if you basketball-onlys and basketball-firsters have figured out yet that the ACC is now poised to die. There may be no more moves possible that can save it in this world of football value determining everything in that regard.
But what does "poised to die" mean for UNC?
At worst, we end up in a premier conference, don't we?
The intriguing question raised in another thread is whether there could be separate conferences for basketball and football (and maybe other sports).
Could the ACC survive as a basketball conference? Despite its efforts over the years to get "better" by adding football teams, my sense is that the ACC has never been that great as a football conference. But until recently, it's always been a top tier basketball conference.
I say we (meaning the ACC) pick up some good basketball teams and return to the glory days of being a top basketball conference. Let the football teams of those so-called football schools go join a football conference. The basketball teams can join (or stay in) a basketball conference.
I suggest poaching from the Big East. Villanova. UConn. Marquette. And more.
Heck, just merge the ACC (minus a couple of football schools) and the Big East.
Basketball heaven.
