Same. I recognize Smashmouth is LOL bad, but it's so nostalgic for me that I'll always smile when it comes on.
I'll admit to sorta liking that one song, (and maybe one other that I don't remember the name of) but its mostly nostalgic because my kids were very young when All Star came out and they would dance and sing to it.
Other than All Star & Walkin on the Sun (which might be what you're thinking of), I can't think of a song they had. They did do "I'm a Believer" for Shrek, but that wasn't originally their song, so I don't count that. Not enough exposure for me to hate them, but in terms of being a great band, I would say they aren't, since they didn't have any sort of staying power.
I like some of his early stuff, but I can see why some don't like Bruce. He's an acquired taste in music.
Finally, something we can agree on.
If you were to rank bands' popularity relative to their suckiness, BEP would be undefeated champion of suckitude. They suck so hard.
There's a difference between being overrated and sucking. This thread is about sucking. Neither the Stones nor Beatles sucked.
Yes! It's bad enough that they have achieved worldwide popularity while fronted by a guy who sings in a grating, whiny falsetto 80% of the time. That he's also a judge of vocal talent on a popular television show is unbelievably ironic. Suuuuuuuucks.
That's fair enough. I've heard similar criticism about him before, with his lyrics usually being the biggest thing. I personally think his lyrics are fine, not the absolute best in rap by any means, but that's me. While age wise, I am probably a millennial, I have listened to my fair share of that "golden age" (NWA, Tupac, Biggie, etc), and enjoyed that as well. Doesn't hurt my feelings at all that people don't like Kanye, but I wrongly made the assumption in this instance that it was primarily because of his personality, so that's my bad. No hard feelings at all, as I said, I figure I'm one of a small minority on this board who likes Kanye's music.
Define "participated in" for me. I was 10 in 1977. I had the Stayin' Alive 45. Was I participating?
I disliked a lot of hair bands, but I have a real appreciation and like for as many as I disliked at the time. Great guitar riff music. I had my own unique criteria as to which ones were cool and which ones were not.
