More Problems On This Board (I want everyone's take on this)

If you can’t figure out what’s going on by AJs poast then idk what to tell ya. You’re a smart fella you’ll figure it out I’m sure.
I know what we're here for, but I don't know exactly what went down to cause this. I like heelbent, and I'm sure he feels he's moderating the way he's been told to, or whatever the guidelines are, I guess. But, I don't agree with banning people from the board.

While I keep 99% of my activity on this site to UNC basketball, in the past year I've come over here because I enjoy discussion outside of UNC basketball and find for the most part, the guys over here are pretty chill. They generally have much thicker skin than the regular THR posters and we can bust each other's balls without anyone really getting angry, for the most part.

So that said, I'm with the group that says ban the few bad apples then run a mod free board so it doesn't waste your time AJ. I guess that makes my vote B and C.

I don't poast here hardly at all anymore, but let me just say this. Don't give in to the "whine until I get my way or burn it to the ground if I can't" crap. Keep the board in tact and trust the mods on this site to do their thing because they do it pretty damn well. If you get banned, you get banned. Deal with it. Act like you have some sense and it won't happen. Wanna come back? Look yourself in the damn mirror and understand what you did to get you banned in the first place, correct it, make sure it doesn't happen again, and you should be good. I got banned once from this board many years ago. I know what I did, wasn't happy with what I did, emailed the mods explaining that and told him it will never happen again, and here I am many years later a better poaster than I ever was. I never blamed anyone but myself.

and here I am many years later a better poaster than I ever was.

Here's my thing...we are all UNC fans, for the most part, and I just don't get all the vitriol. There are great posters on this board and most of you guys keep me cracked up. There are some very intelligent people that post here and I appreciate the back and forth. I've told you guys that.

We all know that "GFY" has been a running joke here for a long time but lately the humor has completely disappeared and been replaced by just plain mean, snide comments and pot shots. Threads get dragged into a political quagmire regardless of the topic. No one is trying to silence anyone...we tried to contain the political issues to a couple of threads but that didn't work. We end up with thinly disguised political threads which fool no one. When you have a concerted effort to stir crap it eventually starts to stink.

I honestly hate to see the board close. I volunteered to moderate it because no one wanted the job. It was running along fine until the election...since then the wheels have slowly come off and we have lost some very good posters. I don't want us to lose any more because it doesn't just affect this board; they are missed on the sports boards as well.

Trust me, I don't have to moderate OOTB to be happy, lol. If the decision is made to have an unmoderated forum that's OK by me. It'll sure cut down on my headaches. Just do us all a favor if that happens and make sure the arguments that start here stay here. Don't drag it over to the other boards.

I've done my best to moderate this place as lightly as possible and still follow the guidelines AJ outlined a while back. Regardless of what anyone else thinks I'm satisfied that I've done that. It just sucks that it's come down to this. Again.

I think you have done a fine job. I also feel there's no way to just let this board go all free will nilly. Something will be said or poasted that will cause greater trouble for the company that owns this forum. We have a place to hang out, laugh, hate, rib one another, discuss important stuff, and even help one another. We have a place to discuss unc sports without having a mofia of poasters calling your fandom into question. A lot of people steer clear of this board because of all of the above. I for one would hate to ruin that for anyone else. After the election, it was tough to come here every day and see everyone fighting. I stayed away for that reason. I am not a daily contributor like some. Work does not allow that. But reading some of the funny crap that comes across makes the day.

Also using your membership as leverage concerning a board that absolutely has nothing to do with that membership is ignorant. The arguement in this thread that was created because of that is part of the problem here.

Everyone is correct. This problem we now have on OOTB had a very simple and easy fix to it, but, there are many here that opted not to use that simple and easy fix. Folks got tired of political threads, folks got tired of reading the posts from those folks, folks got tired of a full page of political threads. Here's the genuine remedy --> Use the ignore function that Rivals provides you with.

