I was born a Tar Heel by the grace of God in 1970 . I have always loved music and for 48 years this guy's music is my earliest memory of music that I love. I love riding the back roads of NC (hwy 701, Hwy 87, Hwy 421, Hwy 24 ) listening to James Taylor . It is the closest thing that I have to a time machine machine ! To be honest though I have noy tried tomato wine , only heard of it in the song Copperline.

I keep meaning to share this. I was watching Smithsonian Channel the other night. They have an "Aerial America" show. They had North Carolina and Virginia back-to-back. Definitely worth watching.

It's pretty cool how NC (and VA) have that all-encompassing landscape opportunities. Of course, the history is also loaded. I never knew that Zelda Fitzgerald died in Asheville.

Aerial America is a great program. I recorded on DVR the North Carolina episode but have yet to see the one for Virginia.

Most people might be asking who the hell Zelda Fitzgerald is. She was initially admitted to Highland Hospital in 1936 for schizophrenia. Scott spent the better part of the summers of '35 and '36 in Asheville for the supposed healing power of the mountain air (in addition to his alcoholism he feared he may be inflicted with tuberculosis), infamously taking up residence at the Grove Park Inn. By 1937 he had moved on to Hollywood to write for the movies, but Zelda stayed behind and on the evening of March 10, 1948, along with with eight other mentally-ill patients, died tragically in a fire in the Central Building at Highland. It is the second-worse loss of life by fire in the state's history.

The one on Virginia is cool, too. I have just as much family lineage there as NC, probably more.
