We have some really good wins under our belt. Those who may be concerned about whether we will get into the NCAAT should be reassured. Sure, we could play ourselves out of the tourney if we go on an awful losing streak, but short of that, our good wins should guarantee us a slot.
Using Pomeroy's ratings, we have wins over these guys:
37 - Arkansas
24 - Michigan
9 - Tennessee
14 - Ohio State
37 - Notre Dame
16 - Clemson
That's 6.
Duke has 6 wins of that caliber, as well. So does Virginia.
Villanova has only 4. So does MSU. So does Kansas.
Gonzaga has 3.
Purdue has 8. Impressive.
To be fair, you can only win the games you have scheduled. So the teams with fewer wins simply didn't play as many good teams.
Which brings me to my real question: How many of those good wins would still be wins if we played those teams today. We got a taste of that in our rematch with Clemson. We probably win that if Pinson isn't hurt, but no guarantees. And Clemson probably wins even if we do have Pinson if they have Grantham. You can play that game all day.
I think we'd be in trouble against a few of those teams in a rematch today. They've gotten better. We have too, in some ways, but not as much as they have.
For example, Tennessee was #23 when we played them. They're #9 now.
Ohio State was #45 when we beat them. They're #14 now.
Michigan was #41 when we played them. They're #24 now.
Those 3 wins might be hard to replicate.