I couldn't stand reading a certain posters political threads he started, but, I respected his right to start them. On the OOTB front page under Out Of The Blue there's something written in small print, here it is:
Carolina Blue's Free Off-Topic Board - The place to talk about anything you want!

"anything you want (exclamation mark).

In growing tired of his nonsensical so and so is going to prison threads I put him on 'ignore', lo and behold, as soon as I did so, his threads and his posts disappeared entirely, he became invisible to me, out of sight and out of mind. PROBLEM SOLVED.

I didn't have to run to a Mod, email AJ or anything like that sort. I had complete control over the narrative and content put forth by that poster. For all intents & purposes, in my own way, I had essentially 'banned' him from my sight. I have in the past few weeks put 2 other posters on 'ignore' because I was no longer interested in anything either of them may have contributed to the board.

I don't see any threads that they may have started . . none are even visible. I don't see or have to read their posts.

I read a few complaints from some on this board about my starting threads of any nature, I explained to them it would be less annoying and non-confrontational for them to just put me on 'ignore' . . I would be invisible to them. In fact, I begged and pleaded for them to do so, but, they opted not to use that simple and easy fix. Why not ? . . I have no idea.

In my opinion here, they were the childish posters that wanted to continue on complaining in opting not to put me on 'ignore'. It was that easy of a fix to their complaints. End of Story. Case closed.

Not everyone on the board has to join in on the Atlanta Braves thread, or the golf thread or #1UNC's religious thread. Skip over what you wish to. No one here is subjected to a 'required reading' of every thread.

Once again, when you put someone on 'ignore', they truly become invisible, their threads are no longer on the page.

Those 'handful' of posters that created political threads that everyone came to dislike so much, put that handful on ignore. Problems solved.

Have a great day.

Simple solution to the problem.

But the problem is, when it comes to these topics, they want to argue. That is their passion. There are only 2 people I have ever considered ignoring. One is Boy. He seems to take the fight and seek out anyone on anything he doesn't agree with. But, once in a while he poast good things. So I dont. I dont agree with your choice in politics. I dont seek you out for it. I respect you to much. You add good to the board. I think it's funny to watch some of the trolling that goes on. But at the end of the day, the majority of people on this board would be cool to meet in person.

I remember when @tazki and former cat would argue over Bush. They finally meet one day and all was well.

If people would chill out, this safe space would remain safe

The difference is that the poster u mentioned insulted the politician. You however insisted on posting insults about a politicians supporters. Which you knew good and well included a dozen or so posters in here. Then your solution is “just ignore my personal insults and pretend u didnt see them?” Lol. On top of that most of these posters had been on friendly terms with you for years in spite of occasional flare ups. Uncboy has always been abrasive and combative but you turned on us and went from the jovial clever feel good poster to a hate mongering political troll which to me is rock bottom in the social media pecking order. Look at the page today. “Who has a drinking problem” “who pays their taxes?” I mean come on. Really? I dont want anyone banned over politics. But damn i wish you would stfu.

Are you sure the complaining is not coming from just a poster or two?

That's exactly what's happening.

I don't know exactly what went down to cause this

Read between the lines sometimes, Strum. It's pretty obvious what has caused this.

I didn't have to run to a Mod, email AJ or anything like that sort.

Would have been nice for you to tell that to your Boy, and we could have avoided this whole hullabaloo

I mean, there have been plenty of times where anyone who was not a conservative (or voted for someone on the left) has been insulted so if someone insults Trump supporters that doesn't seem like a bit deal unless we just admit we support the double standard. I know some feel that is justified, which is just lunacy.

I don't like all the Trump bashing either but just ignore it. I'll admit I don't know why it is so difficult to do for so many. I also understand why getting rid of one particular poster could solve a lot of the issues for some people though.

That's only 2 threads right . . ? Did you deliberately miss the other 9 that I also started that are currently sitting on page #1, and btw, that number excludes all the Contest threads . . ? So, that would be 10 in all . .

