Swing by your attorney's office and include OOTB in your will?

Seriously though, good luck. Hope you come through with health and home intact.

Annuities signed in my name?

People evacuated my neighborhood and left their cats roaming around

OK this is starting to suck balls now. I've been good with no power since I have a whole house inline generator anyway. But fuggin Comcast is nowhere near ready to get my internet up. So while I thought I had it all covered, turns out I don't.

Verizon is being real cool letting us rock as much data as we want with no overages, but tethering isn't fast enough for work or pretty much anything else. Mobile data networks just aren't built for it long term. Called Comcast and they told me to expect nothing until the 18th. I can't wait that long. I work out of my house. So it's off to a damn hotel now. Something I totally tried to avoid by putting in that inline in the first place.

WHAT A MESS! I'll wait until the sun is back and dries it out before I pay someone to clean it up.

i've been researching these since i poasted this an hour ago...we are in the beginning stages of building a house...is the new normal now?...are people installing these regularly?

seems like a great idea
I would love to have one and if I was building a house, I would definitely consider putting one in, if the budget allowed.

I really don't know how popular these are. It is an extravagance considering how seldom it may actually be used, but then, if you need it, it would be great to have.

Mine is a Cummins 30 kW. I had it installed about a year ago. Makes sense for me since I live in Fl. The electric company here has issues even when seemingly nothing should be affecting it. So couple that with weather issues typical of my environment and the fact I run my business from my home, I need to be up. Altogether, I spent roughly $16k for the generator and installation.

Most folks won't need 30 kW. So if you can do a 20 kW then you can buy and install for around $10k. Even less if you're looking to power only necessary devices. One thing to remember, you need to have gas or propane to your house. I was all electric so I had to get a propane company to install a tank for it. They deliver it and I never have to worry about starting anything or doing jack shit when the power goes out. Within a second of the power going out everything is switched to the generator and I'm running like normal.

our n'hood, for whatever reason, also loses power occasionally during storms and also has glitches.

thanks for the info!

I purposely bought a house in a neighborhood that has buried power lines and is less than a mile from electric sub station. I never lost power in hurricane Matthew or Irma. Everyone around me, not in this neighborhood, did lose power. I have gas lines so my stove, etc. will work with out electricity. I have thought about getting a generator like discussed above, but so far unnecessary.
