OOTB's Political Thread . ..

@Heels Noir, awhile back, I had commented in response to something you "randomly" came across in your YT perusing to not assume that such things were actually so random. This is an example.

Mark Zuckerberg is very supportive of this administration and antiorange. He owns Meta which owns FB, Instagram and Threads (which is their attempt to counter Twitter/X). Like all apps and software, they roll out updates that provide enhancements, bug fixes, security updates and so forth. In doing so, they also have the ability to change settings within your apps. Because they bury things in the very fine print of licensing agreements, people are unaware of these manipulations. We simply click Accept and move on. Everyone does this in their apps/software, some just make it more obvious to users than others. Just as their algorithms can manipulate what you "randomly" receive, your own settings can impact what your feed produces. In this instance, it's a default setting of not providing you with what they deem political and what they deem possible misinformation (alleged fact checking). Thus, your narrative of what you "randomly" come across will be full of administration approved messaging.

I'm with Desantis, social media needs to be banned for kids. It isn't "small government" but "think of the children!"

OK, if I may drag out just a bit more from you, are you saying he can now proceed to appeal without paying before he meets the ten day deadline?
Didn't really want to get into the back and forth between you gentlemen, but the distinction is this: He is allowed to appeal without the bond/cash being posted. The issue is what happens to collection efforts while that process takes place. If he post the cash/bond, all collections are stayed meaning they can't do anything to him. If he doesn't, they could start seizing his property, etc. As a practical matter, he will post it, so it's on hold.

I'm not sure what your sarcasm was intended to address. I was simply pointing out that social media which often purports to be neutral is far from it. If that is where one is getting their information and thinking that it isn't shaded but random, they are wrong.

As to Desantis and the new Florida law, this is one of those things that I believe parents should be addressing. Of course, that assumes that parents appreciate the issue to start with and will actually do something. On the other hand, you should love this since government intervention is always the answer. You must admit that social media is a problem for kids. Virtually every study that has looked at it comes back to a correlation between the many escalating problems and the timing of social media's introduction.

Thanks for 'splaining it to me, poop.

I'm fully aware of how algorithms dictate which videos appear on my YouTube screen based on previous viewing, so in that regard you're correct -- it wasn't entirely random. However, of all the videos I was "perusing" it was completely random when that particular video popped up. As in, say, one in a million.

Capiche?

What does it say when people are so fed up with the direction of the country that they will acknowledge Trump is a criminal and still would rather have him in charge than democrats? I'm being serious here.
It says they are cult members who were defeated three years ago and think they can restore a piece of themselves by winning the next time around, even if they have to sell their soul to the devil. Seriously.

Hardcore court at it again, @blazers

What does that case have to do with conservative vs liberal? The questions:

1. Do statements conveying observed sensory impressions in factual, descriptive terms constitute protected “opinion” under the First Amendment to the Constitution of the United States?

2. Did the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit effectively eliminate the distinction between fact and opinion articulated in Milkovich v. Lorain Journal Company, 497 U.S. 1 (1990)?

This was a MAGA kid trying to get back at the "woke media." Just look at @bluetoe and @Archer2 reply and you'll see why this would be a conservative cause. You're still grumpy from having to hold all these Ls.

This is what I was trying to explain to him. I guess I wasn't doing a very good job.

Media corporations, including social media, are generally going to do what makes money (i say generally since Twitter seems to be the opposite, it has been hemorhaging value since Elon took over).

I've never said more gov is a good thing, i'd be all for shrinking defense budget, getting government out of the business of regulating medical decisions, etc.
You must admit that social media is a problem for kids. Virtually every study that has looked at it comes back to a correlation between the many escalating problems and the timing of social media's introduction.
Absolutely social media is a new type of problem that needs to be solved. I'd be fine with big gov here regulating social media & kids/teens.

Don't look now but Trump's latest grift is hocking the Holy Bible to raise funds for his criminal defense campaign. "Let’s Make America Pray Again" is the sales pitch.

I pray every single day that a meteor or a piano or something falls from the sky and lands on him and I would gladly pay $59.99 to see it happen.

He knows how to sell shit... I'll give him that much. He can grift better than any human being in the history of the species. Those Chinese facilities won't be able to meet the demand for those Bibles.

LOL, the actual questions posed aren't partisan at all, but cuz libsofTikTok and archer2 hyped it, then it is suddenly worthy of SCOTUS?

Normally I would say leave it up to the parents, but this is one of those things that I'm ok with government interference. I would put it in the same category as porn, driving, smoking and drinking. All things we don't allow kids to do and I think everyone here is ok with that. These social media companies admit that it's bad for kids by having their own restrictions. They should just let this one go.

That's really what you believe? 80 million people? Lol. Ok.

regarding social media and our youth, read the book "iGen" ... you'll be blown away.

we have a 16yo and two 13yo ... none of them will have a smart phone or social media accounts before they leave the house. they are fully functional, happy and mature kids.

Correction: 74 million losers.
Those are not all cult members. His cult is immovable, for sure...and, they're a textbook example of a cult. But, the vast majority of the people who voted for Trump are not those cult members. There's a serious disconnect between the federal government and a massive amount of the American public when they're even open to the idea of choosing a known criminal, in the middle of court proceedings, over an incumbent president.

