OOTB's Political Thread . ..

It's not that Special Counsel can't be used or aren't valid, it's that they must be properly authorized. The argument is that in Jack Smith's case, he wasn't.
Both were done the same way. If Trump claims his was invalid, that automatically means Hunter's was as well.

Both were done the same way. If Trump claims his was invalid, that automatically means Hunter's was as well.
But they weren't. Whether it would make a difference in the eyes of the Supremes is an entirely different question. David Weiss was a sitting United States Attorney who had been confirmed by the Senate and was serving in that role when Garland appointed him to serve in a new capacity - he was essentially retasked. Thus, he was already working for the DOJ and had been confirmed by the Senate.

Jack Smith, on the other hand, was a former US Attorney who had resigned and was no longer serving in any capacity under Garland's authority. In fact, when Garland appointed him, Smith had for several years been serving as chief prosecutor for the Kosovo Specialist Chambers in The Hague, investigating war crimes in the Kosovo War. He resigned from that position to accept that of Special Prosecutor back in the US.

So, they are far different and the argument is that Smith would need to again be confirmed to serve in a role with the DOJ, whether as a special prosecutor or any other. Again, whether the SCt. will agree with that pitch or whether it is a distinction without one remains to be seen. But, they were not done the same way.

The entire discussion though is likely moot due to yesterday's events. Both will likely be resolved through other actions. The real question is what Judge Merchan does over the next couple of weeks.

Sure, I can do that for you. Most independents, who make up the largest percentage of the voters, aren't sheep who vote straight ticket. They actually vote for the best candidates, which could come from either party.
And these judicious non-sheep feel Trump is somehow different from people like Mark Robinson and Morrow? If so, why? And what are the policies of Dan Bishop which are so bad he loses while Trump wins? thanks

I'm really disappointed in the amount of chatter and posting this morning. Thought they'd be more.

Guess the normally prolific posters are way too busy trying to get appointments with their therapist/counselor/psychologist/social worker. Either that, or they're booking flights to and contacting real estate agents in other countries.

This might be a really good time to buy stock in big pharm makers of depressant medications. Their 4thQ sales are gonna be bangers.
There's no drama. No kraken. No laptop's, no butter emails. Might be a little boring around here til he takes office and we see how far Proj 25 goes.

"It's the inflation stupid". Many states approved pro-choice referendums, so I assume people were voting for the tariffs since not much is going to happen regarding immigration, and i doubt many people care much about what's happening in Ukraine.

Last time it was the COVID pandemic that did Trump in. I wonder what will bring him down this time? Cholera outbreak? The bubonic plague?

I think we are still waiting for the congratulatory phone call from KH. So much for all the reverence for tradition.

In all serious, this little ditty really hits the nail on the head.

I'm sure he's strutting around this morning like a peacock, but he's no smarter or dumber today than he was yesterday. In fact, if we're all aboard a ship crossing the Atlantic and @gunslingerdick is the captain, @bluetoe is the navigator, and @pooponduke is at the helm (with @nctransplant onboard as ballast because that's all he's good for), and suddenly we hit rough seas, who isn't putting on a life jacket?

I know I am and I'm also bending over and kissing my ass goodbye.
Meh. Cool fantasy, but the popular opinion says he is smarter than you and correctly guaged the country's pulse while you continued to be one big meme.

"get the economy working again for regular working class americans"
"fix immigration"
"get crime under control"
... later mentions inflation.

He is right.

But aside for inflation/prices, the economy is humming. And I don't think Trump can do much about inflation/prices. Polled Americans admitted their own financial state was okay but that the overall economy was bad... think about that for a minute too.

What has Trump said he said he'll do, other than tariffs (which will be burden)? What would he have done to prevent inflation?

Economically, i think anyone could've beaten the incumbent since the masses don't understand inflation and economics. The immigration and crime rhetoric obviously helps with the base. I don't see much LONGTERM changing regarding immigration, America needs it.

you win this board if not the internet by presenting two of the best, outstandingly appropriate tweets (or X's, or whatever they are) possible, Thank you.

This guy in particular could not have summed it up better. So gratifying.

Well, the idea of never underestimating the stupidity of the masses is valid. Truth be told, but for that phenomenon, the incumbent would be ending his second term. Covid would have nailed anyone. The interesting aspect to me is that all they did was delay Trump's second term and instead of having to fight against a really weak incumbent in Pence as the automatic frontrunner, the future will be everyone running against JD. And if things go at all well, he will be formidable.

Who would care? She lost any value to R's when she sold out and the D's have no use for her now that she won't be sitting beside KH to nod.

She is a textbook example of being careful what political road you drive down. It's a good thing she's gotten rich off of foreign wars.
You mean M's for maga instead of R's? R used to mean conservative.

There is nothing conservative (free market?) about tariffs.
Letting Ukraine fall to Russia isn't conservative.
Trying to create a massive deportation machine is as "big guvment" as it gets.
Conservatives claim to be tough on crime, but look the other way when it comes to pressuring states to find votes.

that old joke. Two guys hiking through the woods are accosted by a bear, and one immediately starts changing into some running shoes. The other says 'hurry up let's go, you can't outrun a bear with those'. Running shoe guy says, 'I don't have to outrun the bear, I just have to outrun you'.

So @gunslingerdick slinger doesn't have to be any smarter than he was yesterday, he just has to have been smarter than you. And he was, or else you would have been bending over and kissing your ass goodbye yesterday.

Now just sit back and relax, enjoy the cruise. We're going to take good care of you and everybody else who doesn't deserve to have it so good. Our first port of call is Haiti, we have some cargo to return there....If I can find it. Har har.

true dat. Thankfully, the masses got a little smarter. Having your previous poor choices staring you in the face every day will tend to do that.

If things go at all well. Vance will be unbeatable. He's impressive.

It would appear that way based on outcome.

If so, why?
You'd have to ask them. The voter rolls are available on line. You can start with anyone you want to.

And what are the policies of Dan Bishop which are so bad he loses while Trump wins?
See above.

You're welcome.

No, no. You're taking my comment to mean I care. I don't. I'm simply highlighting that BLM has become annoyed and looks to be turning their back on the Dems. It's couples with all the other demographics that were once a safe bloc for the Dems waking up to the fact the Dems don't care about them. All the money in the world that kamala raised from miserable single white cat women won't save her. Trump is going to win by a lot.
