Hammer falls at ESPN .... 100 on air gone

Saw where Ed Werder got the axe...that's crazy because he was one of the good ones!! Not sure what them clowns are doing there at ESPN but it has truly gone south.....actually has gone north!!!hahaha

Millions of subscribers lost and a real tilt to the Left with political angles everywhere ....Too many women... not enough sports

Could see this coming a mile away

Gonna be interesting to see who is left..... I am sure Stephen A will be one of them>>>>UGGGGGGHHHHH

Good because so many of them are terrible and when they start trying to be funny and make cute little quips , I just have to turn the channel even if the score I was looking for hasn't scrolled by yet. Some of the chicks are just ding bats.

Just like the other networks, the root issue here is streaming and social media. Networks' lifeline is ad revenue. Ad revenue is driven by viewership. ESPN / Sportscenter's draw was highlights with a bit of a "hip hop" flavor added in...but now with Twitter, I can log onto my phone and 50 different people -- fans, reporters, etc -- have already posted highlight clips in almost real-time. I don't have to wait for the 11pm Sportscenter to see their "SC Top 10" of the day.

Streaming and Social media have cut off network lifelines and you're seeing the affect of it. They are dying a very slow death. #AdaptOrDie

The new "SC at 6" is a microcosm of the downfall of that network.
And it's not an accident that that show was created. That's the direction ESPN wants to go in.... which is tone deaf. ESPN's ombudsmen (show of hands here who even knows what an ombudsmen is) put out a statement recently that they are encouraging all on-air employees to be more political

Ya, as long as the on-air employees are political in a way that agrees with managements politics.

Swing and a miss.
My bad. I thought you were asking what they actually do and not what they are supposed to do (as it relates to ESPN and the vast majority of companies). In theory, they are independent and are suppose to investigate the complaints against the company and make recommendations on how to fix the issues.

Ah...sounds like a solid business move, to me.
Right? Here's what I don't get. About 50% of the country leans right, politically. Sure it's not exactly 50 percent, but for our purposes of this discussion, it is. So why in the world would you actively condone and encourage your on-air personalities -- most of whom probably lean left -- to talk politics on the air? You're alienating half of your potential customer. It's why I never understand why companies make politically-charged ads. Unless you're a mega corp like Coca-Cola or Apple where you have billions of customers and you won't feel it if a couple million walk away, then you should stay away from supporting a political side. It isn't good business.

Same thing with targeting your message to a particular gender or race. I mean sure there are instances where you have to (Victoria's Secret sort of has to only target women) but if you don't have to chop your Total Available Market into half or smaller, why would you?

Answer -- a large portion of their target audience includes kids / teenagers / adolescences. The larger picture here could be trying to funnel those minds towards their liberal agenda...a lot of future pro athletes grow up watching sports, so in theory, you could be indirectly influencing future "voices" to lean more liberal.

Already happens in public schools (at least around here) so that's certainly not out of the realm of possibility.

There was a time where my TV would always be on ESPN. Sportscenter used to be awesome back in the day. Stuart Scott, Rich Eisen, Dan Patrick, etc. introduced a perfect mix of entertainment and information. Now, it's straight garbage, and I haven't watched an episode of Sportscenter in probably about a decade or even a little longer.

In that article it says that they're relaunching Outside The Lines. That is the worst program they have. Anytime Bob Ley opens his mouth on that show I wanna put my fist in it.

I do really like SVP at night though. He has good guests and always references the betting lines and bad beats - I think his show is great.

I wasn't aware they ever dropped Outside the Lines. But yes it's the worst. It's basically a race issue every day.

Their college shows are top notch. It's the only non-game programming I'll watch. College GameDay is the best.

I can't even get into college gameday. I know you have to take a lot of this stuff with a grain of salt, but I've started streaming the WFNZ crew b/c at least that feels authentic, even if I don't agree with them half the time.

Just heard that ESPN is losing 84 million per month (not losing as in a loss, but making that much less), which is $1 Billion per year, from people who have cut cable subscriptions. The math on that is that ESPN gets $7.21 per month from every cable subscription in the USA, and that I guess that means 12 million have cut the cord in whatever timeframe they're looking at. Once people realize they're paying ESPN $87 per year whether they watch it or not I guess they get a little miffed.

I have gotten to where I ONLY watch ESPN IF there is a game, particularly a HEELS game on, and maybe some other game BBall football, lacrosse etc that is worth it ........Other than that FORGET IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Exactly. And I grew up turning to ESPN first ... that was in the mid 90's to 2003 or so. Straight downhill since then.

Check out the lay offs and their twitter accounts...many of them are conservative voices!!!! Anyone surprised!!
