Good stuff from Kenny Smith. Makes me even more proud of this team.

“North Carolina, those kids don’t actually know what they did for the program,” Smith said. “Because behind the scenes, there was 20 of us that met together for the first time in a long time. Old Tar Heel players came back. They have reunited the alumni basketball program, and they don’t even know it.

“So you have put us back on the map, North Carolina basketball,” Smith said.

Kenny was spot on. UNC was largely irrelevant once that Barnes team left. I think it will take a few runs in the next 5 years for UNC to return to the discussion as the elite program in the country. But this team did the hardest thing... They started putting us to that direction again.

I agree. Are they the elite program in the country right now? No. But getting close to being back there - and this run definitely helped with that. But irrelevant? Thats just stupid. Irrelevant is BC. Since the Barnes 2012 team left - making the tournament every year, having strong recruiting classes, and still being a team who got everyone else's best game shows they were in no way irrelevant.