Correction: 74 million. (It was Joe Biden who netted 80 million votes -- 81, actually -- in the last election. You're getting your candidates confused.)

Lol. Ok. My mistake. For now. I have a feeling we'll see over 80 million for Trump this time around. Which would mean by your logic that an additional 6 million people just up and joined a cult. Is that what you'll argue? Still lol.

What is your response to @strummingram that apparently disagrees with you? He does not believe that all 74 million are in a cult. Any comment here?

They are still losers inasmuch that a vote for Trump is a vote for a losing cause.

That's not what I asked nor what Strum spoke to. You alleged that roughly 75 million people are in a cult (and that number seems to be growing). Strum doesn't agree. Do you think he's wrong? Or did you misspeak in calling 75 million Americans cult members?

It's hilarious that the United States is in this situation because a contract agreement could not be reached on a reality TV talent show. Thanks NBC!

Trump says that Nicole Shanahan, RFK r's VP running mate, is a liberal communist. That's a helluva trick to pull off! Being a millionaire, lawyer, ex-wife of a Google co-founder, AND a communist! That's a woman who needs to be back in the kitchen!

I guess Trump is too busy reading the Bible that he hasn't gotten around to reading Das Kapital, The Communist Manifesto, and other works by Engels and Marx. It's a busy schedule with the depositions and court appearances, too. I'll cut him some slack. Communism in America is like Porn in Church.

Actually, the point is gamesmanship over you is so simple and easy that it happens regularly and there's nothing you can do to stop it. X^D
lol, and then you wake up and the harsh reality hits you right between the eyes. You're just a miserable, insecure dipshit trying to build some self-esteem by picking the lowest-hanging fruit. You'll never catch up, it just isn't in your DNA.

I don't know about "miserable, insecure dipshit" or "trying to build some self-esteem," but there's no doubt you are definitely some low-hanging fruit.

Let's just say strum and I apparently disagree on what makes up a cult member. For me, if someone is even sipping the Kool-Aid they are as cultish as Squeaky Fromme.

Hmmm, doubling down. Interesting strategy. Let's see if it works out.

Truth be told, I don't give a f*ck what you call it. No one takes you seriously anyway. But what I do give a f*ck about is what kind of cult representation comes out in November. Let's say that as it stands right now, I'm feeling pretty, pretty good.

Oooh, let's talk a little about RFK and his candidacy. How's everybody feeling about this? Does RFK hurt Biden because some moderate dems have seen the trainwreck the current admin is and wants better? Or do some casual Trump cultists gravitate towards RFK and his somewhat anti-establishment platform?

you must have missed this further reply to @prlyles, as he apparently did as well. But thanks for trying to help anyway. As my link referred to below contradicts your info, a link from you would have been helpful. No matter though.

I know all that stuff. The only part I was interested in was where you said I varied from what poop explained, which is when he could file his appeal; and what you say is not what I quoted from the CBS news article as far as I can tell..

It doesn't matter though, he has plenty of time even if he can't file until after the ten days.

right. If I make a typo, you're all over it. Otherwise I own your dumb ass. If there was a market for dumbasses, I'd sell you.

I don't know how anyone is "feeling." I don't really care. I just think it's funny that DJT is selling the bullshit that COMMUNISM is alive and well in the USA. Fear sells. Between the border and the gays and the trans people... it's Defcon 1. The rich get richer and get more cover for their wealth. If that ain't communism, I dunno what is!

RFK Jr. is educated by the same institutions as Trump and Biden. You get a bowl of shit, no matter which bowl you choose. I realize it's been especially difficult for you these last 4 years. You deserve the orange shit. You earned it.

jmo but I think he won’t do as good as he’s polling. Once people have to actually pull the lever they’ll pick trump or biden. But I do think whatever votes he gets will come from the biden side. Overall I think dem representation will be way down from last election like it was when Hillary ran. The dem mods and independents in general I think are apathetic. Last time 13 million registered voters didn’t vote. This time I bet it’s close to 20 million.

What's interesting to me is how cheap the cult was bought. If you go back to the early 20th century, after WWI... the people in Europe and Asia who caved to fascism were fvcking starving to death. I mean, they were STARVING TO DEATH! They didn't have money for food, let alone money for red hats and Trump/Maga swag*. You didn't have food even if you had money for it! So, their identities were stripped to the bare wood. They had nothing to lose.

Americans, in this post-Tea Party shit-show, are mostly pissed because their old trope traditions are finally falling out of favor. People not kneeling for the national anthem... shit like that. It didn't take a lot of suffering to galvanize the utter stupidity to reign supreme.

*the people who sell that 45 merch must be loving Cult 45. If you started selling Trump shit in 2015? you'd be a millionaire if you played it right

Selling bibles the week before Easter to cover legal fees for a case on the hush money you paid to a porn star during your election campaign. These are amazing times.

There's nothing like a good history lesson to put things into their proper perspective.

"Cult 45." Classic! 🤣
