Waiting for @strummingram to tell us what song he plucked from obscurity to prove ... well, something.Where are we here?
Or for @TarHeelMark to go ahead and tell us his guess.

For shame. It's Hendrix.LOL at "Wind Cries Mary" being an easy one, whatever the hell that is. All I know is it's also the name of an Archer episode that guest stars Timothy Olyphant.
Yawn. His "amazing" rendition of the Star Spangled Banner sounds good for about 25 seconds and then the rest of it sounds like ear cancer. For shame. It's Hendrix.
Ok. If that's the extent of your exposure to Jimi then you're right up there with the average fratboy.Yawn. His "amazing" rendition of the Star Spangled Banner sounds good for about 25 seconds and then the rest of it sounds like ear cancer.

You have an odd opinion of fraternity members. And no lol, I know his catalog. Spanish Castle Magic, All Along the Watch Tower (probably my favorite song of his and he didn't write it, so..), Foxy Lady, Purple Haze, etc etc.Ok. If that's the extent of your exposure to Jimi then you're right up there with the average fratboy.
Go listen to Band of Gypsys.
Your contributions to this thread so far have included Wicked Game (released in 1989), Statesboro Blues (released in 1968, made popular by remake in 1971) and Dixieland Delight (released in 1983).Y'all are good at stopping this thread dead in its tracks with all these old songs.

I think he's good, but there's nothing remarkable about his music other than he was the first to come up with new sounds on the electric guitar + the phenomenon of "older is always better."
.
If JH came around today, he would be only marginally popular, like a Gary Clark, Jr.
It's a rockabilly tune from the 50's called Twenty Flight Rock. I don't recall the original artist but I know that McCartney / Beatles liked to cover the song.Waiting for @strummingram to tell us what song he plucked from obscurity to prove ... well, something.

I don't get the fraternity reference. Most dudes in fraternities listen to 10x more classic rock than non-Greek college aged kids. The rest of it is just my opinion. I don't care about "influence." Obviously Hendrix influenced future musicians that came after him. That's just how it works.By listing those songs, you're kind of proving @JuleZ '02 HEEL's point.
That's absurd. Ask any of your favorite musicians who influenced them and over half would say that Jimi is a god to them.
I doubt that because I've never heard of that fella.
To be fair, we generally bitch about anything.Dammit, now I have to come up with lyrics that y'all won't bitch about being too old...
Don't worry about it. @TarHeelNation11 is the only one bitching about it. The rest of us like music.Dammit, now I have to come up with lyrics that y'all won't bitch about being too old...
Being the first to come up with new sounds/style that influence multiple generations of musicians is kind of a big deal though.I think he's good, but there's nothing remarkable about his music other than he was the first to come up with new sounds on the electric guitar + the phenomenon of "older is always better."
Gary Clark Jr. is awesome and way under-appreciated.If JH came around today, he would be only marginally popular, like a Gary Clark, Jr.
RoosterOk, I'll make this relatively new-ish, and probably too easy but here ya go....
Ain't found a way to kill me yet
Eyes burn with stinging sweat
Seems every path leads me to nowhere
Wife and kids, household pet
Army green was no safe bet
The bullets scream to me from somewhere

FTFYDon't worry about it. @TarHeelNation11 is the only one bitching about it. The rest of us like bad music.
It's Tricky -- Run DMC.Let's see if @gunslingerdick is still paying attention.
I met this little girlie, her hair was kinda curly
Went to her house and bust her out, I had to leave real early
These girls are really sleazy, all they just say is please me
Or spend some time and rock a rhyme, I said "It's not that easy"
You're up. Give us one of those 30 year old new songs you seem to like.Tricky -- Run DMC.
Too slow Lingerdick
FTR, I've gone exclusively with songs y'all will actually know. I don't just bust out lyrics to a song from a current band y'all would have no chance of. Lemme think of one and I'll poast it momentarily. You're up. Give us one of those 30 year old new songs you seem to like.
You should know that I would have a good chance of getting a newer song (unless it's country).FTR, I've gone exclusively with songs y'all will actually know. I don't just bust out lyrics to a song from a current band y'all would have no chance of. Lemme think of one and I'll poast it momentarily.
If I ignore all the words except the last two, I would guess Bohemian Rhapsody.A decade ago, I never thought I would be at 23,
On the verge of spontaneous combustion. Woe is me.
But I guess that it comes with the territory,
An ominous landscape of never-ending calamity.
I need you to hear. I need you to see
That I've had all I can take,
And exploding seems like a definite possibility... tooooo meeeeeeeeee
You would be...... nowhere close lolIf I ignore all the words except the last two, I would guess Bohemian Rhapsody.
The Stones covered it on Still Life. It was a single. It's a rockabilly tune from the 50's called Twenty Flight Rock. I don't recall the original artist but I know that McCartney / Beatles liked to cover the song.
Hint: the general vibe/tone of this band is lighter/chiller than these lyrics would have you believe.A decade ago, I never thought I would be at 23,
On the verge of spontaneous combustion. Woe is me.

I beg your pardon, but that's not a good hint.Hint: the general vibe/tone of this band is lighter/chiller than these lyrics would have you believe.

You might have to provide a hint for this one.People always told me
That bars are dark and lonely
And talk is often cheap
And filled with air
Sure, sometimes they thrill me
But nothin' could ever chill me
Like the way they make
The time just disappear
You might have to provide a hint for this one.