I wish you'd stop complaining. Or maybe consider moving out of tourist-town USA. You seem stressed at times when you used to be that quick witted congenial poster a few years back.

He's aware.

Oh, and btw, I've had to email Andrew on 3 different occasions in a request to find out which 'board rule' I would have broken to deserve being banned. In all 3 inquiries, I have yet to hear which rule that I was in violation of. The last inquiry resulted in both uncboy and myself being reinstated after waiting 2 days for an answer.

In one case, both he and I were banned, and the moment my ban reached it's end, we were both banned yet again and neither of us had posted anything.

Yes indeed, please do read between the lines . .

Have a nice day.

I don't want to read between any lines. I know uncboy10 was involved, and I know he was banned. I don't know why. From what Billy told me, he went to heelbent and said that something terror beard posted was out of line, or grounds for being banned, or something. Instead, heelbent gave the boy the boot. Billy felt that was wrong. I don't know what happened. Frankly, I don't really care because it sounds like some mickey-mouse crap that occurs because there's some standard that's just vague enough to cause controversy.

To me, the whole presence of a mod means more of this in the future. Especially now with the present political climate. That's not a slam on heelbent, either. He's doing what he was asked to do. But, when you have the teacher or parent to run to and be a tattle-tale, that's what will happen. I seriously doubt that uncboy10 is the only one who has ever gone to heelbent directly. A moderator is virtually in a can't-win situation and that is another part of the reason why I don't see the need for mods on a board like this. I understand throwing rival fans off of sports boards after a loss, when thy inundate threads with gloating. But, on here? No one is needed to moderate this place. It's too easy to simply avoid any discussion that might cause your blood pressure to rise. And, if you get in the mud, no need to cry about it. If there were no mod to cry to, then it wouldn't reach the desk of AJ.

uncboy10 is highly opinionated and is more frequently caustic than I care for, but... so what? He attracts a lot of the dislike that he gets simply because he is part of an extreme minority on this board. He's mega-liberal, very young, and an atheist. He's the only one here who is all three, that I know of, anyway. He's vastly outnumbered and doesn't care.

I don't necessarily agree with everything you wrote there but for argument's sake, let's say it's all accurate. If that's the case, put your self in uncboy's shoes and tell me why you would want to post at a board where you are the "extreme minority" and you obviously don't like most of the other posters (his words, not mine) and most of the other posters don't like you (my words, not his). Why? Why would you be so tied to a board when that was the case? I have my hypothesis but I'd like to know why you think he wants to be here so badly.

In case anyone is wondering why uncbboy10 is here, it's for that awesome NCAAF contest that grows in numbers year after year. The contest runs for 1/4 of the year, 13 weeks . . he's also a golf fan, a Heels football fan, a basketball fan, so on and so forth.

Maybe, the better question might be this: why would a poster need 2 screen names . . ?

What dirty scoundrel would be so low as to have 2 screen names? Damnit

For fun. This way I can be the exact same person under two different names. The only thing better than one of me, is two of me.

Have a splendid day.

I don't know why he wants to do it. I don't think about it. I don't care why he does, or doesn't. Why do you care if he does it? Are you so tied to the board that it's making your life unhappy? You enjoy fencing with him. I'd be willing to bet that you engage him about as much as he engages you... both quite often on the political threads. Apparently your comments were the impetus for this whole ordeal. Or, rather, the way he took what you said. Again, I don't know for sure.

I don't even know that "he wants to be here so badly", either. He's not here to represent himself. He might be looking at this and laughing his ass off. It's pretty stupid that we're even having this discussion, really.

Well, I'm glad you're getting your information from such a stable, unbiased source.

I seriously doubt that uncboy10 is the only one who has ever gone to heelbent directly.

He probably isn't. But I'm willing to bet he's the only one that would stoop as low as to reach out to Rivals corporate to try to get them to fight his battles for him.

Yes only two threads, THE ONLY TWO, of political trolling with the purpose of baiting and inciting even more division belong to you. Excellent observation.
