Hubert Davis Post-Clemson Press Conference

If Hubert really believes rebounding is so important, as he said, then why has he been recruiting shorter and shorter? That worked with Armando in the middle.

Yes, we are a really short team. But that's by choice. We could play big, but we don't. Yes, yes, because we have an abundance of short talent and you want your best talent on the floor. But you recruited all of these guys. You created a team where the best talent on the floor produces mediocre rebounding.

I don't know if that's bad recruiting, bad development, or bad PT choices - but it isn't where I'd expect someone who believes in the importance of rebounding would position his team.

For those who have forgotten, our 2025 recruits are 6'3, 6'5 and a scrawny 6'9. That's (probably) a little taller than what we lose (if we keep Drake) but not big steps in that direction. If we are really going to address the height, front line and rebounding deficits, we're going to need some can't-miss help from the portal.

General rebounding is also not the most important indicator in who wins/loses like Hubert Davis said in postgame. It's a really old school thought that isn't really the case. You obviously can't be the worst rebounding but to say rebounding is the most important indicator is a bit concerning to me.

I was curious about the relationship across height, rebounding and W-L. While it's obvious that we have been short for the last 2 seasons, it's not easy (for me, at least) to eyeball the correlations. If anyone wants to run the numbers through a regression program or show us some scatter plots, that might be interesting. But it sort of looks like who your bigs are is more important than team height.

I was tempted to leave out the COVID seasons, but decided to include them.

Bingo. I said this last week. We all recognize our lack of post presence is a huge issue for us, yet we continue to focus recruiting on more combo guards. He's not the guy. We don't to stop the BS. Hiring a GM and turning over a staff don't solve for the main problem, and that's Hubert.

I think this GM is basically a band-aide to buy Hubert more time because the administration doesn’t have the backbone to start the rebuild yet.

Rebounding is an is an attitude and a drive more than a skill you got to want to rebound to rebound that's why Seth leads the team in rebounding and he's small.

Rodman was the best rebounder to ever live and there is a reason, because its and attitude and he has a huge one.

You beat me to the Rodman analogy. Gotta have that “DOG” in you and fight for it

Man just look at all of the double digit losses. Thats not Tar Heel basketball very few when Dean was coaching

I wonder how many times in the years that Roy coached has he ever said the words "I don't know" in a press conference.

I feel like the Dean Smith teams had a lot of close games, but he was the master at coaching end-of-game scenarios. Hubert, not so much. At least not yet. Go Heels!
