I'm distraught.
Our kids battled to overcome a 10 or deficit wounded 4 minutes despite all of Roys bullshit and then to lose like that on yet another occasion where we were simply out coached. You don't guard the inbounder and then let your worst defender guard their best player....Don't believe me, if you have the stomach for it, watch the last play again and look at how lost Hicks was. And all that after coming out of a timeout. He has the lowest basketball IQ I've seen for a kid of that talent level ever.

I said exactly that as the play unfolded.
1. There should have been BIG on the inbounds pass to disrupt it or maybe get a 5-second call or force a TO.
2. Never should he been allowed to run down the court somewhat unescorted.

They played a great game and won.
Our kids deserved so much better. I hate it for them. Our kids didn't play their best but I'm not mad that every analyst did and will call Roy out for so many bad decisions during the course of that game, particularly in the 2nd half.

Perhaps but that is why they play the game and play the game we did and we just lost.
Sure, it sucks but we are Tar Heel proud!!
I knew the only way we would win is if we had a 7-8 point lead with 2:00 left. I figured with that kind of cushion we'd end up winning by 3 or 4 pts.
Great season by a great group who did make it all the way to the final game. Again, hats off to Nova. I don't think they beat us more than 2 or 3 times out of 10 but they made plays to beat us tonight when it counted. Roy was a spectator during the biggest game of some of these kids lives and should be ashamed.

Guard the inbounder on final possession under 5 seconds always!
Never have your worst defender on the floor during the most important defensive possession of the year.
Never leave your All American center on the bench for 7 minutes of the 2nd half of a national title game.
Never let your team be on the wrong end of a 33-16 run in the 2nd half of a national title game without calling a timeout.
I know I'm missing a few other boneheaded moves like letting Meeks play big minutes in the 2nd half while missing layups and getting abused on the defensive end which led to a ton of open looks for them off ball screens. Really really really just a terrible showing by Roy.

Mike, if you think the things I'm saying aren't true then watch the game again. If you need additional confirmation feel free to listen to all the talking heads (only former players or coaches) going through all the things we did wrong down the stretch. It's the same list I just posted. Roy can't make shots for our team or play defense but as a coach his job is to put our kids in the best position for success and he failed miserably at that tonight. He said it himself....
One this is for sure, Roy did not coach out of character tonight. He was consistent. Love him or hate him, he coached this game just like it was another Wednesday night game against Clemson. Gotta respect that in him. He is who he is and remains that way.
I mean - bad officiating aside - you're just never going to win, shooting 20 percentage points lower than your opponent. I don't think our defense was horrible, but they scored at one point, on 9 of 10 possessions, while we went about 3-14 or something. At one point we had 3 FGs and 4 TOs in the second half.

Berry mist a lay up and jackson missing the two ft late really hurt. And Meeks oh my. The problem I had with Roy was Meeks played two much at the end with no good results and did not guard the in bound play with all the touch fouls maybe he was afraid of a foul.

I wish you would just shut up! No one is perfect.....Hindsight is 20-20. The Heels should have lost the game before that shot. Marcus misses that shot 99 times out of 100. Go bury yourself in a hole.
There should be a permanent tracker pinned at the top next season that shows Meeks missed layups. He easily missed 5-6 tonight that were just shameful misses for this level.

I hate to say it but he's right. No excuse for no one guarding the inbounder and it was like we've never seen someone front the post before. Our unreal shooting from 3 was the only reason the game was close
Yeah you know now is not the time for this. I know all about you as a poster having read your stuff for several years. Why don't you just call it a night ok?? Post your negative stuff tomorrow or go on OOTB, they have a whole cult of people that think cooler than everybody else .... those guys are probably in heaven right now ripping Roy and the Heels.

Not going to question Coach Williams. I just think Jay Wright had a better gameplan tonight by denying entry passes to the Carolina bigs and crashing the boards. It completely took UNC out of their game and forced more jump shooting. Fortunately, UNC guards were hitting the 3 otherwise it might have been worse.
Congrats on being in one of the best NC games that I have ever seen. Yeah, I'm a lifelong UK guy but that was one hell of a game. I thought you guys had it sewed up with the bad match ups down low but you just ran into a tough minded gutsy group of guys that didn't believe in quitting. It was a historic game. Again, congratulations on a great season and good luck going forward.
Yeah game plans like that work well when you are allowed to hold and wrestle the whole night and the other team is called for touch fouls all night.
Why is Pinson not in the game instead of Hicks with all the small Nova was going to have on the floor? Our bigs had a tough time the whole game guarding on the perimeter. I was surprised Pinson was not on the floor to guard Jenkins.
So easy to 2nd guess after the fact. If Theo had been in and their guard drove in for 2 everybody would be hollering "why wasn't Hicks in?". They only needed a 2.
I agree. Those young men busted their tails and I watched from the comfort of my home as they sweated. They are feeling down waay more than we are.
