OOTB's Political Thread . ..

Holy hell, dude. You definitely have a perspective that very few people ever have.
As luck would have it the top trauma surgeon in the state was visiting the hospital for a lecture or something and she stitched me up and did a great job all things considering. Then incredibly a week later my son cut his finger off with a skill saw (no guard on the saw, the dummy) they flew him and the finger to Durham and the same woman reattached his finger and it’s pretty much normal.

does it occur to you at all that all you needed to say was the last sentence? Instead, you first imply that 'knowing him' IS something that should cause him to lose support. You take any inappropriate opportunity to dump your TDS bucket. And yes, you are most definitely a TDS sufferer.
You're going to scold someone for writing too much? Of course you are.

That's a big pile of trauma! That reshaped your entire life.

Thought this was interesting. It's nothing new in terms of the psychology behind it, but I think it speaks volumes to the idea of our perceptions and what we perceive. Those that hate Trump will judge a situation with that mentality. Those that support him will also judge with that mentality. It helps explain why people can see the exact same thing so very differently. It even helps to explain things like why certain posters here tend to cry racism when none exists or why there actually is racism and someone just doesn't see it.

So what they did in this experiment was take participants and gave them facial "scars" through the use of makeup. They told them that they were then going to interact with others so that it could be determined if the existence of the scar was held against them in some aspect by the other persons. They showed the participants their "scars" using a mirror and then told the participants that they needed to "touch up" or moisturize the scars. In actuality, they completely removed the scars such that the participants merely believed they had scars on their face but were completely blemish free.

They then participated in social interactions. Incredibly, despite having no scars whatsoever, the participants reported back that they were treated differently, felt stigmatized, and even quoted statements made about them in reference to the scarring. This particular study was done in 1980 and called the Dartmouth Scar Experiment. But there are others that confirm the same result and that is this: what we see and experience can be largely impacted and influenced by what we expect to see or anticipate will happen. We should all try to remember this phenomenon when forming our opinions as we are all victims of our individual perspectives.

Here's one link discussing some of the different studies:

That's just how cults work.

Does that lady-doctor's husband allow her to vote? If so, who is he letting her vote for?

About ten years ago a kid speeding to school through the neighborhood crossed the center line and ran me off the road within sight of my house. I was in a jeep with no top. I rolled several times but didnt eject thanks to my seat belt. Unfortunately though I rolled over a pile of hurricane debris in someones yard and got the skin on my face and scalp peeled back and lost most of my ear. . So I have a nasty scar extending from top of my forehead to below my cheek. I can tell you with certainty that people treat me differently after the scar. I’m not whining about being a victim but it’s just I can tell people look at me differently. What gets old is going out to the bars and after people get lit they invariably walk up to me at random and want to comment on it.
Do you ever tell a bs story regarding the scar origin? If so let's hear it.

Selzer poll from Iowa is making all the poll aggregators freak out. With Dobbs happening and with lots of former R's being never-trumper, Trump's best hope is that young, white Rogan watchers ignore the divisiveness, the tariff-talk, the racist comedians, taxing & healthcare and how Trump seems as old and demented as Biden.

Selzer is pretty much an indicator that white women and white college-educated men are going to be leaning much more blue than in the past. And thatIndy's see him as an unpredictable nut job. And many seniors don't want radical disruption to norms.

I think the blue wall holds + PA. TBD on NC, AZ, NV, GA, but those will be close.

2020 was a referendum on Trump, 2022 a referendum on Dobbs + Jan6 + bad repub candidates, and none of that has changed. Inflation (minus jobs and stocks) is prob the sole repub advantage.

companion article says Oh Yeah?

"The author’s allegations have been aggressively rejected by the Trump campaign, which accused him of being a “disgraced writer who routinely fabricates lies in order to sell fiction books because he clearly has no morals or ethics.” A spokesperson for Trump said, “He waited until days before the election to make outlandish false smears all in an effort to engage in blatant election interference on behalf of Kamala Harris. He’s a failed journalist that is resorting to lying for attention.”

Wolff’s decision to speak about Epstein as his source is likely to raise eyebrows among the author’s critics. Only one other journalist has acknowledged using Epstein as a source, The New York Times’ James Stewart, who wrote about it immediately after the pervert’s death"

So that's not recordings of Epstein? Lol. You just can't even believe your lying ears now,

The United States had the strongest pandemic recovery in the entire world.

am I seeing this right? Our economy is hurt less under Trump than in the other countries in the very heart of the pandemic, in spite of the dems panicking and making the economy go hide under the bed, and recovery is well under way under Trump even during the pandemic. It merely continues that recovery as it (the pandemic) begins to fade under Biden, pretty much in proportion to how the other countries were affected.

