Luke Maye

Listen, I get why most posters love him...He's an unathletic, undersized white kid who plays hard and has gotten more out of his body than God blessed him with.

I just think people also hold him to a lower standard because of it. He was downright awful in that first half.

Why are you so against him? Why do you have such a problem with our fans liking a player of the team?

Trying to make it racist. Sick of that crap.

It isn't racist, it's a conversation on race. Why does the topic make you so uncomfortable and defensive?

The point of him being white just adds to the underdog nature (with him being undersized and unathletic) of Luke playing serious minutes at a powerhouse like UNC. The percentages don't lie when it comes to white players at power 5 schools. It's not racist, it's fact and it's an interesting conversation.

I'm on my phone and this update for the new app sucks so deal with it.

Oh, and just merge this or delete it mods. And tell Rivals no more crappy updates.

Yep. After the game one guy bumps one thread that honors the kid's work ethic offseason, after he had 15 rebounds today. That equates to "LITERALLY all posters talk about". OK. All the love given to Pinson, Berry, Jackson, etc (rightly so)..... just in my imagination I guess.

I don't see us needing to combine the Pinson, Berry, Jackson, etc. appreciation threads because there are so many on the board. Luke Maye on the other hand...

It's facts, not hate.

1-6, 4 TO's, 3 fouls, and the bigs (Smith, Issac, Ojo) shot like 70% when Luke was guarding them.
Well, considering they were a combined 11/18 from the field(61.1%), I think you're probably exagerating, as usual, but I'm not going to rewatch the game and chart every possession to prove it. Just enjoy a great win and give credit where it's due. That's all we're asking.

Against the biggest college team I can remember watching, we won the battle of the boards by 22, 56-34. That is what won this game for us. And Luke was a big part of that effort, especially with Kennedy limited to 13 minutes due to foul trouble and Tony unavailable. Luke was huge today.

Don't like the Luke appreciation thread? Don't post in it.

Even though they shot 61% combined, they still could have (and would bet they did) easily shot 70% when Luke was guarding them if they were say 9/12 when Luke was on them.

I'm not going to rewatch the game either, but just because they shot 61% for the game doesn't mean they couldn't have shot over 70% vs Luke.

Math is fun.

Why can't you just let it go or better yet IGNORE Luke praise threads?

He struggled to finish and with turnovers. However, when Meeks isn't in the game the team struggles mightily on the defensive boards. I don't think this is debatable. Hicks is awful on that end most of the time. Luke replaced Kennedy's rebounding when he was in and it was huge down the stretch. He is always going to be a guy who simply plays position defense at this level. If he plays he has to find a way to contribute. He did that with his rebounding today.

Why haven't you guys ignored both the referenced posters like me? I DO have a perfect Luke praise thread and I love it! One day all peeps will realize they are barely disguised trolls and just ignore them!

Luke is one of my favorite Tar Heels and I'm am so proud peeps like him represent our beloved U!

A quick look at the length of FSU will tell you how impressive our 22 board advantage really was, especially with Tony out of commission. Luke doesn't have particularly long arms and isn't a jumping jack, so for him to corral 15 boards, 10 of them offensive which requires playing defense and keeping yourself between your man and the glass, is extremely impressive to this ol" Heels fan. I think it speaks volumes about his desire, because rebounding is primarily a function of desire.

Saw this posted on another site. Luke Skywalker outrebounded d00k's Tatum/Giles/Jeter/Bolden/DeLaurier 15-13 yesterday. That's four 5* players and a 4* versus one 3* former walkon. Hmmmm. Who woulda thunk it? Even more unbelievable when you consider the five d00kies logged a combined 79 minutes to Luke's 25 minutes. Absolutely amazing!

15 rebounds in limited minutes no matter how you look at it against a team with Giants is impressive

At 6'7" and playing against power forwards and centers that out lengthed him by a LOT Luke comes in with 15 rebounds and some untra sweet outlet passing! Meeks in foul trouble, Tony out, Hicks always a heart beat away from foul trouble, for Luke top come up with that was special. "many of his rebounds were wide open" (paraphrased), means he was in the right position, wish all our players were in the right position as much as Luke finds himself. It is actually a big time talent to be able to read where the rebound will go and go get it so watering down the fact he did that does not make sense to me.

OK, so we shower love on the whites guys, like Theo, Joel, Hicks, Meeks, Justin, and Luke... LOL I don't think I have ever seen a thread mention the only reason we appreciate Kenny for example is because he is a black kid? Simply put, race is just not a factor in our appreciation of our players, it isn't now nor has it ever been. The 3 most beloved players ever at UNC were all black men, Charlie Scott, Phil Ford, and MJ. Race does not belong in this discussion and the injection of it does not reflect this fan base or the majority of posters here, it reflects the need to play the race card even without warrant by a poster, his issue to reflect on and come to grips with, not every one else's.

Ain't that the truth?

Indeed, David. Just a silly thing to say on his part.

With Tony out we needed somebody unheralded to step up and contribute and Luke did it against a top opponent in a big way. Goes to show that a lot of rebounding and heart and the will to get your nose dirty. He was doing his best Charles Barkley immitation yesterday. We all know he has his limitations but let's just enjoy his massive contributions.
