Kenan Stadium being renamed....

Is Tar Heels next?

Don’t even say it. I’m sure if some idiots get all offended by it and make a stink, they probably will.

That’s the world we live in. You can accuse without an ounce of prove, be offended by everything, and make even a hint of an accusation of racism and the world will drop to its knees for you.

They are not renaming the stadium - re-read the article. It was on the local news like 5 days ago.

They are removing plaques with Kenan Sr.'s name on it, and instead focusing on William Kenan Jr.. So, the stadium will still be Kenan Stadium.

KevinHeel is exactly right.
A little tongue in cheek in my post title just to get your attention.
Also how ridiculous the whole thing is.
All UNC had to do was remove the plaque. Not make a big deal out of it when it isn't a big deal.

That's a shame I was going to nominate something more safe like "FOOTBALL STADIUM".

Yep and only one political ideolgy that thinks this do nothing symbolism accomplishes anything.

I think I've been on this site too long. Most of my favorite posters are long gone especially those with real knowledge of the games of basketball and football. I've been thinking about it for a while but sometimes it takes "little" things to confirm a decision.

in the future it will be called, "Kenan Stadium."

You can't make this stuff up.

You are correct. We erase history, when we should be celebrating the positive change that has occurred. Place a larger plaque stating the historical annotations. People and times are different. Here in the Queen City of Cincinnati, the city council in its infinite wisdom and following the PC BS direction have changed ‘Columbus Day’ to ‘Indigenous People’s Day’.

And the most indigenous people I know here are of German extraction who eat goetta!

"Indigenous" means native, original, or aboriginal. So doesn't Indigenous People's Day discriminate against folks who emigrated to Cincinnati, Ohio, America or wherever? How bad they must feel on Indigenous People's Day. So sad.

osjr, did you make this up?:D:eek:

Seems surreal, but it’s true.

That’s the point, glad you came of age.
Nope... The indigenous people had their land stolen and were murdered similar to the objectives of the Wilmington Massacre. I understand things like this are not taught in every school but the atrocities committed on American soil compare to those of any terrorist organization.

I learned these things at an early age and always hope that we will do better as a country. The spirit of those massacres and many other injustices lives on in different forms and gets passed to new generations.

Who stole the land of the indigenous people and murdered them? Probably some very well known names on that list. Are the names of those thieves and murderers being resurrected and dealt with today?

The poor victims of the Wilmington insurrection of 1898 (now referred to by some as the Wilmington Massacre) were not indigenous people. They were emigrants. It is a reach to say that the "objectives" of both historical events were the same. It is true that both events were stains on our country's history.

How much longer do Americans want to keep digging up past sins when there are so many current problems to solve?
It sends the message that some folks just can't find enough to bitch about currently so they reach back as far as they can to try to find a new cause.

It's getting old.

apologists everywhere..in that vain I apologise for Eric the Red and Lief Erickson for his intrusion into North American..and while I'm at it I apologise to Eurasian for the the Great Khan....

OOTB could care less about this particularly topic, we have far too many more serious subjects to consider . . that being said, JFTR, dOOk still sucks and LOLNCState is completely irrelevant.

I'm trying to figure out where we should go with this. Should we post pics of things that have been renamed or things that are extremely offensive?

A 'Things Renamed More Important than a Stadium' thread may be an epic venture . .
