How Many of Our Good Wins Would We Win Today?

We have some really good wins under our belt. Those who may be concerned about whether we will get into the NCAAT should be reassured. Sure, we could play ourselves out of the tourney if we go on an awful losing streak, but short of that, our good wins should guarantee us a slot.

Using Pomeroy's ratings, we have wins over these guys:

37 - Arkansas
24 - Michigan
9 - Tennessee
14 - Ohio State
37 - Notre Dame
16 - Clemson

That's 6.

Duke has 6 wins of that caliber, as well. So does Virginia.

Villanova has only 4. So does MSU. So does Kansas.

Gonzaga has 3.

Purdue has 8. Impressive.

To be fair, you can only win the games you have scheduled. So the teams with fewer wins simply didn't play as many good teams.

Which brings me to my real question: How many of those good wins would still be wins if we played those teams today. We got a taste of that in our rematch with Clemson. We probably win that if Pinson isn't hurt, but no guarantees. And Clemson probably wins even if we do have Pinson if they have Grantham. You can play that game all day.

I think we'd be in trouble against a few of those teams in a rematch today. They've gotten better. We have too, in some ways, but not as much as they have.

For example, Tennessee was #23 when we played them. They're #9 now.

Ohio State was #45 when we beat them. They're #14 now.

Michigan was #41 when we played them. They're #24 now.

Those 3 wins might be hard to replicate.

We would win them all if we played the same as we did then. You are flipping a coin on our 3pt % at this point.

none. KW was playing like an All American then. The last few weeks he has played like a walk on

Is it necessary to kick our team while they’re down?

no one is kicking them. it's a legitimate question and quite frankly we were lucky to get so many quality wins early in the season when we were playing better because for the last 2 weeks we've looked like a bubble team. We probably need AT LEAST 4 more wins to guarantee a spot

That makes me nervous. We'll have no issues beating Pitt on Saturday. But then after that, we only have 3 home games. We should find a way to beat ND and Miami - but we know the dook game is a pipe dream. Then we'll need to steal one on the road - and I imagine we'll be underdogs in all of them.

It’s undoubtedly kicking them when they’re down.

8 games left. we go 4-4 the rest of the way that puts us at 20-11 with some solid wins and really only one bad loss which was Wofford. also puts us at 9-9 in a deep ACC. Probably gets us a seed in the 6-8 range. No way a defending champ that wins 20 games in the ACC doesnt get in the tourney
