Archer you are right but it is multiple things that have added up and compounded. For example, the constant pounding we got in the media, the fact that the NCAA issues were talked about multiple times in every game that we played in on TV, it altered perception of us, much more than what the NCAA was doing actually did. It was a degree of brain washing by it being plastered literally everywhere every day. How many times was our NCAA stuff mentioned in that natty game, I lost count at 5. When Vital called our games he was going to go off on a 10minute speech about it, no matter if it was good or bad what he was saying the fact it was yet again brought up spun us in a negative light.
Thank goodness that negative hype seems to have now jumped the shark, actually been a while since I heard it mentioned for one of our games. Oh, I am sure it will bubble back up come the off season but it seems to have lost much of its steam nationally. Our rivals will still pound it as hard as they can but they can pound that and sand as far as we care, they get just as far pounding either one.
Winning has a funny way of changing the narrative and I thinking it is changing it in our case. All the talk last off season was about Pitino and Livlle and the strippers but they are winning now and that talk has abated. Kal was a cheater and everyone knew it but then his KY teams began winning and now he is a great recruiter? Look at all the BS that has gone on at Kansas since Roy left, even now, but his teams are winning and he seems to be able to walk above the fray. And K was the greatest coach on the planet until his teams didn't play up to their hype last season or so far this season and aqll the sudden there are questions of why he does not play his bench more and questions of why 5 stars aare not living up to their incoming billing? LOL Funny how the narrative changes when you win as opposed to when ya don't.
