Platek To UNC

This is what is important......can hear the announcers now: "Felton and/or Woods drive the lane and a kick back to Platek for the 3...BOOM!"

Platek is important to Heels because we "need" outside shooting. Outside shooting is not a problem for Duke. We have a 4-year player that can shoot. Very critical for the Heels...

I used to always complain to my dad whenever we would play someone like Davidson and they'd have some unathletic white long ball assassin about why couldn't UNC ever get someone like that. Hopefully this guy is a little more than that, but even assuming that's his ceiling, I'm very curious to see how that kind of game fits in at the level Roy will expect from him in ACC play. Obviously, Roy believes in the kid, so I'll be pulling for him to exceed expectations. Either way, seems like he will be a great Tar Heel and I have no doubt he'll be a great teammate.

Not a fan of the stereotyping but I know of a poster (usually on game threads) who's yearned for Roy to find that sort of a player.
Haven't seen enough of Platek to comment on his athleticism, but from the vids I've seen he can sure light it up.
No matter, Roy wants him, he wants to be a Heel and that's all that matters.

Now, where's Shun with a couple of hundred exclamation points....

Hi Ozheelfan. I love you to through the grace of GOD.

!!!!!!!!!!!! GO PLATEK !!!!!!!!!!!!

!!!!!!!!!!!! GO TAR HEELS !!!!!!!!!!!!

Guy has some interesting numbers, has made 3 pt shots with regularity in the high 40% range and his off nights are still 39%...seems to need space for his shot but I sure hope the poster that spoke of Felton/Woods driving and dishing to the open spot at the angle rings up with regularity for four years!
Welcome Andrew, you are part of the CAROLINA family now. :D

You know what I mean, though. Maybe I just don't know enough about Platek yet, but I doubt he's going to be averaging 7 rebounds a game as a guard, blowing past defenders with a lightning quick first step, or jumping out of the gym. Obviously, even guys like Kendall Marshall or Bobby Frasor were not "unathletic," but when compared to someone like Dexter Strickland or Grayson Allen (for a good current anti-stereotype example), it's obviously a different type of athlete. I just have a hard time believing that if he's this good of a shooter, the reason he's been rated outside of the top 200 (until now, at least) isn't because he's not an elite/explosive athlete. Anyways, none of this is a complaint. I'm excited to see what Roy does with the kid and I hope he breaks every one of Marcus Paige's 3 point records.

Actually Bobby was quite athletic --- not as explosive as Strickland or Allen --- but very smoothly athletic. In fact I liken Platek to Bobby with a more consistent outside stroke.

I'm not saying you're wrong because I don't know enough about the kid to really have an opinion. But if I recall correctly, Bobby was ranked in the 30s or 40s. Platek is ranked between 175 and 200. That's a giant leap. So if he's a better shooter than Bobby and he's as athletic as Bobby, then why on God's green earth is he ranked so low? Not ever class is created the same. I get that. But I think it's logical to say that a guy ranked around 200 in any class is not the same talent as a guy ranked in the 40s of any class. And sure, he'll probably rise in the rankings. But even if he were to be ranked at 100 or higher, the question remains.

I'm glad we got a commitment. But IMO, this kind of kid should round out a recruiting class. Not be a priority. If he can turn into Wes Miller 2.0, I'll be content.

Welcome to the Family, Mr. Platek!

Roy picks up a very nice piece and addresses a clear need.

Go get 'em Roy!

Agreed 'slinger, he is no savior but he is a complimentary piece. A four year kid that can shoot well over 40% from distance "rounds out" things for me. Wouldn't he be the kid at Davidson that would light us up? Just sayin'... ;)
