Istanbul bombing

Right, but that's not what I'm saying here. I'm saying profile the shit out of anyone that fits the statistics/probability - and monitor accordingly.

Sure it might hurt some feelings.... but in my opinion: Lives > Feelings.
Well, I have no problem vetting people that we can get a name and back-story on.

But, I'm talking more about those people that are living and staying IN the countries over there who may or may not be planning something.

As far as those who want to come live here? I have no issue with being responsible and making sure that who is being allowed in is being checked-out. But... I don't have any faith in the government doing that with any convincing level of effectiveness. These people waste millions of dollars chasing rabbits to score political points to keep their jobs. They love this illusion of "We're not as bad as them." It pays well! I simply don't trust the people in charge because of their own self-preservation instincts. I wouldn't put it past them to allow dangerous people IN the country so that, when they do go off on some mall or movie theater, they can point fingers of blame and keep up the appearance of this political ruse, and keep drawing an inflated paycheck and get perks from every lobby that walks into their office. Not to mention trying to take our own gun rights away from us because of the accessibility and lack of keeping track of the ones who are already dangerous. Because government is so corrupt here, BOTH SIDES, I wouldn't trust them with a mop job.

So, by reading that paragraph, I could assume that you feel the only way to keep the govt in check in regards to immigration is to completely close the borders. We finally agree.

Strum, dear.... you realize you are talking to people who are afraid to share a bathroom with transgender, right?

Again, my stance on that debate was that non-transgenders would take advantage of being able to use whichever restroom they wanted by claiming to be gender confused, or identify with a different gender, or whatever story they would make up to use a bathroom they shouldn't be using. I have no problem with sharing a bathroom with transgender people. I have no problem sharing a bathroom with men, and if women want to waltz in and watch me take a piss, I'm fine with that as well. I just respect the privacy of women (and men for that matter) that aren't keen on letting anyone go into any bathroom they please - purely as a safety precaution.

That's a debate for a different thread though, I believe.

You could assume that, but that's not what I was suggesting. We haven't kept government in check in... forever ago. The government is complicit in a lot of this problem anyway. If the borders kept the government out, I'd be on-board.

Do you see my suggestion as a viable option for keeping govt in check in regards to immigration?

Well, I'm not sure how it keeps them in check. It's not like we, the citizens, are in charge of any of this anyway.

In keeps them in check in your mind because those evil politicians aren't able to just bring in the ones they like or the ones that benefit them which is something you said you worried about. and yes, this is purely hypothetical as I'm aware we have no control over it.

So, is that a yes to the question I posed?

Totally "shutting down the borders" isn't even an option without the government doing it and being in charge of it. Hypothetically, how else could it ever be done?

Vigilante snipers. But yes - never gonna happen unfortunately because the government would still have to green light it so there wouldn't be murder charges.