THANK YOU, for finally dispelling the dishonesty with which this has previously been presented by lying Trump detractors. The strongest economy in the world had the strongest recovery, once the pandemic faded and it got over the dems policies of hiding under the bed. Duh.

I have no idea if it is or if it isn't. But I'm not stupid enough to assume it is or that he isn't lying himself. So the better question is, can you fvcking read?

Or don't you want to question the timing of this bullshit. It's about as credible as someone coming out of the woodwork after thirty years alleging sexual assault on the eve of a conservative SCOTUS appointee's hearings. Or any of the many other instances of odd timing that seem only to happen to conservatives.

Per your chart, they also had the second lowest drop, so are you going to praise the Donald for his excellence of guiding us so expertly through this terrible worldwide pandemic?

No, you'll try to tell us that he caused the crash in England, Germany, Japan, et al. as well. Haters gonna hate.

Every Trump voter this election supports this

sure, I would support or not support this advisement but the benefit/risk of adding fluoride to drinking water has been under scrutiny and many municipalities have stopped doing so. It seems likely that this was going to go away eventually anyway.

Fluoride treatment shouldn't take the place of good dental care, and toothpaste has fluoride in it which is applied of course directly to the teeth and gums. Systemically introducing substances that aren't naturally occurring and/or in unnatural quantities probably isn't the best idea to begin with.

Why don't you take a break from your shrill nagging? You'll live longer. On second thought, don't.

I understand that you are in a cult but seriously man.

“I’ve known Jeff for 15 years. Terrific guy,” Trump told New York magazine in 2002, before there were any public allegations of wrongdoing against multimillionaire money manager. “He’s a lot of fun to be with," Trump said then. "It is even said that he likes beautiful women as much as I do, and many of them are on the younger side."

A CONFESSION

my fellow conservatives, it is with deep shame and great embarrassment that I must confess to switching horses while voting Friday. I went over to the dark side. While waiting in line I started thinking about what my priorities should be. As I have often pointed out, I am a tree-hugger, The natural world and the planet that it is supported by is the most important thing to me other than my family and other loved ones.

Recent references to Trump planning to do away with 'green' policies started eating away at me and by the time I got to the booth, my mind was made up. Please try to understand and forgive me, but I voted for the democrat for commissioner of the dept. of agriculture.

Of course, if anyone actually watched SNL, it might matter. Or, more accurately, if anyone watched SNL that wasn't already falling for the mirage of the new Kamala watched, it might matter. Just proves the bias. Watch what they do, not what they say. NBC, or is it DBC?

LMAO. Dude, you don't have to try to go so far out of your way to be a joke, you just are one. This crap has been posted before and even @strummingram scoffed at the most recent rendition of it. If it meant anything by itself, I would post a picture of Bill Clinton with his arm around Epstein....and Clinton is like God to you idiots.

Knowing Epstein or any other scumbag is not a crime or even an indication of one. Only the TDS afflicted slanderers go nuts over every little hint of impropriety they can uncover while scouring the interwebs for dirt.

lol, this is funny, because as I was reading your previous post, I was forming in my mind almost exactly what you're saying with your words words above for my next post.

It is outrageous that it should happen (did it?), and it sickens that those who groan and gripe about Trump and supposed crookedness should allow this and applaud it. But I doubt anyone who watches SNL is going to be swayed by that idiot's appearance.

SNL is actually doing a lot better in the ratings this season. I wasn't expecting her cameo last night. She can at least poke fun at herself. Tim Kaine was an odd choice. But, that was a funny skit. Mulaney usually gets a lot of viewers, too.

Ignoring them is a cop out, to me. It's your choice if you don't want to have to be bothered with them.
You're missing the value of the Ignore button.

I ignore people for the reasons I mentioned. But when I view a thread, I go to the bottom and click the button to "show ignored."

If you are tempted to ask "then what's the point of ignoring them," it's really very straightforward. The ignore feature acts as a flag (it shows "You are ignoring content by this member" in a gray banner next to their name).

You may also be thinking "I don't need any daggum flag to tell me who the idiots and racists are" then great. More power to you. But I'm old, and don't spend all my days here, so I can use the help. Plus, on the Iowa board some posters change their handles as often as they change clothes or gender identities, so I definitely need the help over there.

Apparently, the FCC was watching SNL...

Wait. There's still an equal time rule? Who knew?

This is a clear problem area. What counts as press? What counts as advertising?

I've seen estimates that Musk has given Trump the equivalent of million$ in free advertising on X. Not counting the "interview".

How about the Rogan-Trump event?

How about Jon Stewart's routines?
