PJ Washington OV

Love to have him but still think he ends up elsewhere. Hope I'm wrong. It is hard to be disappointed with the OV though.

It was an excellent visit. It's up to the kid figure out where he wants to go now. I applaud Roy for his efforts here, what more can he do than 10 out of 10? I just want someone big to commit to us.

We have done the best we could as usual. We all want this young man to make the logical choice...in OUR minds. But hey who knows what is going thru this fellow's mind?? Would love to have him in Carolina Blue!!

Yeah Key, that is the thing when it comes to what a 18yr old kid will do. I LOVE where we are with PJ, been very vocal about that for the last what, month? But ya can never really know what small thing upsets the apple cart and sways a kid last minute. When you have multiple great choices it is amazing how a small thing can tilt the balance one way or the other. So we gonna have to wait and see and I suspect we could be waiting till the spring and as I have said prior, a spring announcement would make me less than excited that he comes to us, early IMO he is ours but if he waits till spring it isn't us IMO. Very little he can learn about us that waiting till the spring would show him unless he has decided he wants to be a 3 and not a 4 in college.

Just my opinion, but I'd say UK and UNC are out front right now. Who knows where he ends up but I agree with DSouth that an earlier decision is more favorable to us because he already knows what our lineup will look like. If he waits till spring, he is likely looking at who leaves early at UK.

November is the earliest we can wait for a PJ decision. His dad specifically said he wont let his son make a decision without taking all 4 scheduled official visits. Sounds like PJ had a great time on his OV.

Wait now, didn't Evan Daniels say just last week that the kid loves Ky so much that he may not visit Texas or Aziona? LOL Pretty clear that Evan Daniels would be better off listening to the kid's dad than listening to Ky homers!

It's also sounding like there won't be a 5th OV. He may not sign til Spring but the decision could come much earlier.

...or to hear himself talk?

I would feel very good if he doesn't visit Arizona. Something about the magic they have with some of these kids. They sell Arizona well. If he goes to AZ I don't like our chances much.

I wonder if we should be worried about Texas at all.

I've been on the Kentucky site (Rupp Rafters) most of them seem to think Washington is a slam dunk deal to them at this point. Can only hope they're wrong.

To be fair everyone is a slam dunk deal to UK per Rupp Rafters... until they go somewhere else. Take what you hear over there with a serious grain of salt.

At this point it seems ky and dook are slam dunks for whomever they want. Hard to feel good about going up against either of them for anyone right now.

Bingo. And hey, their full frontal bandwagon assault strategy works quite often.

As for PJ, he may end up there, but I can assure you he's NOT a slam-dunk to uk. I'm not ready to make any calls just yet --- I still wanna hear a bit more --- but the idea we're playing catch-up to uk with PJ is just wrong. If anything it may be the opposite. At worst we're neck and neck.

Now, to be clear, I do not underestimate Calipari's schtick. It will be a battle... and don't forget the other contenders in Austin and Tucson.

What I DO know is that Roy has positioned himself very, very well here. Now its a matter of styles and what PJ and family decide. I'll say right now though that if he does go elsewhere abd someone pops up on here saying "oh, he was going there all along" that will be horsesh**.

This one sounds like a November decision from most of the chatter.

I am expecting a nov decision myself and I think the majority of this board knows how I think it will turn out! How many pages have I written now explaining why I think it ends up as it does and it being a GREAT day to be a Tar Heel!

I just want to take a bit of caution because in the end we are dealing with 18yr olds and anyone that tells you they know what a 18yr old if absolutely going to do is lieing to you. I do not believe Texas or Ky are really the factors, Arizona could be a problem.

Thing with PJ is this, he is more concerned with becoming a better player than he is with being one & done. Don't get me wrong, I think he does think he can and likely will be one & done but becoming a better player is more what he is looking for. Ky tends to get those players that want more of a guarantee of being one & done and that really is not what is most important to PJ. He wants to feel good about the players he will play with, he wants to be comfortable with his coaches but it is important for him that he goes to a program that will develop him as a player. He and his family know if he is good enough to be one & done he can be that no matter what school he picks he wants to be a better player and knows he needs great coaching to bring that out in his game.

So @gary-7 do u see this as a ky/unc battle?
That's a great question. The wild card is TX. Shaka got a huge advantage coaching him in that late-summer tourney and they were the ones I was most worried about, given PJ's relationship there and Texas ties, but that has gone relatively quiet so I'm not sure what's up there. He still has that visit coming. Meanwhile uk has put on their usual hype machine bum's-rush trying to convince the world (and the recruit by bandwagon effect) that he's coming there. As for AZ, as worrisome as Miller is, let's just say I'll be very unpleasantly surprised if the Washingtons fall for that little skeezer's pitch.

Roy told the Washingtons months ago up front that PJ is Roy's #1 priority, and has proven it by personally attending more of PJ's games and practices than any other coach. I've felt like we've led for PJ since Peach Jam, with Shaka being our biggest competition, and Calipari and the KY noise machine pulling out all stops (yikes!) to get back in it. They're doing their best to make it sound like he has --- and I'm sure getting PJ back for their midnight madness event boosts their confidence. So yes, at least before I filter out the noise, it seems to be a UNC-ky battle. A month ago I said UNC-TX ... and the thing is, I'm not so sure TX still ain't something to worry about. Bottom line is we are up against some very formidable recruiting opponents.

From everything I've heard and read (which is just what's out there publicly and from our mods), I get the feeling it's still genuinely a 3 horse race. I think we were behind before the visit but apparently we hit it out of the park this weekend. My opinion says we're an even 33% shot with UK and UT. I really think the kid is undecided.

And that exact thing happens frequently. Hindsight is always 20-20.

If you care about the crystal ball, I just noticed that some picks are starting to come in for UK. Thought that was interesting considering he just left UNC.

If it comes down to UNC vs UK, and don't overlook TX, The Lodge is a heck of a deal breaker not to mention the other UK $tuff.

So let me get this right. You guys have concerns about losing a recruit, with a level head and a father that's a basketball coach, to a TX team that got an at-large bid to the NCAA last year .. that lost a first round game to Northern Iowa .. and a 2016 KY team that lost in the second round to an Indiana team we dropped a 100 on and waxed in the 2015 NCAA Tourney .. against the 2015 runner-ups with the returners and an incoming class that includes Jalek Felton and possibly a returning Joel Berry. A school that lives by the inside out game? A school that will have tons of PT available ??

Just checking ....... let me roll up one of my medically prescribed blunts so I can visit your world
