Path of Totality

The schools in the county I'm in aren't letting the kids go outside for fear of being sued.
Seriously? That's crazy. Obviously you know I'm only one county over, but they are doing some kind of event for the eclipse. I'm not sure exactly what it is, but they are going to let them outside.

Well I misspoke slightly. It's odd around here because you have Cobb County Schools, which encompasses all the schools in Cobb. But then for whatever reason, there's a different section called Marietta City Schools which just governs Marietta H.S., Marietta M.S., and then some elementary school. I believe it was the superintendent of Marietta City Schools that I saw in the paper saying the kids aren't going outside.

But yes, it's crazy and dumb. The sue culture strikes again!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Y'all know I love the sue culture.

You're in an area that will witness a full solar eclipse! The moon will be in the sun's path starting at 11:57am and continue for 2hours 55minutes. The total eclipse will start at 1:25pm and continue for 2minutes 16.8 seconds.

My brother and his family are having a huge get together with all sorts of games and stuff. They have some family on his wife's side really into it. I think we are going but our county has around 190,000 people and they are expecting 200 to 300, 000 more for that day, which seems kind of absurd to me. They are saying we may lose power (no idea why) and run out of gas. The basic alarmist nonsense. My wife is kind of apprehensive about it all. So I'm going to get out early and see how crazy it is before we decide to go. I'm a big fan of apocalyptic stuff so think it is going to great personally.

One of the local courses is having an eclipse scramble during it and I was asked to play but couldn't get that to fly, haha.

We have glasses for them but the parents have to sign a waiver.

Several opthalmologists have poasted messages on social media warning about the dangers of those glasses. The glasses are supposedly made to fit adults, not kids and therefore are false protection for kids viewing the eclipse.

Monday is my kids' first day back at school and they always have early dismissal on the first day so my kids won't be at school when it happens. I'll see to it that they watch on TV instead of trying to view it outside. I'm usually one to scoff at the coddling we do with today's kids but this I'm buying. Once eyesight is damaged in this way, its irreparable. I won't take that chance with my kids.

I got a front-row, dead-center address...

100%

I'm going to two eclipse functions. Clemson is having quite a few to choose from.

I am firmly in the "I really don't give a damn" camp.

I'm sure staff will all want to go outside or congregate at someone's window until I throw a temper tantrum. oh boy.
There's not many things on this earth scarier than an angry Italian-descent male.

Not being sarcastic.

you ain't kidding...my full-blooded Italian father was built like a tree stump and could lift me off the ground by the front of my shirt with one arm when I was 18. I've got a bit of his temper but lack his girth...so I mostly just cuss and fume...but man, my dad would just go off! and much faster than I woulda thought.

91% here.

My daughters' daycare is keeping them inside, and I'm ok with that. While it would be kind of cool for my 4-year-old to see, it's not like she'd really comprehend what's happening and the rarity of it. And it would only take one kid yanking their "glasses" off to get a better look to make it a really bad day for everybody.

For older kids I can see signing a waiver and stressing the importance of not looking without eye protection.

I'll be popping outside periodically to check it out with my dorky cardboard glasses. Hope it doesn't rain and ruin the fun.

Hey, @BillyL tell us youngsters about the last eclipse we had that was this close to total? People was mighty superstitious back then

I'm not going to lie, it was a heck of a lot cooler than I thought it would be. It was pretty great.
