Next Head Football Coach

part of me is really worried about how much influence mack will have with the next guy.
I get the feeling Bubba is putting Mack in the rear view. And he doesn't need Mack. He might not have even wanted Mack the first time around, since apparently it was big buyout money (for Fed) which pushed for Mack.

It would be awesome to have Mack hang around as a fundraiser type, or lend us his connections for things like recruiting and scouting, but all that isn't a "must have" IMO, not worth indebting ourselves to his opinions in any way.

Chadwell ... knows HS football across the Carolinas and VA and into GA and TN very well. He would be certain to start at UNC with good HS coach relationships in the region.
In this ERA of transfer portal and NIL I feel like HS recruiting is much less important than it used to be. It obviously is important, can only be a positive, but less important than it used to be. Fed got very good offensive recruits almost immediately, despite the NCAA santions looming. The defensive recruiting either floundered or didn't pay off, but i think the "regional connections" stuff is probably over-rated these days. Give me a great coach first (x&o's, toughness, discipline), then evaluator who knows how to work the transfer portal, then can boost NIL, then can recruit local highschoolers.

If you spend too many years as a Hot coordinator, many ADs will assume that that you are satisfied with that and stop trying to woo you as HC. Schumann has learned directly from both Saban and Smart. He's been DC for years. He should be ready to fly on his own as HC.

He may well want to wait another year to see if Florida or Arkansas or even LSU might open, but he needs to take that next step before he becomes seen as too comfortable under Smart to be HC.

If it is Schumann, we will have no idea about his staff of assistants until he names them. If it is Sumrall, I assume he will bring almost all his staff, u les one his coordinators gets the Tulane HC job and keeps 2 or 3 guys. \

Schumann might use his Saban ties to get former Bama assistants. For example, Bama offense this year has not been as sharp as it was last year. DeBoer did not keep Saban's last OC Tommy Rees, who played at ND and had been ND OC before going to Bama. Rees is now Cleveland Browns TE coach. Rees might make a perfect OC for Schumann at UNC.
