Drake trashed Hubert for not developing his game more...which was a cheap shot imo....but my response is who DOES do any of that nowadays??? Heck these kids regardless of where they are, are all looking to get to the league a s a p... or now withe portal and nil..get paid bigger bucks at another school. Powell had 6 months here...yet he wants HD to perform some magic. I am not picking on Drake, I like him and really wanted him back. But whether its him, Jackson, whomever, the days of watching a freshman develop over 2 to 4 years are gone. RJ may be the last of his kind.

Think this is only an HD issue?? Think again. Many on this board and in college ball generally, would throw Izzo out there as an example of a coach who is a developer of talent. In fact I watched a presser 2 months ago, during the Ncaa with Izzo..stating how much he wants players Who want to stay at MSU and learn and grow as players....then a month ago his starting point guard..Holloman...leaves after 3 years and is going to moou. Development????? loyalty ??? Hahaha. It is all transactional now in college and it sucks. College ball now is NBA lite...and after 50+ years as a fan..l am coming to dislike it more and more. HOPEFULLY SANITY may return sometime soon...although I am not holding my breath.

Seth and RJ are both good examples of it happening at UNC.

I agree 100% that the current game is not set up for peeps to gradually develop into well-rounded pros! Instant gratification + insane amounts of money have definitely changed the game and that is why all of the Old-school coaches are bailing!

May I disagree with one of the points currently circulating in the lazy talking head circuits on TV + Internets:
Drake didn't actually trash UNC IMO. He simply said he didn't get the chance to showcase his entire arsenal. (Unless there is something more out there I have missed) A few lazy clickbait artists turned this into headlines/soundbites but to me this is just him saying there is more I could do for your team! He is essentially on an extended job interview so it might not be prudent to say, "There is nothing more to my game than you've already seen; I can't possibly develop any more!" + Any good team player will sublimate parts of his game to help the team be more successful and that is across the breadth of basketball history! Until someone shows me more than this one sentence, I reject the premise that Drake was in any way disloyal to the Family!

I didn’t see Drake’s comments. Probably better I don’t because I really like that young man. And maybe also because I know he’s right. Whether it’s happening everywhere or not, I can’t say. But I can say it’s definitely not happening under Hubert.

You definitely can say that nobody fully develops a player in 1 year! You also can say that UNC has developed players under Hubs. Because they both are obvious. Drake did not trash UNC at all and what he said was not even critical of UNC. It was a statement to a potential employer that he had more tools in his arsenal not a statement saying he was held back by UNC! BTW, What did Ratty teach Zion??? Do you think Colonel Flagg will not need to learn things to complete his game?

What possible benefit to UNC can it be to constantly trash our coaching staff while we are trying to recruit??? Peeps' opinions are well known but since he is still our coach, maybe consider trying to help the PROGRAM by not contributing to the incessant noise by critics!

I want to see a good product on the court so I want them to get players. If we get the players and aren't successful then I don't need to worry about what UNC will do, this is also obvious!

4 Years in, already on the hotseat, and we still have to ignore our eyes and ears and treat this coaching staff with kid gloves???...Some on this board will never cease to amaze me with the persistent attempts to silence unflattering criticism because of how much they don't want to hear the truth. This ridiculous mindset is exactly why we ended up with this coaching staff in the first place.

If a potential player is using fan comments as a catalyst for commitment, they should probably keep it moving. We need players who are here to ball, not look at comments on a soon-to-be dead website (thanks On3).

In today’s game it is hard to develop players, however certain things seem easily achievable. Being able to hedge on defense or learning how to make an entry pass into post. On the other hand mismanagement of talent could also be looked at as a lack of player development!
