As much as the UVA loss stings, it really shouldn't feel like anything new. Since Mack left and went to Texas, we've endured at least 1 awful loss every season since. Here's a rundown:
:
'99: GT. ------- Torbush
'00: Furman
'01: @Maryland (10-2)---- Bunting
'02: Miami(OH)
'03: Duke (or pick any of the 10 losses)
'04: Louisville 0-34
'05: Wisconsin 5-14
'06: UVA 0-23
'07: ECU. ----- Butch
'08: UVA (losing record)
'09: UVA (3-9 record)
'10: GT (losing record)
'11: NCSU score 0-13. ---- Withers
'12: GT score 50-68. ---- Fedora
'13: ECU. score 31-55
'14: ECU score 41-70
'15: South Carolina (3-9)
'16: Duke (4-8)
'17: GT score 7-33 (5-6)
'18: ECU score 19-41 (3-9)
'19: App State (Sunbelt) ----- Mack 2.0
'20: FSU (3-6)
'21: GT (3-9)
'22: GT (5-7)
'23: UVA

2001, 2011, and 2019 really didn't feature any losses to bad teams. 2001 Maryland went 10-2 and the other 4 losses were to ranked teams. 2011's loss to NCSU was miserable to watch, but NCSU wasn't a bad team, going 8-5. The other losses that year were to ranked teams. In 2019, App State was a Sunbelt team that went 13-1 and beat South Carolina. While it was at home, the loss was really due to a Scoop-6 play. The other 22 of those last 25 seasons have had at least one shining moment ... of brutality.

All too often the GT game was like stepping into a pain cave. I fear for Saturday.
