The kid is getting better and better each game and is getting deadly from 3-point land. Took me a long time to come around to Luke, but I'm there now. Luke "Froggy" Maye is the real deal.... .

Luke is what he is, he is not a beast inside the paint, he is smart and he handles his responsibility but he just is not overly athletic for a college power forward. But he works his butt off and he takes really good shots that are within his skill set. That is why his shots are dropping, he tends to take nothing but good jump shots with out a lot of pressure but when he has a good shot he does not hesitate to take it. Solid role player, that is what a solid role player does.

"A man's gotta know his limitations", as Clint so aptly said, and Luke does. He does tend to take high quality shots. And he hits the boards about as hard as any player we have. IOW, he maximizes his talent. I wish some of that rebounding desire would rub off on a couple of our more talented bigs. I couldn't be much more pleased with the progress Luke's made as a Sophomore.

As one who has never doubted him, I concur

I love high IQ players thus I have always been a fan of Luke's...glad he is a Heel and look forward to the next 2.5 seasons. Nothing will surprise me with this young man!

With his emerging outside shooting, Luke has become a pretty solid player for us.

I really hope he does well against Duke, since so many over there have mocked him since his arrival.

They mock all our players. I couldn't care less what they think. I do hope some of our fans, who were quite critical of Luke and doubted his ability to play against ACC level competition, now appreciate that he can indeed play at this level.

It's not the size of the dog but the size of the fight in the dog that matters. Luke's dad Mark was a fierce competitor and everything I read about his high school career pointed to an overachiever. So I'm not surprised to see him step his game up to the level of competition. He's one of those kids who doesn't possess as much raw talent as some but who compensates with a fierce determination and a strong work ethic. Those are my favorite types of athletes in any sport.

On your part? Yes, that would explain a lot.

If he makes similar progress in his junior year, I'll be a lot less worried. Assuming Tony doesn't leave early. Because there will be less pressure on Huff and Sterling to deliver early. They will still need to be able to play at this level, but there won't be the same urgency.

When you are right it deserves mention and you nailed it Gary. Luke "Froggy" Maye reminds me of the kid for Louisville that was the MVP (?) in the NCAA title game a few years ago. He was a starter and role player but that did the little things that helped them win the title. He was not an NBA prospect and after the title game you never heard from him again. Maye is nothing but class. He will have a bad game at some time in the future and some of us will jump on him. I guess you can call it chat board freedom of speech. It sure feels good in the OAD era when you see a kid like Maye get better and better as the season goes along, especially in a blowout game against Moo U.

Yeah, I remember that Louisville guy --- can't think of his name. Luke may not have a classic basketball body, but he is athletic enough in that he is very coordinated, has good hands and runs the floor well. I shook my head when folks compared him to Jackson Simmons because honestly all they have in common is basketball-IQ and grit. The summer and pick-up game reports I've gotten all had high praise and I can tell ya he has the respect of the team as a player. He has earned his PT as an important part of the rotation, and I expect him to just get better. You're right. Luke is not the kind of player you'd expect to play in the NBA but I wouldn't be surprised to see him play some pro ball overseas if that's the course he chooses, and that in itself is pretty danged good.

Not sure why you have to complain about it. Aren't you pulling for the kid? I'm pulling for ALL our Tar Heels.

Of course I am
But I don't see a thread for some of our other underdog players being made every time they play remotely well.

On a side note I met his grandparents at Smithfield's in Elon College on the way to the Monmouth game. Really nice folks as super proud on their grandson.

He is a gamer, doesn't jump out of the gym, isn't going to dazzle you but at the end of the day he just out works you and kicks your a$$.

There must be a reason now that Luke is one of the first to be subbed in. There is Coach Williams likes players who might not be stat stuffers but bust their butt for the betterment of the team

I inadvertently hit "show ignored content" on my phone and she once again demonstrated why I have BB on ignore. She can't be happy for Luke, perhaps because she was one of the naysayers re: Luke.

Inadvertently my sweet ass.Stop pretending you ignore my posts, you couldnt if you tried. If you really disliked them so much you wouldnt spend so much time telling everyone how you have me on ignore.

Just got done watching the replay... damn efficient game from Luke.
What's the "Froggy" reference?

Remember how much we praised Stilman when he filled in so admirably for Butter? People love an underdog who proves the naysayers wrong. That's why we're so happy for Luke. Nothing wrong with that.

I don't think we could have asked for Luke to play any better than he has, kid is a really solid role player for us. All really good teams need guys like Luke, glue guys that just understand their responsibility and execute as they have been taught. Luke has his physical limitations but the cool thing is he understands that and does not really try to do things outside of his lane. He does bring the ability to hit jump shots, he isn't going to create his own shot often but we don't need him for that.

Watch him work off the ball blocking out when shots go up, kid battles hard to maintain his position and he reads the ball flight well allows him to consistently be in solid rebound position. Kid deserves our respect and our full support, he sure has mine.
