THN11 is 100% correct -- you do not win Super Bowls without a franchise QB.
I don't think anyone is denying this, but you need more than a QB to get you there. Andrew Luck is one of the best QB's in the league, but he can't even get in a position to win the super bowl because he has no team around him. His career is going to be wasted because he has no talent around him. The Browns should trade down for this draft. Pick up some skill players and linemen this year. Grab a QB next year.

teams that could draft a qb and have the ammunition to move up:

browns
saints
jags
texans
chiefs
chargers
redskins
vikings
cardinals
steelers
I think going to a team like the saints or steelers would work out great for Mitch. It would be a Rodgers type of situation. Sit a few years and learn from a HOF QB and be able to perform at a high level when it's his time to take over.

You can work on and improve mechanics. Again, I only say this if I'm Cleveland and absolutely HAVE to take a QB. I personally would not take one in this draft if given the choice.
You can't improve ball velocity, really. I mean you *can* but it's pretty difficult. It's like improving your speed more than a tick. It's possible but not likely. I think Deshaun will ultimately be a hell of a backup QB.

Andrew Luck is regressing at an alarming rate, according to some NFL scout people. Just FWIW.

I'm not sold that Cleveland will take a QB at #1 or #12. Jimmy Garoppolo is better than any QB in this draft, and more NFL ready. Despite the posturing the Pats have done, they can probably get him for the #12 pick. I don't see why they would draft Mitch (or Watson) at #1 or #12 - when they could trade #12 for a better QB.

Agree with this. Everything starts upfront...on both sides of the ball. You can have the best skill players, but if the guys up front suck, they'll never be effective. On the flip side, a good OL can make an average-skilled RB into an All-Pro. Build the line, rent a Jay Cutler for this season, and see who is there next year. Even taking someone like Mitch at #12 and letting him be a backup for a year or so is better than going at #1, with all that pressure, and just throwing him out there to be devoured.

that's a point hardly anyone is making...i would much rather have him than any qb in this draft and the browns have the picks to trade for him.

Hark is just trying to stock-pile picks for the Pats so the rich stay rich in the NFL. Don't take the bait. Matt Cassell looked great with the Pats too...then he went elsewhere. Live & Learn.

The Pats need to figure out something. Garoppolo's contract is up at the end of the year. They can franchise him for another year if they want - but then they're playing their backup QB more than their starter. Brady has shown no sign of slowing down and thanks to the @gteeitup diet intends to play until he's at least 45. Gotta get something for Jimmy before he just walks at the end of the contract.

bortles isn't getting an extension...tom coughlin is running it...watson is exactly the type of kid he would draft.
I know they won't extend Bortles, but they needed to realize that last year when the QB options were a bit better. This year's draft, and with the pick number they have, is not the time or place to pickup your franchise QB who isn't good enough to be a franchise QB.

but if they believe, they believe...last year they thought bortles was, different coach and gm now.

besides, didn't you just finish poasting about an org needing a franchise qb to win a sb?

If I'm the Jags, I honestly wouldn't give up on Bortles yet. The kids has shown flashes, but the tools they've given him have been very subpar. They grabbed a WR a few years ago from Okie State that had all of the talent, but didn't have what it takes between the ears. They overpaid last year for the TE from Denver that rode the Peyton Manning coattails. They don't have a good OL. And they desperately need a RB.

So...if I'm them, QB is the least of the problem.

Yes, you gotta get one, but only if you believe he's THE guy. Cleveland, for right or wrong, believes Mitch is THE guy, so it makes sense for them to go after him early.

If Jax believes Deshaun is THE guy, then good luck to them and I'll admit I'm wrong if he pans out.

I know right. Chicago, maybe not as bad as Cleveland but still...

for him, he's got nobody to throw to, nobody proven anyway...and an average at best o-line.

org wise, to give that up to move up one spot is what gets you fired...they aren't a trubisky away from a sb, much less a playoff spot.

Da bears fans are hating on Mitch pretty bad on their twitter feed. Guess he's not going to get a warm welcome at camp.

They'll look stupid in a year or two. I'm kinda surprised so many of y'all are doubting Trubisky. I think he would've succeeded at Cleveland, and he'll succeed at Chicago.

He checks all the boxes and will only improve with time.

A qb succeeding in Cleveland? Put the bottle down son. You've had enough.

the bears completely got me...i had allen there and mt at #12.

hearing cousins might get dealt to cleveland now...they need to forget that and grab howard if he's there.
Cousins wouldn't be the worst thing for Cleveland. He's solid. Not great, but solid. Won't hurt you.
