I said that there was no middle ground: either fire Fedora, or give him an extension. The reason is that if you do not fire, the only way to help the coach sign the players he needs is to signal that he will be at the school for the 4 or 5 years the recruit would be there.

Illinois understands that logic. Illinois chose not to fire Lovie Smith and so gave him an extension.

Talk about good money after bad.

I'm asking this in all seriousness (not trying to be a smart-azz), but have you emailed Bubba often? And does he respond, or do you get a generic reply from the athletics department?

This fall, I emailed 3 times. The only response (so far) was that canned one after the ECU game.
