait of the liberal.". Your obliviousness is remarkable. I wish there was a way to make you understand that you just validated my point far better than I ever could have.

The difference I saw as opposed to so many non-apology apologies floated out there, is he detailed the reasons why his comments were wrong, specifics to the larger issues that his stance fails at. While stating a general belief, he totally missed the reality and context of the bigger issue. That is what he apologized for.

We will see how he responds in the future ?

Well said but be careful of the apology police.

What I don’t care for is how people jumped on Brees. Politely tell him he was being tone deaf or that his comments were bad timing. But to call him a ‘dumb f**k’ like Antonio Cromartie? That’s not helpful or useful.

People really have to stop being woke purists.

Who’s the next white person that will apologize? Strange that only white conservatives have to apologize.

You making Antonio Cromartie your basis for the reaction to Drew Brees seems flawed.

Your opinion doesn’t matter

Yeah not going to lie, I’m not going to kneel and apologize for something I didn’t do. I can acknowledge the ills of the past and seek better solutions for the present without all the dumb posturing. Because that’s all it is those people in Houston are doing.

I don’t have anything to apologize for. But I want to see reform. That’s my stance.

Yeah not going to lie...
Is that a necessary qualifier?

I don't think anyone is asking you to kneel, or forcing you to kneel. But, it might help get some of the reform that you claim to want by acknowledging, or maybe trying to understand WHY people are doing it. It might not be "dumb posturing" to them. That's all it is to you. But, it might not be all it is to the people who are actually doing it.

People are not being forced to psychically kneel but just like Brees he stood for something that he believed in and he was bullied into asking forgiveness with hat in hand, to satisfy his black teammates and the media. The Sacramento King play by play guy was forced to resign because he tweeted #alllivesmatter.

Here you go walking the streets asking people to get on there knees and ask forgiveness.

These dumb fuks are doing it.

Hey, man... I don't think people's lives deserve to be completely ruined because they made a statement or offered an opinion that was controversial. I encourage people to say WHATEVER THEY WANT! I don't believe in censorship at all. Disagreeing tends to bring about growth and eventual change. Despite all of the contention that's going on, I do NOT want people to ever feel like they cannot say what they're thinking. By all means, SAY IT! But, be prepared if there is criticism. That is part of the deal. You can think it, and say it. But,t here's no guarantee that it will be well-received. If you're sorry, or you feel like it was inappropriate (whether it's because people were upset, or whatever the reason), then apologize. Or, don't apologize! Or, if you feel like it was misinterpreted, or misunderstood... clarify it. One thing is for sure; We are living in times where people are extremely sensitive! We have options. You can say "fvck them!" and see how far it takes you. Or, you can try and adapt to the situation without totally abandoning whatever principles you believe you have, and see if you can contribute something of use. You could ignore it. Or, you could do a little of all three, or more of some and less of the other!

I don't think Megyn Kelly should have lost her show because she verbalized that she thought it was okay- when she was a kid 50 years ago- to wear black-face at Halloween in order to look like Diana Ross. I don't think the woman who called the police in Central Park with her dog deserved to lose her job and have her life ruined over her actions that went viral. I don't think Roseanne deserved to lose her show! There are literally hundreds of examples. I don't have any control over those things, however. But, for at least some obvious reasons, American culture has some things it needs to sort-out. It's not going to be easy.

I don't understand why this bothers you... or anyone to the point of calling them "dumb fuks." I mean, I realize it's NEW and unprecedented. I realize that it seems confrontational. But, why is it so disconcerting to see someone asking someone else to take a moment to be introspective and consider something that maybe they hadn't before? The part that I didn't care for, particularly, is when he singled-out "Donald Duck" like that. Trump is an asshole who will do whatever he thinks is necessary to make himself look "good", as he defines it. But, if the goal is to try and make people aware of a systemic problem, then don't pin it on just Donald Trump. I give that woman credit; she took it a lot better and complied much more than I would have in that situation.

It bothers me because at some point someone with some backbone says NO that person is going to be labeled racist, because him or her refuses to bow before men. Then they will lose everything they have worked for. Don't be surprised if someone is forced to do this at gun point before long. I can have sympathy for their hurt and feelings of mistreatment and even want things to change for the better. But this I will not get on board with, I know that my opinion and it means nothing to most.

This in a dangerous precedent to set i know its just a few people but i see this turning into a thing and its going to get nasty. I could be wrong about that but I guess only time will tell.

Ohhh, okay. Yeah, I see what you mean. Like, there's some obligatory precedent and if you don't comply, then you WILL lose your livelihood. I get it, now.

That's a good point, actually. I don't think the "forced at gunpoint" things is the inevitable outcome. But, what's worse? Losing your life, or losing your livelihood? By livelihood I mean your ability to live a fulfilling life, as you perceive it.

Yes and I could be wrong about someone being forced to do it but it wouldn't surprise me.

And losing everything you have earned or worked for may very well be worse.

I can assure you I will die before I kneel and apologize for being white or for something I didn't do. I couldn't live my live as a man if I ever done something like this and my kids were to find out that I did it. By videoing people doing this it turns into a trophy for the person that ask someone to do. No person is below another person to the point of doing this, this doesn't bring us closer together in any way. This futher divides our country.
