I thought Karnowski for Gonzaga was wearing a watch. Turns out it's probably a thumb brace that goes around the wrist.

Which made me wonder whether there's any rule against wearing a watch. If not, why not have players wear smart watches? Then coaches could instantly call plays, or ask for a TO, or switch D or whatever - and all players would get the message. Flash a big number or a color. Nothing that would be hard to recognize.

Let's put an object in a contact sport that could cause serious injury on the wrists of each player. I don't think this will catch on.

Fair point, but I assume there are ways to take care of that. They could design them to be safe or fit them into a protective band that would be no more dangerous than that brace on Karnowski.

I'm used to the luddite responses here to any kind of change, but I would have thought someone would have enough imagination to think beyond a knee-jerk negative response.

I actually did think about my response for a minute if it makes you feel any better. I see no upside to your proposition and think it's a pretty awful idea. But maybe someone will come along that will feel differently. I actually thought it was kind of humorous-in a good way.

I don't think it's a dumb proposition at all. In fact, I think there must be a rule that prevents it - otherwise I imagine someone would have tried it already.

As I said, I thought you raised a fair point.

The upside is the quickness of communication during play.
