Luke Maye

Maye (3*) 14.1MPG, 4.9PPG, 4.2RPG, 1.1APG

Bolden (5*) 7.0MPG, 1.9PPG, 1.3RPG, 0.1APG

Jeter (5*) 14.9MPG, 2.6PPG, 2.7RPG, 0.4APG

DeLaurier (4*) 9.2MPG, 1.9PPG, 2.6RPG, 0.1APG

So in 14.1 MPG, Luke's numbers almost equal the combined numbers of three highly touted d00k players. That's one 3* vs two 5*'s and one 4*.

Maye: 14.1MPG, 4.9PPG, 4.2RPG, 1.1APG

d00k players combined: 31.1MPG, 6.4PPG, 6.6RPG, 0.6APG

Doesn't seem possible, does it? Shows you how stars can be deceiving sometimes.

Don't supply facts/stats Arch, some folks can't handle the truth, ya know?

Throw in Giles and I bet Luke still looks good!

Heck let's add Skal to the mix for funsies!

Oh, I think stars are pretty indicative of a player's talent level. But they don't measure intangibles like work ethic or heart. That's where Luke excels.

Stars come for a kid when he is watched by a few key people and several others that tend to piggy back more on what someone else saw rather than really watching a kid enough to really know what is there.

Example, Bamba was no where to be found in the top 100 as a freshman, he is considered top 3 of the 2017 class. But he came on as a soph and blew up as a Jr and now he is on every want list. Example#2, as a freshman everyone anointed 7th Woods as the next great one based on his freshman mix tape. No diss toward 7th but he has not shown as being the next great one since being in college.

Huffman was the lowest ranked big man we went after I think, he was a 3 star at least early summer. I shared very early on that IMO he was as talented as most of the 4 star guys ranked well ahead of him, lot of folks laughed when I said that. He is now top 100 by most services and climbing, could well end up ranked as a very strong 4 star.

My point is to say first, kids develop at different times and at different rates. Anthony Davis, John Henson, Brandan Ingram are 3 former PGs that got huge growth spurts that took them from average PGs prospects to mega power forwards and centers as well as 5 stars that everyone wanted. Manley is a kid many of our own fans are not sold on and I am not suggesting he will come ion and start for us, much less star for us next season. But the kid is a low 3star and yet that ranking was put on him as a 6'8" 205 power forward that had a nasty injury, he is now 6'10-11" and weights in 245-250lbs and has rust because he has had to come back from 2 nasty broken legs that had him on the shelf for a long while. IDK where his final ranking will be, honestly don't care because he is ours now, I care only how he can help us from this point on. I do know he will rise strong from where he was ranked but just how far don't know or care. Situations that happen with a kid effect where he is ranked is the point I am getting to with Manley and Huffman.

I think you're spot on, David. I too, am very high on Huffman. I think he will be fully capable of contributing as a freshman next year.

Kids do indeed develop at different rates. The amount of exposure a kid gets affects rankings too. In addition, injuries can and do hamper development. The last two have had a major impact on Manley's ranking. So it's going to take several months for him to recover from two major leg injuries. The last I saw he was averaging a double double on a deep, well balanced team that had only lost one game against very good competition. So as he learns to use his new, much larger body, he will only improve.

I think Huffman will be more ready to produce as a freshman, but he hasn't had to deal with two severe injuries either. Many don't, but I feel comfortable heading into next year with Bradley, Maye, and these two.
