If we could finish with a 500 record would you want the Heels to play in the NIT ?
For me I would love to see them try to make a run
for New York and extend the season for the guys who are only here for a year. A chance to try and salvage this train wreck somewhat.

You play as many games this season as you can play, the kids that will be back for us next season need all the experience they can get. Our run thru the NIT in 2010 made us a better over all team that next season.

If we are fortunate enough to get invited we sure as hell better not somehow feel above playing!

Hard to say. I really would hate to get embarrassed in the NIT too. Understand the play all you can stance but not sure how much that’s gonna help this team. Sorry. I say win the ACCT and make the dance.

The season is already embarrassing. Declining looks worse IMO. It’s not a forgone conclusion we even make the NIT at this point. You take advantage of the practice and game time and play. Life has lessons in it.

The 2010 NIT run gave us our confidence back and made us feel positive about the next season.

Before anyone says "yeah, but the team that came back in 2011 was loaded" consider who they lost from the 2010 team:

*Deon Thompson (graduated)
*Marcus Ginyard (graduated)
*Ed Davis (NBA)
David Wear (transferred)
Travis Wear (transferred)
*Will Graves (dismissed)
*Larry Drew (transferred halfway through 2011)

Whereas we will lose:

*Cole (NBA)
*BRob (graduation)
Pierce (graduation)
Keeling (graduation)
*Bacot (maybe)

Both "next year" teams have/had terrific incoming classes.

2011 had:

01 Harrison Barnes
15 Reggie Bullock
27 Kendall Marshall
XFR Justin Knox

... with Barnes and Marshall ready to go as freshmen.

2021 will have:

14 Day'Ron Sharpe
17 Walker Kessler
18 Caleb Love
47 Puff Johnson
53 RJ Davis
and maybe 1 more

Plenty of reason for optimism - especially if we can right the ship this year so we can start off on the right foot.

* = starter

There's also the CBI and something else, isn't there? Naturally I'd like to go to the best possible post-season tourney, but I'll take anything.

Now that our expectations are sufficiently lowered (I hope) I just want us to play as hard and smart as we can and let the chips fall where they may, for as long as we can keep the season going.

We'll have to win more regular season games to get into any postseason play. This year's team doesn't win games very often.

Don't you have to pay to be in the CBI? I think teams turn that down regularly because of that.

I just looked it up. There is a $50k entry fee. That doesn't even include traveling costs.
That's a shame. Gives "pay to play" a new meaning. Well, maybe not "new" but you know what I mean.

OTOH, I bet if you asked UNC fans to contribute a buck or 2, enough of us would pay to see our guys play more games (as long as we can be sure we'll get to watch them).

I mean it's not the same as earning your way in, but it's still games to watch.

this team is not fun to watch. it's not just the losing, it's because they don't play together as a team. (of course the two things are correlated.)

Agree. Just disjointed and make stupid mistakes over and over. Rinse and repeat.

If we even qualify, that is exactly where we need to be. Certainly not the big dance, without an incredibly unlikely ACC tourney championship.

To act above the NIT would be a slap in the face to the game. There is no decision if invited, that is the level we are this year, if even that. We are not above the NIT, that would be an embarrassing level of snobbery.

At 10 -16 no chance of anything past 1 ACC tournament game. I Believe the tournament is in Greensboro this yr. So no need for a room.

After college basketball season ends, I dont really follow any sports until football season, so selfishly I'd like to see the Heels in the NIT if they can make it, just for the extra games. But we won't have enough wins for that now, so we might as well win the ACCT this year and go dancing.
