Yep; who knew he was interested in coaching in the league? But what the hey... you don’t have to worry about recruiting or coaching defense and the money is good while you’re there.Wow, I didn't see this one coming. He's a great coach, but I don't know if he has the right personality to deal with NBA players. I hope he does well though.
How close were we last time to adding Wilson? And don’t we still have 1 more scholarship open? Honestly, if we didn’t go after Boogie or Blackshear I don’t think we’ll go after Wilson
Makes sense. Always saw him as wanting to be “the guy” on the team so to speak so I guess a back up roll was out the window knowing Coles gonna run the showBoogie left Duke after we got Cole. I'm assuming that's why we didn't go after him and why he probably wasn't interested in coming here. He left Duke because he didn't want to compete with Jones.
You might be right. Just thinking, it might be a better fit than Boogie was. Boogie was ranked a little higher and seems to want to start right away to potentially go one and done, something he couldn't really do here with Keeling and Anthony. Wilson may okay being a multi-year player who starts as a sophomore. How close were we last time to adding Wilson? And don’t we still have 1 more scholarship open? Think he's one of the 10 best basketball coaches in the country. Excited to see how this works out. He maxed out what he could do at Michigan IMO. Good for him for taking on a new challenge.
All of this - plus you don't have to worry about any recruiting violations, or kids' grades, or what your players do or don't do on their nonbasketball time that might get them in trouble (girls, drugs, alcohol, etc)Yep; who knew he was interested in coaching in the league? But it is a different challenge getting the mega - egos to play together and not act like a several individual divas or head cases. I personally can barely muster any interest in watching the NBA game - I think it is really inferior in entertainment compared to college bb, but the NBA money and perks for the coaches is great!
Maybe he only plans on coaching 5-6 more years anyway? He's already 66. In that case the job security is not really a big issue. He won't have nearly as much job security with the Cavs as he did at UM. The Cavs are a long way off from being competitive especially if they don't get a top 3 pick in the lottery tomorrow night.
Might be, but we had 13 full scholarship players a few years ago. There's definitely room for him. Only reason it might not make sense is if he wants serious rotation minutes as a freshman, because our backcourt might be too deep for that. But he's already committed to one school with top academics, great campus life, an honorable and great coach, and a chance at Final Fours...Kinda seems like our roster is set now. Unfortunate timing.
Sharon won’t be happy.Darn, does that mean Larry Drew is now out of a job? Darn it, it is just so unfair.
LOL at Keatts being on that list.10 candidates for UM job according to yahoo sports

He ABSOULUTLY has to worry about coaching defense. No bail out zone, trick stuff, etc. as almost everyone can shoot it, often from 25 feet out. Playing dee in the league is awfully difficult, and absoulutly key for being good. All kind of differences from the college game. I believe that part will be more of a challenge for him then offense, where he liked a spread 3 point attack when he has the personal to do so.Yep; who knew he was interested in coaching in the league? Does anyone know the rule change when a coach leaves. I thought the commit could lift his LOI automatically with immediate eligibility if the coach left?I can see a scenario where he decommits and doesn't get his LOI lifted but decides he wants to play here. He could sit out a year and come in with the 2020 class, which would work better given that this current roster seems to be pretty set.
Too many things would have to happen before any of this comes into fruition, though. My guess is that we don't get involved regardless.
Not sure if there's a rule, but I think usually the LOI is lifted.Does anyone know the rule change when a coach leaves. I thought the commit could lift his LOI automatically with immediate eligibility if the coach left?

Agree 100%... don't know the details of his contract but a shot at the big show and a big final pay packet would make sense to me.As far as taking the Cavs job, a bit surprising as he is viewed as a career college guy. But he is in his mid 60's, and gets one last guaranteed pay day. And think he has probably gotten tired of the current college game. Having to coddle entitled teenagers and having to deal with recruiting which has become the wild, wild, west. When one looks at it from that point of view, you can't really blame the guy
